I dropped my entire basket of clothes... where did the Laundry Land? At Laundry Land on 1st Ave,…read moreperhaps? I did my laundry here twice, as I often end up needing to do laundry when I'm in Manhattan on long stretches, which honestly involve sleeping in the car if Barbie's not with me, because I'm trying to save money. Overall it's a good spot to do laundry, but the prices have gone up significantly in the last few years, probably since the customers have become more hipster and more wealthy. **** I accidentally wrote 2 reviews for this... so here's the other. I dropped my laundry out of a plane while flying over Manhattan. So where did the Laundry Land? On 1st Avenue, of course. Right here... at this wash-n-dry facility. I used this laundromat on many occasions when I was sleeping in lower Manhattan for a short time (in my car, shut up don't judge), but these days I only come here if I'm traveling and desperately need some clean clothes, and honestly New York isn't the best place to do that. But it wasn't too horribly expensive considering it was in Manhattan, but I heard it's closed down. I hope it's not true, but I have a feeling it is true, and that would be a shame.

In addition to the convenience of the pickup and delivery, I especially appreciate the way they fold my clothes - very carefully and neatly. I never have to refold them, just put them away. I'll start off by saying laundry in Chelsea in general is not cheap. The standard dryer price is…read more$0.25/5min, and I haven't found anything cheaper within easily walkable distance. The employees here are quite nice and I haven't lost any clothing items thus far after using their drop off services for the last few months. Drop off is $8 for 4lb, then $1/additional pound. It hurts my soul a little to spend $20 on laundry in one go, but considering a large load is $9 and drying would probably run another $6, there's little difference between doing drop off versus self service if you do laundry in large batches. All in all no major complaints, it is laundry after all.

I asked if they were chemical free + fragrance free, you'd think that would be the case with organic in the name. I was told yes, yet my clothes came back reeking of strong perfume smell kind of like you'd get if you used gain detergent. the smell was so strong, even after I soaked a pair of socks in vinegar for an hour I could still smell it! Could smell it on my hands after washing them. It gave me a headache. I'm talking strong. They offered to redo the clothes for free, OK fine, but then they delivered them to the wrong building! Luckily that was quickly corrected but the worst part is they consider 12 blocks to be long distance. (They have another location 7 blocks from me so I don't know why they didn't send it there, but I didn't realize 12 blocks is considered a lot. I was told delivery and pick up were free). Turns out someone wrote my address down wrong, yet when another person called me to confirm the correct address, they never mentioned an extra charge because I'm too far away (since when is 12 blocks far)? Yet when I get the laundry back, they have added several pounds to the receipt. I knew the clothes couldn't possibly weigh that much bc I weighed them myself before they washed em. I was told the extra lbs were added to make up for the distance. How is this OK?! You're just adding pounds without telling the customer that's what you're doing. The receipt doesn't indicate an extra charge for distance traveled. The receipt simply indicates that the clothes weighed a certain number of pounds. Deceptive! Luckily when I caught this and complained, they refunded me the cost they'd added for the extra lbs. I am so stressed by this experience. I will probably never send my laundry out again. I normally do it in my bldg but wanted to treat myself bc my basement is gross. Some treat! Also, the clothes still have a fragrance smell. It's more subtle now, but they're not scent-less - especially the towels. So even after the second washing I have to rewash these. Awful service. 3 major mistakes made on just 2 bags of wash and fold. Hard pass.

ridiculously overpriced (smallest machines are $6 dollars and majority of machines range from…read more$10-13 per load) especially considering that half the machines are either always out of service or reserved for their wash-and-fold business. dryers never work half the time either and I often pull out my clothes soaking wet after 45 minutes on high heat. once when myself and other people complained about this the owner went to check the lint traps on all the machines and they were all full (as if they haven't been emptied for days) despite it only being a couple of hours after they opened. The staff is also incredibly rude - they have told me to take all my stuff out of a machine just after loading it because they wanted to use that one, and somehow no matter where you stand you are in their way and they make sure to let you know they aren't happy about it. This place takes advantage of the fact that they are the only self service laundromat in the area and they exploit their customers. If you have the luxury of doing your laundry elsewhere definitely do so.
