Had a quick dinner this evening with the Crystal Jade folks. Staff was friendly and fast. Food was hot, fresh, and tasty. I had the House Pan fried noodle combo with shrimp, beef, and chicken. Vegetables also in the dish along with fried rice. The hot and sour soup with an egg roll were also very good. Also threw back a Chinese beer. They have wine selection for you to choose from. They seem to do a good takeout business as I sat, several takeout orders left. Good for a Monday night. Come on by and enjoy a fresh, hot Chinese meal. Enjoy!! read more

Disappointing. I came in for dinner solo and ordered the spicy Korean shrimp. It came with 4 shrimp and a few slivers of carrots. The remainder of the dish was a combo of green onions and white onions. An entire plate of onions is not appetizing and inedible. The flavor was good which is a shame. I also had an egg roll. The price tag was nearly $20. Very overpriced for what I received. I doubt I will return. read more

You can tell from the outside that this place used to be a Village Inn; they did not bother to change much of the structure. Walking in it felt rather empty, but they have more than enough seats. I was with a group of five for dinner, and we asked for a table. They sat us at a long table with enough seats for 14 people, not that I complained though. The seats are rather heavy, so you should assist children or elderly with getting into their chair. Their menus are mismatched and uncomfortably bulky. I began by ordering a cup of Hot-and-Sour Soup, which was brought out almost immediately. I then ordered the "Kung Pao Triple Delicacies," which was beef, shrimp, and scallops served in a "spicy" Kung Pao sauce. It came out about five minutes after I ordered, very fast! However, it wasn't spicy in the slightest. However, it was still good. My only complaint would be that I didn't get much scallops or schrimp. The sweet and sour sauce that was at the table was rather runny and deluded, not the best. Prices were fair and the food was alright. Staff was very friendly, but it was difficult to understand them sometimes. Overall good experience. read more

My favorite thing about Crystal Jade is its abundance of delicious vegan offerings, both appetizer and entree. A favorite spot for the Omaha Vegan Meetup group, Crystal Jade has gone above and beyond to accommodate people such as myself. There is even a dish named for Isa Moskowitz, proprietor of Modern Love, prolific cookbook author, and the "world's coolest chef" according to Buzzfeed. (Isa noodle - dig it.) For protein, a vegan can order tofu, mock duck (seitan), or both. If I had to choose one or the other, I'd go with the mock duck because of its substantial texture and savory tastiness. However, I love the tofu here as well and would just feel unfulfilled if I didn't have it on my plate, too! Ordering both does result in the highest price for any particular vegan dish ($12.95 at the time of this writing). I ordered the lemak curry for the first time this last visit. I now have a new favorite curry and a new favorite at Crystal Jade! My dish included tofu, mock duck, bamboo shoots, and pineapple. The curry was creamy, not oily, and so flavorful. Oh, and I got a vegan egg roll for an appetizer. It's a pretty standard egg roll, crispy and full of a cabbage. Yummy enough and just one of several vegan apps. read more

We ordered takeout of Mongolian Beef and Orange Chicken. They only took 10 minutes and that's where they get A STAR. The service was horrendous....the lady taking the order was rude, monotone, and unhelpful even with informing about what or what doesn't come with an order. In this case, only white or fried rice, which she didn't even ask a preference. I walk in the door and the cashier walks away/disappears for about 4 minutes without having said a word. She returns and in as little words as humanly possible rings up a greater than $26 order that had been sitting at the counter passed the register that whole time. She is undoubtedly the order receptionist on the phone. Get home and the flavors don't remind either of us of any Mongolian Beef or Orange Chicken we've had before....obviously edible, but both items are salty and the orange chicken is nearly all fried flour over chicken....some pieces were only flour *see photo How this place is still in business is beyond a mystery. I would say this was a 2.5 star experience but since there is no half star on Yelp I had to round down. The good - the fried dumplings were great and you can't beat 1.88 bottles of beer. The bad - crab rangoons were really sad and my curry noodle soup came out room temp. I sent it back and got the same temp in return. I did not eat it but I was still charged for it. The mediocre - both of our entrees were just so-so. My orange beef was edible but nothing I would return for and Aimee's pad thai was soupy and sweet. We ate both but we are in no hurry to have either again. I wish it would have been better because the service was not bad and the people were very friendly. Crystal Jade is without question the most incredible Asian fusion food in Nebraska. Every meal I've had from here is just incredible. They have the best vegan options I've ever experienced, and that's exactly what keeps me coming back. Their fried tofu and mock duck are just so delicious, I could eat it every day. Pay attention to the sign on the door. They raised their prices 5 months ago. What isn't obvious is that in 5 months they haven't bothered to update prices in their menu. Remember how much to add to each item or you will have a very rude awakening when the bill comes. Even if they can't afford new menus, they should have updated the prices using stickers or something. Unless Monday is an off day for them, this place is just plain bad. A pretty much empty restaurant should have been my first sign to turn around and find a different place. Service seemed to consist of one waitress and one busboy/cashier for the whole place. Not a big issues, as only 3 tables were occupied. Which makes the poor level of service received even more puzzling. Food was dropped off, but never a check on whether it was up to par or not . Then waiting forever to get a check; even though I piled the plates on top of each other in case there was confusion if I was done or not. In terms of food: Egg roll did not taste like it was prepared in house. The entrée was ok: shrimp was good, but beef was "mystery shredded bits". The fried rice option is not really fried rice, just white rice with soy sauce(you can taste it) and some pieces of egg. I have had better food at $8.00 buffets. I have attempted to order from the vegan menu on two occasions and both times it's been horrible. Just not good at all, I don't recommend. But my mom has liked her chicken dishes from the regular menu both times we've come. I will not return after this last experience. I also asked for a plate of lemons, I like lemon water and notice if I ask servers for lemons, I'll get 2 tiny lemons so recently a friend suggested I ask for a plate full, so today when I asked for a small plate of lemons I got 2 tiny lemons! We have been regular customers of Crystal Jade since shortly after they opened. Over the years the faces have changed, but the food has remained consistently delicious. As Asian restaurants go in Omaha their atmosphere is nicer than most, but still suitable for casual dining. They also offer a full bar, and some of the best prices on imported beers you will find anywhere in town, as well as a large selection of Asian beer. Another nice thing about dining at Crystal Jade is the fact that their menu spans across many Asian cuisines. While the focus is on Chinese, there are many menu items that originate in Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Vietnam and even India. Their specialty may be in their many curry dishes, including my favorite Curry Noodle Soup, which I always order in place of hot and sour or egg drop soups, despite the up-charge. Vegetarians will appreciate their expanded menu of vegan and vegetarian dishes. Gluten free items also are featured. Prices are very reasonable, and we have always had prompt and friendly service. read more

This is our first time eating at Crystal Jade, and I was very happy with the food! We got our order delivered, and it got here sooner than I expected, and the food was piping hot! (To be fair though, we live probably 5 minutes away, but still, it was almost too hot to eat when we got it). Portion size of the meals was great, but the Vegan Egg Roll was really small (for being $1.50 ea.) The taste was on point though! I was so happy to see all the vegetarian/vegan options. They say they can make any meal vegan upon request! I ordered Twilight Delight (fried tofu, mock duck, & veggies in brown sauce). The fried tofu was really good, very big pieces too, and I've never had duck before (real or mock), but the mock duck was tasty, I thought, but a little spongy. I did not inquire about the exact ingredients of the brown sauce (traditionally it's made with beef), the menu said it's vegan, but if you are strict, you may just want to double check. I was just so happy to find a place with so many vegan options, and so willing to cater to vegans. This is going to be my new go-to place for take-out! read more

Went here right after the pandemic hit and restaurants shifted to delivery or curbside and wanted to support a local business. I ordered the PB chicken, crab Rangoon, and egg drop soup to go--and it was all pretty tasty. The Pb chicken arrived soggy and kind of cold but I guess that's what you get with take out. It reheated better in the oven for leftovers though. The chicken had a great flavor though. The crab Rangoon and soup were yummy! I've gone here multiple times because not only is it close to home but also work. The food is always terrible. The last time my co-workers and I made an order for pickup, I arrived at the time given and found the food cold. The egg rolls looked like they had been re-fried, or warmed up in a microwave. The filling was mushy and greasy. Two of the four entree orders were incorrect. One had mushrooms when there was no mention of it including mushrooms on the menu, which rendered it inedible to the recipient because of an allergy, and the other was chicken instead of beef. My food was fine, since I only ordered chicken fried rice. The fact that it was close to closing time when we ordered led us to believe that it was just bad timing, so we didn't complain and let it go. The last time I went, though, I decided to take some friends from Texas out to dinner. It was a bad decision to pick Crystal Jade. When we arrived there was no line, and we were seated immediately, which was nice, but the booth was dirty. The booth itself was sticky and the table was covered in rice and dried sauce drips. Service took forever. My dish was lukewarm when delivered to the table. Dinner was disappointing, and when we got home the food poisoning hit. No one was safe, and I think all four of us were laid out for the next day and a half. Now, if anyone suggests this place I politely refuse and get my own food from somewhere else read more

A hidden gem! We came here on Christmas Day and we all REALLY enjoyed everything we got. Their egg drop soup was my favorite because it reminded me of the egg drop soup at my favorite Chinese restaurant in my hometown. I loved the menu as it had a lot of different types of cuisine ranging from American Chinese to Korean. The service was great, and we got our food in a timely manner. The value was good as well. So good! I highly recommend this place. I LOVE that they have a special vegetarian section on the menu. We got sweet and sour chicken, chickpea masala, and curry puffs. Everything was awesome. Because these are the things I was looking for when deciding whether to order from here, here's some info on those three items: -The sweet and sour chicken is lightly breaded and comes with bits of pineapple, onions, and peppers. They will do sauce on the side if you ask. -The chana masala was pretty spicy. I'm a really big fan of spicy food and it was almost too much for me. -The curry puffs are like small samosas with less filling. This was one of the most disappointing meals we've had in recent memory. Through Door Dash we ordered the Mala Tofu, Luck 7, Hunan Shrimp, and Veggie Spring rolls. We had high hopes of a stellar meal given the number of positives reviews but after a few bites we found that the food was so bland and off-putting that we decided it was inedible and to pack it up and order from elsewhere. Neither the Mala Tofu or Hunan Shrimp we're remotely spicy or seasoned in any fashion; I've had more exciting box macaroni and cheese. The Lucky 7 was perhaps the most egregiously distasteful thing we ordered - bland with a note of lemongrass but lacked all the excitement the menu promised. The spring rolls on the other hand were a bright spot; served with a well seasoned (vinegar and soy sauce) peanut sauce - they seamed to have been made very fresh, and if the rest of the experience wasn't such a disaster, we would have considered ordering them again. I hope this was an off night for the restaurant and that others won't suffer the same experience we were exposed to. Best Chinese food in Omaha. They always have the same drink for the special of the day (a margarita), but their food is fantastic. Nothing puts a smile on my face like the vibes of an old school Chinese place. The menu here is very extensive and has a variety of different Asian-American cuisine (hints the pan-asian I suppose). From Thai to Chinese to Korean, you can literally mix and match appetizers, drinks and entrees -- which is exactly what I did. I ordered a Thai tea, which was very good--not to sweet and very rich, the chicken chow mein (brown sauce is the way to go) and order of crab rangoon . My friend ordered a green curry dish with tofu. Both our meals were excellent. The chicken chow mein actually had meat in it unlike other restaurants that overload on cabbage and skip putting a good amount of protein in the dish. Chow mein noodles were very crispy, as well as the crab rangoon. Crab rangoon had a good amount of cream cheese in it as well! The curry was also very good, actually thick in consistency and not overly soupy and was packed with tofu and veggies. Very good meal for a cheap price! I commend our server, sweet little Asian lady! This is a hidden Omaha gem. I have passed by this restaurant numerous times but never gone in. Finally my husband wanted to try, so we placed a to go order. The gluten free menu is huge! We ordered the GF General Tso's and it was better than any regular General Tso's that Ive tried. We got panfried noodles and a chicken and veggie dish too. Everything was fresh and hot! The food is delicious and the presentation is delightful, with roses and swans made from carrots and radishes and whatnot. Two of the dishes that haunt my dreams and bring me back often are the shrimp lemak curry and the house special pan fried noodles. The dressings for the salad bar are also very tasty. Surprisingly, the American fare is also quite good. I took a chance on trying the potato soup once and it pops into my thoughts on occasion as yet another lure Jade-ward. I keep meaning to try other dishes, but the cravings that draw me there are specific and insistent. The one drawback is the price. This is one the best Asian food I've ever had. I loved the 1.88 beer. The taste of the food, the presentation, the service . . . all was great. They gotchu, boo boo. Gluten-Freeda-Kahlo? Thursdays, my friends. Okay, all the time, since they have dedicated an entire page of the menu to gluten-free options. But Thursdays, in particular, they do half-price chicken wings and a free egg drop soup with your GF entree purchase. Shut the front door, right? This is the best damn egg drop soup I have had in Omaha, hands down. There is a buttery richness to it that is just incomparable. Ask for them to add green onions, as it doesn't originally come with the soup. Even if you're not Celiac, the Crispy Shrimp on the gluten-free menu is something out of a dream. And yes, there is GF General Tso's. And Sesame Chicken. Basically I died and went to heaven. If they could find a way to duplicate Honey Walnut Shrimp in a gluten-free way, I would never eat anywhere else in this city. But they haven't figured that out yet. We came in late traveling, place was empty, looks like the dinner customers had left, so we ordered 'to go' and took them back to our hotel. Sauces were just rightly balanced, not salty, nor too sweet, tasty, and has different flavors on each dish we ordered. The Shrimp Tofu combination (tika makala?) dish has generous servings of both, laced with water chestnuts and hot!. But the Beef and Scallop dish had only 3 Freaking Scallops! --sliced thinly! and tons of water chestnuts! (disguised as scallops!?) One thing I hate about these kinds of restaurant commercialism, is the blatant DISHONESTY! If you offer a dish in your menu,, (like this Beef and "Scallops") be honest enough to put a fair amount of scallops! and do not fool the people --Your Customers!--by substituting it with another crap to look like it! read more

This is the best Village Inn I have ever been to! Actually now it's far better than any VI could ever hope to be. I have been here quite a few times and each time I get some new item that jumps out at me. Most recently I was here for Omaha Vegan Meetup which is similar to an Elite Yelp event, but is only based on the food being vegan. It usually costs more too. This run through we were treated to a full buffet. Spring rolls, pastry puff(samosas), Curry Noodle soup, and about nine entrees with some desserts that I had no room for. ALL vegan! Stellar. I used to be a huge fan of the Massamon Curry, but now am hooked on Two Generals which is just General Tso's tofu and mock duck (seitan). the sauce is savory and a little spicy unless you bite into a Thai chili. Whoops. For the rest of the Omnivores, don't fret. They have a plethora of dishes for you too. I just can't comment on them. There is a great variety of flavors. I've been a fan of this place for a few years. And for the second year in a row, we ended up here for an NYE dinner. The menu is vast -- with entrees ranging from traditional American Chinese to Malaysian to Indian to Korean. Plus they always have fantastic drink specials, if you're into that sort of thing. I started off with a bowl of the curry noodle soup. It tasted a bit too salty for me, but I'd give it another try. On this visit we split an order of a garlic chicken dish (I forget the exact name!). The sauce was sweet, succulent and a bit garlic-y (which should be expected). Besides the chicken, carrots, water chestnuts and some other veggies added to the texture. All around delicious. I've never had a bad meal here. Plus, the restaurant is clean and unassuming, holed up in what appears to be an old Village Inn. The prices are decent, but are a little bit more than what you'd pay at similar places. I'd say it's warranted, as Crystal Jade is a cut of above the rest. read more

I had a weekday lunch at this place which is a stone's throw west of 72nd street. My choice was the Chicken with Vegetables. It came with a cup of soup (Hot and Sour or Egg Drop). I opted for the latter and it was a bit salty but good. The meal had fresh veggies cooked just right including: broccoli, carrots, water chestnuts, onion and those little edible ears of corn. The white meat chicken seemed fresh and it was all tossed in a light brown sauce. I ordered it with steamed rice which came in a separate small bowl. If more flavor is of your choosing, one could get fried rice instead. For my beverage, I ordered the iced tea with lemon. It tasted fresh brewed with a hint of smoky flavor- very unique. But it seems that lately the food quality has been going down which lead me to find other Chinese places to eat at - now we go to China Road or Jades Palace. This place is notable for being the only Chinese restaurant I've found with a gluten-free menu that includes the brown-sauce fried meats. In other words, they have sesame chicken and General Tso's chicken, gluten-free! After over a decade without the General's chicken, I was in heaven. My girlfriend got something with shrimp and a white sauce. She didn't like it very much, but I was too busy enjoying my delicious General's chicken to be sensitive and thoughtful about it. Bottom line: the General's chicken is awesome. The gluten-free menu is awesome. I didn't feel the least bit of gluten reaction after. If I lived in Omaha, I'd be back all the time. read more
