I have never taken a rowing class before, and decided to do so at Row House in Washington…read more Currently, the complex is under construction but it was still easy to find. There is plenty of parking in the lot. I took the Restore class with Francesca, and it was great. I was given a little intro to rowing before class started, and she gave me all the props I needed for class. The energy was great and I was surprised at my rowing ability. I had always been nervous to try but Francesca was great at encouraging me. They have various themed music classes which seem like so much fun!

I took my 2nd class today, and I can't really stop thinking about how much I'm loving these…read moreclasses. I have rarely enjoyed working out in my life, and I'm not exactly in great shape. I've found workouts that I've tolerated over the years, but I always end up falling off. But something about Row House just feels different. Firstly, it's so close to my house and fits so well into my schedule, so that is really what prompted me to give it a try. I've taken two classes with Lynn, and I can't believe how good I feel. The rowing machine addresses so many of the issues I usually deal with - primarily knee pain and lower back pain which usually prevent me from being able to work my core properly or to do floor exercises well. Because the machine is so low-impact, I got an incredible full body workout without irritating any of my usual problem areas, and also without feeling like I wanted to die during the class (which is how spin class makes me feel). I like that there isn't any change in resistance to contend with. The difficulty of the workout is ENTIRELY up to your body, based on how fast you row and how hard you push with your legs, so I never felt like my body couldn't handle the machine. My body literally only did what it was capable of, and left me with a very healthy but not overwhelming soreness the next day. After trying two different class types, I decided to buy an 8 pack of classes. I've already scheduled my next 3 classes, and I'm considering adding on another one tomorrow. I'll probably end up buying a monthly unlimited plan. Thanks to Lynn and everyone at Row House for being so welcoming and encouraging. I almost cried today in class because I feel like I finally found something I can do with confidence. It really means the world.

So I was traveling in January and I heard a lot about this place online…read more A friend of mine invited me to join him and I met up with Joe, one of the trainers there. This place is AMAZING! The environment is great for newbies, and for folks like me that have not worked out in a while. Let's just say, the best tip I got going into it was this: "Pace yourself." So the workout was a circuit, and it was a full body workout. 3 sets, with 3-4 workout per set done as a circuit. Some new folks kill themselves by using too much weight on the first set and cannot keep up at the end. By the 2nd set I was starting to slow down: I was not conditioned at all but at least I paced myself. But Joe was extremely encouraging and helped with fixing my form for the different workouts I wasn't used to. The facility is tucked in the business complex so you have to drive deep into it. The place is clean, the music is awesome, the bathroom is clean, there's towels (for sweat, not for showering), and the equipment all work and in very good condition and are clean! I highly recommend this place because of the trainers who are awesome, and because the environment is very supportive. Viz. one woman was there in her 40s and she was trying her best, some of the girls cheered her on, and Joe was encouraging her and adjusting her workouts based on her fitness level. Definitely check them out since this place gives results! I don't know if they have drop-in rates to do the classes whilst traveling but just ask them! Note: They also do your measurements to see your progress!

She made sure I had the right posture and motivated me to work even harder! As a result, I felt comfortable and really enjoyed my experience. For the new people: make sure you wear leggings at or below the knee and a top or shirt (you can't wear just a sports bra). I also recommend grip socks! They sell them there too.

I am extremely disappointed with the way Orangetheory handles its membership cancellation process…read more Back in May, I requested to cancel my membership because I knew I would be out of the country for several months. I was told that management would be able to handle everything over the phone and that someone would call me. That call never came. While I was away, I discovered that I had still been charged for July. When I called to resolve the issue, I was told that cancellations had to be done in person, despite what I had originally been told. Today I came into the studio and explained the entire situation to Hannah, who introduced herself as the manager. She assured me that because I had already been charged in July, I would not be charged again on my next billing date (August 14). Based on that assurance, I signed the cancellation form and left. About an hour later, Hannah called me back and completely changed what she had told me. She informed me that I would still be responsible for paying for another full month, despite her earlier promise that I would not be charged. I am leaving again in just a few days and will not even be in the country to use those classes. Charging a customer for services they cannot use after repeatedly providing incorrect information is incredibly frustrating and feels unfair. This entire experience has shown a complete lack of professionalism, communication, and customer care. Instead of working with a long-time member who made every effort to cancel in advance, Orangetheory chose to hide behind its policies while giving inconsistent information along the way. Do yourself a favor and find a fitness studio that values its members, treats them with courtesy, and doesn't look for every opportunity to squeeze another month's payment out of them.
