I needed, well actually desperately wanted, an updo to attend a military ball this past April. I don't know the first thing about updos so I did what anyone in my position would do: clip out ideal hairstyles from random magazines and hope they can do something similar. I can't remember the name of the lady who did my hair, but when I called it seemed as if they have someone who specifically handles updos. I loved my hair and my evening was wonderful! I had shorter hair back then - the type that is at an awkward stage of growing out from that super short and uneven hair length to hopefully one day being long. I was alarmed that I could get a same day appointment on a Saturday. But I though whatever I want something simple. I literally almost turned around when I saw the shop front. It's just ugly. While my hair cut by Charlene turned out fine. Granted it was a super easy cut just a trim and some long layers. I won't be going back. Charlene was really sweet and I was happy with her service. She was super careful too make sure my cut was up to my satisfaction. She did exactly what I wanted. My hair was super soft and healthy when she was done. The Shampoo station was filled with clunky bottles over filling the back area and stained towels. She gave me a cold shampoo. Her station just looked cheap and badly decorated with dust everywhere and ugly labels everywhere. She was answering calls during my appointment. I just was turned off by the decor and clutter. It's very close to CSUN so that's very convenient and there's plenty of fast food places and a yogurt stand near it if you want to grad a bite before or after you eat. This is my first year living in the valley, so didn't know anyone who I could trust with my hair. I have curly hair and when it comes to cutting my hair, I start stressing lol. Based on yelp reviews I decided to make an appointment for a haircut with Charlene. She's super nice (She took me in the same day I called) and got my hair as close to the reference pic I brought. She even curled the ends to match it. Like a previous reviewer said, the salon does not look impressive in the front, but it's clean and well maintained inside. There are some ghetto 90s posters of hairstyles on the wall, but don't mind those. It's all about if the hairdresser can do their job well, and Charlene did. For a good and affordable haircut, I suggest coming here. I think CSUN students get a discount as well. (not sure though). This was my first time going to this salon and my experience was beyond amazing! I don't typically go to salons often because stylists don't listen to me and somewhat do what they want with my hair. I always end up having a terrible experience and hating my hair. However, I was in a desperate need of a haircut and I walked in on a Thursday afternoon with no appointment. A woman named Akilah helped me and advised me about the wait times. I only waited about 15-20 minutes, which is not bad considering I was a walk-in :) I got the full wash, cut and style for $35 and to be honest, that is a STEAL. A lot of places I've called in the valley charge upwards to $50 for just a cut. Akilah worked with me to get the exact cut that I wanted. I showed her a few pictures of what I wanted and she made sure she was getting it right by asking my thorough questions, which I hella appreciate because stylists never listen to me (lol). Even when I wasn't completely pleased with it during the process, she was still patient with me and cut more to ensure I got the cut I wanted. I can't believe I haven't reviewed Final Touch (which in my head, I keep calling "Perfect Touch", so maybe a name change for the business is in order?)! A few months ago, I was ready for a change; I was tired of going to the mall for an affordable decent cut and wanted someone who would actually *listen* to what I wanted. Thank you, other Yelpsters, because Final Touch, Charlene, and the other women there are gems. You know the kind of salon you see in the movies? Like in Steel Magnolias? This is that kind of place. I've never felt comfortable getting my hair cut ever, anywhere. Until here. I liked Charlene and Final Touch so much I brought my daughter (17) there to get her hair colored and cut, and she likes it, too. So much in fact, she made an appointment for her boyfriend with Charlene! Charlene who truly is one of those special women who makes everyone feel at home. She listens. Bring a picture if you're bad at describing like I am, she'll adapt it to your hair type & looks. I haven't been happier in a long time--and my hair looks fine growing out, too. I've been asking around for good places to go to for a haircut and I was highly recommended by friends to go here. At first I was a bit hesitant considering it was very hidden and not too impressive from the outside ("hole in a wall"?), but you should never judge a book by its cover. Although small, the inside was surprisingly well-maintained and the stylists were very accommodating. I'd say the one major thing that really set me on being a continuing customer would be the quality of the work (I suggest you ask for Charlene, she does mine and my boyfriend's hair). I was very pleased to see that she really focuses on DETAIL work and my boyfriend admitted that this is the best place he's been to so far. All in all, I'd recommend this place and I'm planning to take my mom here sometime soon... I might even go for hair color (I'll update this when I get that done). read more

Though when I went I suppose to have a specific hairstylist but she immediately saw me when I addressed her and passed me on to someone else. The other lady did NOT listen to me at all. I first told her I did not want too short of hair but she already started shaving the sides of my hair and it was wayyyyyy to short. Then I asked several times that when she straightens my hair that it have a heat protection serum or some product so it doesn't burn or dry out, but she kept saying she would do it afterward, but she never did. I came here and got my haircut with Charlene because of the amazing reviews she had gotten and the inexpensive price of $22 (without tip), where I had been tired of paying a regular $50 including tip. I wanted to see if I could save some extra cash and still be happy with my cut... Sadly I found that I couldn't. I was very disappointed with the final result and left unhappy. I came in for a simple trim, trimming my all over length and asked for no more than 1 inch cut (where she cut at LEAST 3 inches), I also asked for my straight across bangs to be trimmed with no thinning just trimmed so that weren't in my eyes (she trimmed them shorter than what I had asked for and the worst part... They were NOTICEABLY CUT SIDEWAYS... When I left you could see that they slanted being shorter on the left and going longer as they went to the right. I was so upset when I left I actually went home and fixed it MYSELF. I hadn't gotten a cut this bad since I was about 15 and I got it cut at the mall. I will NEVER try to find a cheaper alternative than the $50 I pay at Madison Avenue Salon is worth every penny. I never even notice a difference in my length when I leave getting a haircut with Amy at M.A.S. Even though Charlene told me she had been cutting hair for 30, does not mean she knows how to cut up to current styles and techniques today. I would not recommended this to anyone, even though she was a very nice and sweet lady. read more

She gave me concrete answers to all my hair questions. She was nice, gentle and made my hair look healthy and full again! Loved my first experience there. I got my hair cut by Charlene. I was very anxious because I was chopping off over 6 inches of hair but she made me feel at ease. She understood what I wanted perfectly and styled it just the way I wanted. She also gave me pointers on how I can work with it at home. She did not try to sell me any salon products though I gave her plenty of opportunities with my curious questions on hair products. She did not try to make me get other unnecessary services either. I called for in need of a last minute, desperately needed hair coloring. Akilah was so gracious, able to fit me in the same afternoon. When I arrived, she and Vicki, the manicurist, were so friendly, I was immediately put at ease. Akilah did a wonderful job of coloring and styling my hair.
