The walls have vintage chalkboards and large windows. The tall doors are dramatic and astounds you as you enter. This place is GORGEOUS!! We couldn't have picked a better place for our Big Day. The wedding coordinator of The Board of Trade , Leah, was amazing from the beginning of the planning stage to the end of our wedding night! Though renovated in 1993, the BoT maintains a vintage shabby aesthetic that seems similar to that which drives designers at Anthropologie. Otherwise, architectural and interior design features are on the spartan side - the posh Roosevelt Hotel this is not. Courtyard fountain offers a pretty location for photos. Light rain reduced its use, but improved the shine of candlelight. High marks for exclusive food service vendor Pigeon Caterers. Though I have no idea how much they charge for the buffet spread, memorable dishes included shrimp and grits, gouda mashed potatoes, and crawfish etouffe. Bananas Foster were a cool effect, but ended up too soupy for excellence. Reasonable bar selection of mid-level wines and spirits with simple mixed drinks only (no sazaracs, French 75s, or gin fizzes at this wedding) - again, don't know what our friends sprung for. Unique is that leftovers were packaged for the wedding party to bring home. Second line up Poydras was pretty special. Must do.

I planned a weekend trip for January to visit, it was the first stop on my list and I immediately fell in love. Shoutout to Maxwell who took care of me during my site visit and Mr. Bobby the owner who also made sure I had everything I needed to make the most informed decision. If you are still trying to decide to go with Southern Oaks or another venue, book Southern Oaks. I promise you won't be disappointed. 2 months later and my guest are still raving about our wedding being so Amazing. We owe it all to the Southern Oaks staff, all we did was show up and let them work their magic. Some highlights from our big day were the old fashion Rolls Royce that we arrived in, the attention provided to us, our wedding party and parents ( our parents are still talking about how well they looked after me during the reception), the DJ was awesome, the food was delicious and endless and our fireworks exit at the end of the night. I asked the manager why wasn't I informed they were the food was so called thrown out, she said she asked my daughter who was already intoxicated when she got to her party did she want the food and she said no. Of course she didn't: 1. She was drunk. 2. She didn't have any place to bring all the left overs because we were from out of town and staying at a hotel and 3. She did not pay a dime for any of it.... The contract was with her Mom. So yes, I give this place 2 stars for the size and beauty, but if you go with this venue just make sure before they pack of your food and cake, they leave it out front where you can see it and not bring everything to the back for staff to carry out the back door...

Only thanks to good friends &…read morefamily was I able to enjoy the last part of my reception because the majority of the reception I felt like a guest of dishonor rather than a guest of honor. I waited to write my review until after I discussed with Taravella Manor. All of the issues I addressed below were of course disputed by the general manager, Darius, who acted as though everything went off without a hitch. As a result, I have decided to write a review in hopes that others will not make the mistake I did & book their wedding at this venue. Taravella Manor boosts that they will walk you through step by step, "you just show up & we will do the rest." What a joke. It was so disorganized. My hostess would stop by tell us something & then disappear! We had no attendant for myself, my groom, his parents or my mom. He & I had to go to the bar to get our own drinks all night long. There also was no reserved table for the bride & groom or our bridal party. When asked by the mother of the groom, the staff advised there were no reserved signs in the establishment. I brought a pen for people to sign my guest book & no one could find it. The general manager insisted I didn't give it to him, which just infuriated me further. During my bridal party dance, the music stopped & we were offered no explanation as we stood on the dance floor for several minutes looking around. The DJ was terrible. He played "Strokin" for the first song of my money dance & was asked 4 times before he changed it. No one could hear any of his announcements as they were all muffled. Due to miscommunication of their staff to my photographer, we cut our cake & no one knew. When I asked the general manager, Darius, he said, well that was the cake cutting if you already took pictures. The pass around food was not served until an hour and a half before the reception was ending. By the time we were made a plate by the attendant, it was ice cold. One of the staff members kept going to the dance floor. She tried to get me to dance, but I told her several times I did not want to do a line dance. When this was addressed to Darius the general manager, he says that staff dance when asked to by guests. No one asked her! She was asking people because she wanted to dance. I have several pictures of her in my professional pictures dancing- so unprofessional. The lighting is terrible in this place, spotlights nearly blinded us when walking in & photographer had to ask us to step out of it during our first dance because it was ruining our pictures. There were candles on the table, but they were not lit and it took 4 times asking for these to be lit. The place seemed to be falling apart at the seams with neither our attendant or the general manager ever readily available to address any of these issues. As I said above, despite my frustrations, my groom & I were set on enjoying ourselves & we ignored the cacophony of disaster and set our sights on the beauty of people we loved there to celebrate with us. I wanted my grievances to be heard & I was not only placated, but moreover told I was a liar. Save yourself some frustration, pay more & go somewhere else. I could probably list 20 more complaints about this place, but I believe I have painted a good picture. Several of my family members and friends have also reviewed for my wedding on 10-11-19, echoing much of the same.
