I have been a member at Crunch for a few years now because the monthly membership has remained steady at a low price, unlike the local gym in my hometown. I hurt my lower back and the manager recommended I take Pilates classes to strengthen my core. She offered me a free trial class and I was hooked! The instructor, Sam, was such a big help in getting me back on the road to recovery! She gave me specific exercises I could also utilize at home or at the gym to help me strengthen my back muscles. I have to say that the Pilates classes really toned my body and I am more flexible that ever before! Thank you Sam for your hard work and dedication to your clients! PS-I highly recommend the Berries Amore protein shake, which is now my favorite post-workout snack. Yum! read more

If I could give this place zero stars after my experience, I would. Whatever you do...DO NOT join this gym. The manager, Terri Papille, is a scam artist and you should never trust her with your credit card information. After moving out of town OVER A YEAR AGO, they are STILL charging me. This includes an unauthorized renewal (annual fee), which was charged nearly 6 months after I moved away and monthly charges for over a year. I called and politely explained the situation and asked if they could work with me. The manager, Terri, had absolutely no sympathy and did nothing to help. She sent me more charges after I cancelled. So, I emailed her. The email exchange is absolutely appalling. In fact, after my credit card company blocked the charges, she STILL continued to charge me. Once again... She is a scam artist and you should not trust them with your credit card information. read more

I have been a member of this gym for a few years. I have stayed even through some tough changes when it went from World Gym to Crunch Fitness. It is now really starting to go down hill. Last month they got rid of the spinning program completely and they just severely cut the amount of hours that the daycare is open. The parents are the ones that pay the most. There are still some decent classes but how much more can they cut. I am starting to look into other gyms. read more

Overall it's not a bad gym for what you pay. You get the classic etiquette of people never cleaning up after themselves and putting equipment back where it belongs. The worst part is the music. It's just horrendous. Granted I can listen to my own music, I come with friends and have to listen to awful sad songs while I lift. No one has time for that. read more

I think this gym is fantastic. I have joined other gyms in the past and this one has been by far my favorite. The machines are recently replaced, the facilities are clean and inviting, and I have never had an issue with feeling "out of place." Even though I love the atmosphere of the gym, I do have a very big problem with the tanning. For an extra 10 dollars a month, tanning, classes, and guest passes come with, which i thought was an excellent idea. However, the procedure for tanning did not meet my expectations. The staff was rude, unhelpful, and the system in which they have set up was pointless and disappointing. Even though we were waiting 20 minutes, no one was in the room, and no one on the list was in site, we would still need to wait for the first person on the list to return. Meaning if they never came back for the night, noone else would be able to use the tanning room. I am all for first come, first serve...but seriously? I think that was a bit much, dont you think? This is why this gym did not receive the full 5 stars. read more

The renovations were nice, but you definitely get what you pay for. The cable machines sometimes get stuck mid movement...dangerous and ineffective for a workout. I am a member now, but left for a few years because of how dirty it was, unfortunately it's still dirty even after the renovations. read more

This is a great gym for serious workouts. Its not a gym to hang around and talk and meet people. They keep up with the eqt. It very clean. They have tons a great classes. The parking sucks, but hey your going to the gym you can walk a couple of extra feet. read more

My review is mainly for Sam, she is the best thing to happen to Crunch. I take her Pilates Reformer class (separate cost for that) twice a week and she is awesome (and the extra money spent is worth it)!! She is an excellent instructor, knows her stuff, and kicks your butt. I have seen an incredible transformation in my body since taking her class. I am leaner and have muscle tone. Sam is very attentive to each person, making sure their form is correct, so no one's wasting their time or getting injured. The workouts are varied and every muscle is worked. I may try doing a personal training session with her one day as well because I trust that she knows which exercises are best for me and not just going through the motions. Now, this isn't to say I don't have any complaints about Crunch in general- do I wish it smelled better when I walked in the door or passed the locker rooms? Yes. Do I wish the people working behind the counter seemed a little more professional and not just friends hanging out? Yes. But for $20 bucks a month (I also take other classes) I can kind of let these things go a bit. Oh- and a thumbs up to Holly as well! I take her 60 minute Cardio Tai Box class and my limbs are like jelly when it's over- awesome workout and she is great! read more

I agree with another poster and add on to a prior post I had made, this gym seems so inexpensive, but they look for every opportunity to scam you for money. I went down to the club to cancels my son's membership as requested, but was then told there is a 20 day window - ok, and of course the monthly fee and the annual fee fall in that time frame so I will have to pay both of those on his account. I get having to pay the monthly fee, but now I'm being charged an annual fee for a gym where he will no longer be a member. I'm sorry, but this is bulls_ _ t. read more

I was excited to find a Crunch location near my job and joined asap. However, what a let down. This gym looks quite unattractive and the set up is not well designed at all. The so called "renovations" still leave very little to be desired. The staff is nice though. Niko, at the front desk, is exceptional! She knows you by name. The 2 stars are for Nicole, the person who set me up in the system when i went the first day. The process was seamless, she was knowledgeable of what the Groupon promotion offered and provided me with useful information, i.e. the promotion I had purchased also allowed me to use other Crunch gyms throughout the area, that was not listed on the coupon. Nicole set me up with my first personal training session with Sam (Pilates reformer). I arrived on the date and time I was confirmed for the session with Sam. I inquire with the front desk personnel if they knew where she was and explained that I had a session with her. I am told she could either be there or over there (as this guy points in two directions) NICE!! OK. I proceed to ask a different person what Sam looked like? I am told "she's blonde and wearing something bright" Ok, that cleared it up. I stop wasting my time and get on a treadmill. I am literally on for 15 minutes and someone, (assume this is a manager) came over and asked me if I was looking for Sam? I said yes, but no one could find her, so I decided to start working out. Sam had surfaced and pulls me into her "office" looks at my account on the screen and says "oh you're "A" groupon, ok" with a hint of disdain. Moving on ! We head to where she teaches reformer classes, I take off my shoes, we do some stretches, I jump up and down on the reformer for about 15 minutes, the complimentary session is OVER! What a complete waste of time. The locker rooms are gross, toilet paper all over the toilet area, steam room is a joke , the only area that seemed to be in somewhat in passable working condition was the sauna. I joined Crunch a couple months ago and i love the classes available. I started taking cardio kickboxing with Betsy once I joined and I can't stop taking her class! All the instructors I've taken classes with are great although some of them can be a little repetitive with their workouts. But I definitely recommend any classes with Betsy and Adeena! However. When I first joined literally the day after I got a call from a personal trainer, talking me into a free session. Now I had previously done personal training at my old gym and I loved my trainer I lost a lot of weight and learned a lot of skills. So when this guy was talking to me about a session with him I could tell he was new right off the bat. I felt bad so I agreed to one free session the next day. I had mentioned I want to work more on chest, back, and shoulders. Well let me tell you the entire workout I did had nothing to do with the 3! Thank god it was free cause it was honestly a waste of my time. After the session he wanted to discuss prices of personal training packagers and the prices are outrageous ! Almost $300 for a session pack! And thank god I'm not training with anyone all the trainers are ALWAYS on their phones when with clients ! How rude ! You should be focusing on your clients not your phone!!!!! THEN I was approached by The instructor who does the boot camp classes. Naturally got conned into a free class so I tried it out. It was a circuit class and the guy has military experience so he knows his stuff. However the classes I've seen him do before the free class I took and even the classes he does now it's practically all the same workouts. Those classes are an extra charge, if I'm not wrong I believe it was $150 for 5 and $300 or 10. Still outrageously priced if you ask me. Besides the classes and overly priced trainers, everything else is pretty well. Although I tried to use the steam room and it was off? So that didn't workout. And it kinda skeevs me out that there's carpeting in the locker room instead of tile. Everytime I shower there I make sure i wear flip flops. It would be nice to see more people cleaning as well. read more

What a waste. As someone previously stated "You get what you pay for". It is low in price, so you get low class. WARNING: if you sign up for contradictory personal training sessions, don't believe 3 months are 3 months, nor 6 months are 6, because if you don't cancel 30 days in advance they'll just keep charging you. Avoid the incompetent & useless manager Terri/Theresa. I discovered & owned up to my mistake, after re-reading the contract (with grammatical errors, probably written by her) but she can't admit to her mistakes. You call a manager to try and resolve a situation, but she instead tries to belittle the customer with no resolution, just the mindless chatter of " Well, there's nothing I can do, & my hands are tied..." She's apparently more important and busy than a Senator whom has the diligence of returning a call. The kids who work there are good, they do try to help if/when they can (constantly inoperable steam room, sauna, machines) but they get chewed out because the "manager" is disingenuous. This was the topic of a conversation I had with one of them whom I apologized to for taking my frustration out on her & poor thing said she's used to it. Although they are independently owned, I will shoot a letter to corporate to let them in on how they're being represented in this franchise. read more

To start, the location is good and I really like the classes offered, the instructors are always great. Specifically, the yoga instructors are much better than you would imagine for a gym like this. Besides the above, this place leaves me feeling angry most of the time. The staff is awful, they stand around, talk to eachother 70% of the time and are not receptive. The temperature is too hot/stuffy during peak hours. The bathrooms have gross, old carpeting. No one does a sweep of the facility to check for paper towels or soap in dispensers. The shampoo provided in the shower area smells really bad. The women's room sauna gauge is broken. Things are broken or chewed up looking. I have made comments to management several times about what I have noticed, but it seems like nothing changes. Really sad because it could be so much better. I actually lowered my rating from a 3 to a 2 after writing this. read more

The former World Gym has been transformed into a clean, updated, affordable fitness club! For 10 bucks a month there is no need too stray too far to find a better value! Group fitness classes are available for an additional Monthly fee. The staff is courteous, friendly and very helpful and from what I see the equipment has been and continues to be updated on a regular basis. I work out with a personal trainer who is affordable, knowledgeable and motivating. Im sold on Crunch. read more

Firmly in the category of "You get what you pay for". Nice, pleasant staff, decent parking except for peak times, lots of equipment, all of it poorly maintained and not calibrated. Not sure what the annual maintenance fee is used for, as the simplest things (one example, the paper towel dispensers) are neglected. Lots of mats and plastic steps disappeared and haven't been replaced for months. The list goes on and on. Gym etiquette isn't enforced so make sure you wipe down the equipment BEFORE you use it as well. Even the staff use the equipment and don't wipe it down, honestly. Avoid going mid-morning, when they have classes; you can't hear yourself think and the classes get priority over the equipment, naturally. Also, stay away from the gym during big rainstorms -- the roof leaks like a sieve in all rooms. Working around the problems makes it worth it. It makes sense to hang on until another good deal comes up.. read more

I thought this gym was a good choice since I had been a Crunch member in a Manhattan location and my experience was AMAZING, however, this location failed to meet the standards I expected. I joined because of the classes, but this gym has a schedule that doesn't meet the standard 9-5 work shift. all of the classes pretty much end by 7:30 and there are only about 3 classes offered super early on weekends. Because this gym was not convenient for me, I ended up canceling after all. I signed up for this gym because I was thrilled that there was no contract-Don't be fooled! My credit card was charged for 3 extra months even after I canceled my membership and I didn't realize until I noticed my credit card statement. I had to dispute the charges, send forms to my creditor and email the manager Terri (because you can't reach her by phone for some reason)- and still she told me that I can't get a refund for the $70 they STOLE from me. It is way too much of a headache to deal with! I probably lost a few pounds from the stress so I guess that's the only way Crunch benefited me! Ha! I'd steer clear from this gym. There are way more options in Bergen county that offer similar-if not better customer service!!!!!!!! read more

horrible horrible gym. all the equipment is broken. please try this gym out before you join especially the elepticals. none of the tvs work most of the resistance wont change once you start over a minute. try the back row in particular. one has been broken for months. this gym had too many members when it was world now that is $10 for get it. there is no parking and forget getting into a spinning class unless you want to waste another hour of your time because thats how early you have to be to reserve a bike. the locker room is either too cold or too hot. this place is a joke pleaseeeee spend another $10 and at least join retro. this gym is not for real athletes. you get what you pay for folks. i having been working out for 20 years and this is by far the worst gym around. do a trial and you will see. read more

I have to agree with Chris B. 100%. World gym when it was maintained properly was a really great gym. They had great equipment and the layout wasn't bad. Since Crunch took over they filled it with awful machines and they have no idea what a layout is. You cannot get parking, you most likely have to cross the street and park there or wait till after 6:30 and park at the lot next door. This gym shares it's lot with a gymnastics place and you get psycho smug gymnastic mothers driving through the lot like nascar drivers or follow you to a spot like its mall parking during the holiday season. Back to the gym itself, if you primarily do cardio and work out on the circuit machines this place is your spot for $10 a month. Don't forget about the initial $30-$40 they charge you for just signing up. The staff is friendly no issues really there. But if you take your time and workouts seriously you won't like this place. No weights are re-racked, its a total mess. The machines that got replaced which was everything, all suck now. There are no regular smith machines, no hack squat, one leg press, and the dumbbell area is very very cramped. The benches are quite high off the ground so if you are a shorter good luck with that. Oh also there are 900 teenagers in there so that sucks too. If you're broke and have no other choice you join Crunch. read more

I have been a Crunch member for over a year (maybe 2 years now). Overall, the gym a good deal for what you pay for. It is clean, staff is friendly, and there is a good variety of equipment and classes. The personal trainers are friendly, energetic, and helpful. I am giving it a lower rating, however, because they do not offer early morning classes before work hours or late enough classes for after work if you have longer work days. So if you work a 9-5 schedule and have any sort of a commute, your class options are EXTREMELY limited. Also, I would have rated it higher if they still had the pilates classes on their weekly class schedule. They may still offer a pilates reformer class, but it is not the same and it is also very expensive and limited in spots (and I already pay for the personal trainer). I have tried to address these concerns to the staff, in hopes that at least some of it will change. If they offered a more flexible class schedule and reinstated the pilates, I would rate this gym a 4 star. read more
