Tl;dr: Decent food for the price, menu selection is good, service is fast, water is crisp and they have free WiFi! I always look into supporting local restaurants and businesses whenever I visit a place I haven't been before so with that said, take my review with a grain of salt. The good: Decent amount of servings for the price, bang for your buck type of thing, most of the customers were asking for to go boxes. The place is big with plenty of tables and seats, good for big groups. Our server was very pleasant. Their menu is extensive, lots to choose from. Their water is seriously crisp tasting. Parking lot has ample parking. Some would argue that it's pricey but for its location logistically, it's justifiable. The not so good: Our food tasted like watered down Mexican food, not enough seasoning on anything, the rice, beans and meat all tasted like they were made to season it by your own self. It was actually a little hilarious since I'm guessing they are trying to cater to tourists/out of towners, it's a safe bet to under-season the food than have too much. The lack of cilantro on anything is a great indication of that. Again, the food isn't terrible. However, as I was about to finish my beans and rice, I tasted soap from one of the edges of my plate. They need to reevaluate their cleaning agents since a few moments after that plate taste mystery, the smell of the cleaning agent used to clean the tables on the other room emanated in the entire diner area. It looks like they're using scented Clorox in a spray bottle, like the ones you buy from Target (they have those in the restrooms too). It's great to have a well sanitized dining area but the smell was off putting and overpowering. Both restrooms have A LOT of signs/reminders on its walls to keep it clean but there were no hand soap and the other one was out of toilet paper. They both looked and smelled clean though. Will I visit again? The short list of restaurant options will most likely not make me consider coming back here if I was traveling solo or with my partner. But, if I am with a big group, sure. After a morning of hiking in Burney, my friends and I came to Julio's for a lunch and it really hit the spot. I got the shredded beef enchilada lunch special which came with the rice and beans as well. I wasn't expecting much, but it was delicious, and really stacks up to other Mexican restaurants I've been to. I was also impressed by the number of options on the menu. It was so hard to choose what I wanted! The waiters were really nice. They did take longer at times, but nothing too long. I would definitely recommend this spot for those visiting Burney. read more

We searched for a place with breakfast, not easy to find one. Sadly many places have closed for various reasons. 2 stars because, though my breakfast was not edible, the basic 2 egg breakfast others had was fine. Service was poor.. once plates were brought, you won't see them again . I ordered a spinach omelette. Menu listed.. eggs, spinach, peppers, onions & cheese. What I got was eggs, filled with peppers, onion, and very little spinach. On top of the eggs was cheese and the omelette drenched in red sauce, assuming salsa. I asked 3 times.. this is spinach omelette? It sounded like he said Spanish, which is what it looked like. He assured me it was spinach. Told him the menu didn't list salsa poured all over it . I was told it's spinach and away he went. We never saw another server again! I couldn't eat it as the salsa looked like it was 1/2 grease and my omelette was floating in it I had a slice of toast. I did re-check the menu....no mention of salsa or sauce. Basic breakfast of bacon & eggs is fine. Best to order Mexican food or prepare for your order to become a Mexican dish. I stopped in here recently because of recommendation by Burney School staff. It was a slow day/time when I went. The Waitress was prompt and very pleasant. I looked over menu and saw an item called Huarachas(sp). Looked tastey and so I ordered it. Had it with pork and they put on a homemade sauce, it was Delicious!!. Also, reasonable pricing. Overall, the experience here was nice. The food was very good and delicious. The wait time was a bit longer than expected, but okay. The staff weren't exactly friendly but not exactly unfriendly. We were glad to find this place to eat regardless. There weren't many open places for sit down open on a Monday, and this place was still likely the best option in town (that wasn't burgers, Subway, or pizza). We were visiting a nearby National Park and chose Burney as our home-base. Julio's Grill was one of the few restaurants in a town of 4,000 residents. We were seated promptly at 6pm (on a Fri). The restaurant was about 1/2 full with many servers. For some unknown reason, we had the most difficult time attracting the attention of the servers. After about 15 minutes of waiving our arms and calling the servers, we were finally able to place our order. Our food came out promptly, piping hot and well portioned. However, they lacked flavor, particularly their "famous" carnitas. The restaurant was probably a former 60's-style diner and the decor hasn't been updated since. We chosen Julio's Grill out of convenience. Had we known the sub-par quality of the dishes, we would've driven a few extra miles to explore other options. read more

The food is authentic freshly cooked to order. Perhaps too many signs that indicate extra money for chips and salsa etc. I understand people take advantage but there should be some leeway. We have had breakfast several times and enjoyed everything they've served. We eat at a lot of Mexican restaurants and they do a very good job at Julio's Prices are a little high but remember Burney is somewhat remote and more costly to have good delivered. read more

I went to this restaurant a couple of days ago. A couple of the locals thought it was a good choice, so after church we went. We were a party of 10 so we were seated in a back room. The room was comfortable. The place was not very big and it was more on the casual side. Sometimes when I have only been to a place once I can't remember all the details, so I hope my assessment of size is correct. Seven out of the ten people in the group had been to this restaurant several times before and they have always enjoyed the food. This was my first time and a couple of other people's first time too. I thought the food was pretty solid. I had a two item combination meal. I picked a cheese enchilada and a chile relleno with rice and black beans. They did bring complimentary chips and salsa. I could have had more chips but they had a lot of signs that they charge $6.99 for additional chips and salsa. I thought the young man was polite and it was kind of cute that he remembered what some of the regulars ordered on previous visits. I wouldn't mind trying it again. read more

We were staying overnight in Burney and saw this place which looked pretty good. Needless to say it wasn't. We were seated by the hostess and given a basket of chips. The waitress brought our drinks and took our order. After she served us we never saw her again until we went up to the cashwrap to pay. She was more interested in gossiping with the hostess then taking care of her customers. My burrito had no taste and some of the rice in it was uncooked. The red sauce had a strange smell. My mom had the green sauce on her burrito but it also had uncooked rice in it. Needless to say if we go up again we will avoid this establishment. I was being kind when I gave it one star. read more

If you are looking for authentic Mexican food this is the place to go! Everything on the menu is delicious and always pleasing to the eyes! They have the best salsa ever! The fajitas are amazing and I also love the chili verde. They now serve breakfast and have the best biscuits and gravy ever! They have breakfast burritos and I love their hash browns with the sausage gravy on it! Definitely consider eating here if you want food that is made with love and pride! I can't eat dairy so I find myself eating here often because they are so accommodating. They are very good at whatever substitutions I need to make. The al pastor meat is delicious and I love getting it in a "wet burrito" covered in green sauce. They also have really good (and spicy) house-made habanero salsa that you just have to ask for if you want things on the spicier side. read more

I come from a place with authentic Mexican restaurants on every block. My favorite thing to order at a Mexican restaurant is a carne asada torta. After moving up here to Burney, I thought I wouldn't be able to have another torta any time soon, until I ventured out and decided to try Julio's Grill... My only regret is that I didn't try them sooner. Their tortas are the best tortas I've ever had anywhere. Their pricing is fair and their portions are amazing. Their tortas are so good, so flavorful and fresh and delicious and I'm making myself hungry just describing them. I literally can't recommend this place enough. This is my go-to place when I am in dire need of comfort food. I hardly ever stay to eat in-person, opting to eat in my car or at home, but when I'm waiting for my food, I feel like the atmosphere is very good and comfortable. The only con of this place is the wait time. Sometimes they are fast and other times not so much, but honestly, knowing that an epic torta is coming my way makes the wait time seem like nothing. If you're driving through Burney or a local, stop here for food because it is so good and the perfect comfort food. 10/10 I HIGHLY recommend! Went here because my mom is a local. Sat done and was served chips and salsa. Chips were good but the salsa was excellent. Would have been perfect if it was a little spicier. One of the best authentic Mexican restaurant's I have ever been to. Excellent yummy food and service. I enjoyed a delicious chili verde burrito the first visit and had to go back the next day for breakfast. To my surprise they served pancakes as an option which are my fav, and they were the biggest, fluffiest most filing pancakes ever! compliments to the chef. My sister who was dining with me had a great breakfast burrito with the best potatoes she has ever had, seasoned perfectly. This place is hands down a great choice for dining or getting take out.
