I was up in Northern California fishing the Hex hatch on Fall River. What a jewel of a restaurant. My wife and guide went for dinner. We started out with a large and unique tater tot appetizer to split. Delicious. Then on to the soup or salad - coconut curry soup or a wedge of iceberg lettuce with bacon crumbles. Again delicious. My main course was a pounded chicken breast in a panko crust. Out of the world. Dessert was an ice cream sundae. The chef had worked in San Francisco but came back home to start this restaurant. I had the privilege last week to eat at Crumbs. Boy was I blown away. The menu is short and simple, which you might expect in a small town restaurant. However, the flavors were simply amazing (what you might not expect from a small town) and that's when I forgot where I was. I had the brisket sandwich with everything and a cup of the tomato basil soup. I have dined in San Diego, Bend, Portland, Reno and a lot of places in-between. I have never had a sandwich that was this good. There has been some memorable eats over the years, but Crumbs stands out on the top. The soup was good, tomato soup is tomato soup, definitely worth trying though. When the behemoth sandwich landed on my table though it was visually an abstract work of art. The flavors were an explosion in my mouth. I was seriously sad after I had eaten every last "Crumb" of the sandwich that it was all gone. We were referred there by some co-works just down the street so we thought we'd check it out. We heard everything is equally as delicious and I cannot wait to go back. Crumbs rocks the house with unique cuisine in a part of CA that is sorely lacking in good restaurants. Most of what yoU find around here is burgers, steaks, and frostys, but at Crumbs, Chef Travis crafts everything from calamari steak and sushi to pork schnitzel with an asian glaze and daily pasta specials with home made sauce. Give it a try, and the people couldn't be any nicer, a must stop after a day of fishing, golfing , or just checking out this beautiful part of northern CA. read more

Just finished eating a delicious dinner in an unexpected spot. We were traveling with 2 children one is 2 and not exactly good at dining out. Looking in the window I wasn't sure I wanted to try it because it looked too nice to dine with a cranky toddler but the hostess and later to find out owner was very welcoming and said they had crayons and items to keep him happy. We were sat at the bar and right infront of the chef. What a fun experience to yell " Fire in the hole" every time the chef sautéed a meal. We all loved it. The food was all very flavorful I just can't say enough! Will be stopping in when we are here visiting family. Love the restaurant and it's owners/ staff. read more

Decent dining is extinct in this northern California area so a 'real good restaurant' deserves kudos! Crumbs restaurant is wonderful. Great service & a good atmosphere. We had lunch & I recommend it to everyone. Can't wait to go back to have dinner. I had the 'Killer Pastrami Sandwich' - it was deliciously different with a new spin - jack cheese. crispy grilled onions, avocados & sweet chili sauce. I ordered it with the avo & sauce on the side but then put them on the sand & it was yummy! Definitely would order it again. It came with sweet potato fries & I dipped in chipolte aioli sauce, again wonderful. The 2 other guests had a Bleu Juicy Burger & Parmesan Chicken Fettucini Alfredo - I sampled both dishes & would not hesitate to order them also. Everything was very fresh, even the hamburger meat. On the downside, it was noisy - but then were were seated next to a table of 8 diners. Our lunch took a little longer to prepare than I expected. This casually upscale restaruant resides in a cute, renovated older home right on the highway (super easy to find) & has been open just over 1 year. It has a light open airy feeling with hardwood floors. It has a handicapped access ramp on the entrance & the bathrooms are also accessible. Cheap to moderately priced for lunch, good menu choices & excellent food. This area is noted for restaurants serving up the same old boring frozen or canned food you'd see on every cafe/diner menu, then it's all about quanitiy not quality - Crumbs serves up a decent portion of excellent quality food. They even come back to make sure you are pleased with your meal! Really good service. Glad to have a great local restaurant - my only question is - 'Why did I wait so long to go there'? ' read more

I have passed by this restaurant many times, simply because it looks like a small residence and doesn't really stand out. However, friends have told me it is divine, so I decided to try it out. There is no need to go anywhere else. I had sushi here that made the other types I've had seem like Panda Express fare. The chef borrows from all sorts of ethnic flavors to make a roll so awesome I didn't even want to apply soy sauce or wasabi for fear of masking the flavor created. Service , Great and Friendly. Hamburger, not so good. Start with a cold bun, put thousand island on, Way over seasoned meat and three pieces of lettuce ends so ugly I would put them in the compost! Asked ,very nice waitress, for some tomato and onion, which she brought. I was billed extra for the roma tomato slices and onion, on an already over priced " hamburger! I visited the Fall River for a getaway weekend with some of my closest girlfriends. Being more of an urban girl I looked forward to the incredible beauty of the valley but was a little hesitant at the remoteness of the area. Not much shopping, no spas, no wine tasting and (God forbid) there's mountain lions! Another concern was we needed to find a restaurant for a friend's birthday celebration. I imagined a little diner or hamburger stand so was amazed to come across this lovely little restaurant. It's a darling house which has been nicely renovated into an open and airy eatery. Upon entering you're warmly greeted by the manager. Service is fabulous and Yes, Yes, Yes! The food is excellent. We had a wide variety of what was on the menu and everyone raved about how good their meal was. So how, why, what is this gem of a restaurant doing in such a remote area? Well, it's making us "city girls" want to drive the 4 hours to get there and have dinner.... Yum! And I have to admit, the Fall River Valley is beyond magnificent and the wildlife isn't so intimidating anymore. Life is good :o) read more

I'd really like to give them ten stars but I'll settle for five! This place is the epitome of causal fine dining. Most welcoming staff and atmosphere. We arrived Wednesday evening without a reservation with a group of 12 expecting to be turned away. However, we were welcomed in and we were so glad to be able to experience this labor of love in one of our favorite places. We ordered the double trouble to start, hard to describe but if you like sushi this will blow your mind! Our group ordered burgers, which they described as the best they had ever had; we ordered the the grilled shrimp, which I had and it was perfect! We also ordered the brisket and shrimp bowl and the chicken dish (cannot remember the name :/) everything was AMAZING! The chef's sauces made every dish unique and unforgettable. The service was friendly and refreshing! We got to chat with the owners about how they came to create this gem of a place and it was truly a spectacular night! Don't forget to order dessert! Had an appetizer and a dessert. The appetizer was supposed to be brisket however after complaining to the waitress that the meat was tough I was told it was not brisket but was steak instead. I should have been told this at the time I ordered it and I would have ordered something else. The desert was cake and ice cream and the cake was served cold although it was tasty. To end our week long fishing vacation, we invited our family to dinner at Crumbs Restaurant. Having eaten at Crumbs many times over the past several years, we knew we were in for a treat. Travis never disappoints! We all ordered the same menu item...Brisket Dinner. We were offered either soup (Cheesey Chile Verde) or salad, the main course was brisket over sushi rice, topped with sweet chile sauce and another delicious sauce, fresh veggies (carrots & kale medley), bread with oil and basalmic vinegar. The "Cheesey Chile Verde soup was amazing and the brisket unbelievable.....Our family is still raving over how fabulous this meal was.....If your in McArthur, CA. (Hwy 299) stop in and say hello to Travis and try one of the fabulous dishes. read more

We were on a road trip to see Mount Lassen and environs. There was a lot of bad food and a lot of mediocre food. We couldn't believe it when we found Crumbs. It was heaven. My wife and I went for the sushi, which was as good as any sushi we've had in the San Francisco Bay Area, where we live. Our son had a wonderful noodle dish with excellent alfredo sauce and crispy chicken. If you're a foodie in need of a serious fix in Shasta County, drive extra miles to McArthur and have a feast at Crumbs. Six stars for both food and service. Very friendly folks and an oasis in a desert. It's real, not a mirage. read more

We had a great dinner at Crumbs - what an interesting place in a beautiful valley! We had a selection of salads, some vegetarian "sushi" rolls, chicken, and the delicious brownie dessert. I went there tonight with my friends, the good is amazing, the atmosphere is relaxed yet fun. This place is definitely worth the drive.

This gem is a destination in itself..from the wonderfully warm welcome from the manager (there was a confusion with our reservation but they made room for us graciously and with no fuss) and hostess to the fabulous choices on the menu....(pasta, steaks, sushi etc the choices were perfect,) it was a wonderful evening. If you can get the ribeye with the mushroom ragu, go for it..but the Calamari piccata was to die for..clearly the committment to the food and a quality experience carries the day.....dont miss it! read more

My husband and I (along with our 17 month old son) visited Fall River Mills/McArthur from our hometown of Houston, TX, and we had the opportunity to eat at Crumbs as well as meet Travis (the chef). What a wonderful meal! We ordered the dynamite roll for appetizer followed by the Prince Edward Island mussels and salad topped with a mix of ranch+vinegairette dressing.... yum! The service was wonderful even though our son insisted on making a big mess (as per routine). We finished off our wonderful meal with a dish of bananas foster... simple and delicious! We would highly recommend Crumbs to anyone visiting or passing by Fall River Mills/McArthur. read more

Love, love, love this place! For the last two years I have driven by it and wanted to visit. Just the curbside appeal is unique for the area. My husband and I decided to drive an hour and a half (each way) from Alturas to McArthur for our anniversary. It was so worth the trip and the wait. To our total amazement it was Sushi Tuesday. (Sushi in McArthur, really?) Not only sushi rolls but absolutely wonderful sushi rolls. (I Recommend the Mt. Fuji and my husband ordered two more Caterpillar rolls to take home for a late nigh snack!) Our main entrees were great. He ordered the rib eye with the wasabi mashed potatoes and a salad. I ordered the ahi tuna and had the soup of the day. The menu is not large, but there is something for every taste. The beer selection was decent but, yes the wine list could be improved. Unique cute little restaurant in small town McArthur. Friendly service, good hours, "the" place to go, and it's rare when it's not full. It's supported well by both locals and tourists. Decent prices and definitely generous portions. All the staff are really personable. However,....just a few constructive criticisms in the interest of being able to bump the total stars for this place to 4 or 5: The chef has a love affair with sweet chili sauce--on everything! Can you say overkill? In fact the whole menu has gotten a teeny bit boring and could stand to be changed up a little. The chef is a one-man show and could really use a kitchen assistant because there can be really long waits, not only between courses, but among diners at the same table! Sometimes the entrees do not all arrive even close to the same time! It's terrible to either let your dinner get cold while you wait for the rest to show up, or to eat your own food while the rest of the table has none!! Last, the acoustics on a crowded lunch or dinner day are unfortunately terrible--stucco walls and uninsulated wood floors, heavy wood tables and chairs leave nothing to soften or absorb any sound. It's nearly impossible to converse when it's crowded, yet it's just the kind of place where you'd like to linger and share a long conversation! A few small tweaks--menu update, expanded wine and beer choices, improved kitchen timing, maybe a couple of rugs or some chair pads to absorb some sound and this place would be really great, not just very good! read more
