I'm still full from a malt I had here in 2002. Their BLTs are holy mountains of bacon. Probably a good place to eat after a marathon. read more

A tried and true STL staple. Not only do they have the most delicious ice cream, milkshakes and candy but good food to boot! My favorite is the Turkey Bacon Melt and side salad. Do not let the name fool you, the side salad is a good portion. Come during the week for dinner, it is not crazy busy like they r on the weekends or for lunch. And make sure to try the Hot Fudge Sundae!! read more

Crown Candy Kitchen - Yummy ice cream! - Candy Stores Near Me - St. Louis, Missouri

While researching unusual places to visit while in STL, I stumbled upon a website highlighting Crown Candy Kitchen. I would like to forewarn you that this post is only for candy purchasing as we did not allot enough time to experience a sit-down lunch. Cool fact: Crown Candy Kitchen is celebrating their 100th year this year! Another cool fact: I don't think they've done any sort of renovating since then. I don't mean that in a bad way, either. Being from KC, I don't know much about the area CCK is located in but it didn't seem very... happenin'. It was pretty deserted, actually. ANYWAY. We arrived around 11am and the line was out the door! We hadn't planned on eating lunch there so we bypassed the line to get to the candy counter. Good thing neither of us have a problem with personal space because it was definitely a tight squeeze to place an order. It was just so crowded; a testament to the great food and treats that this little store had for us! I got a chocolate malt and oreo cookies dipped in chocolate (yes it's exactly as good as it sounds) and some white chocolate covered peanut butter cups *swoon*. The service wasn't the best I've ever had, but I understand they were busy and the guests weren't exactly the best at making quick and final decisions. The next time we come through STL, we will definitely make time to grab a bite to eat. I spotted a BLT in my peripheral vision that looked like heaven on a plate. Keep it up, Crown Candy Kitchen! Definitely check out this diamond in the rough! read more

Always a good malt unless the guy who makes the sandwiches make them then they don't taste the same. I told him it was off but he didn't care. If he's working mall machine I would just leave but typically always good. Candy prices are too expensive and I never tried the food but always love malts read more

I think this is a "must" do place, whether visiting St. Louis or especially if you've lived here all your life and never been! The BLT is overwhelming, but if you are a bacon lover...you can do it!! I like the Chili Dog just as well. Plain chips are the side, but the sandwiches are so big you would never miss them. Hate to admit I am not a big fan of the malts/shakes, but they are huge as well so if you love 'em, you won't be disappointed. On my last visit I was a little turned off by lack of cleanliness. The booth really needed a major cleaning over all and two of the four water glasses at our table had lip marks from the last customers-YUK! They were extremely busy, but after hours would be a great opportunity for a thorough cleaning...you can be old and original without the dirt and grime. Please check the dishwasher, someone used the restroom in our party and saw the guy in back hand washing dishes- yikes! No matter how much I like the place, it's gotta be cleaner on my next visit! read more

Amazing! Saw it on mvf and had to try it while in St Louis. Malts are amazing. Challenge is crazy. One malt is plenty! read more

Awesome experience. The place is small and popular so it may be hard to find seating for groups larger then 4. I obviously had their milk shake and BLT.... absolutely fantastic. If i could eat at this place weekly and not gain weight i would. The BLT is made right with a ton of bacon and fresh bread and veggies. The shake was even better because its huge and tasteful... and yes they give you the left overs in the metal cup. I still considered this a gem of STL because not many people take the time to visit and its to bad because its a great place to enjoy. read more

My daughter and I had this thing we did. Sometimes on a weekend we would drive to St. Louis and eat at Pappy's and then afterwards we would go to Crown Candy Kitchen. The ice cream and shakes are so good. We started this after we watched the show Man Vs Food. He hit it right when he picked these two places in St. Louis. One of the times at Crown Candy I was paying the bill and the guy told my daughter to pick a piece of candy for free. so she did. and I decided to get y other two kids something and got my money out and he told me to just have them for free also. Just a great place. Very nice people. You will enjoy this place. read more

If you are visiting Saint Louis, please go to this place. Wonderful homemade ice cream, irresistible chocolate, and you can have lunch. But, be patient, because has a big line, however it is pity. read more

OH GOOD SWEET LORD. This is what I was thinking when the waitress plunked my BLT down in front of me. Let's just start by saying I LOVE me some BLT. I order them out a lot and appreciate the variations restaurants use to keep it interesting (Sourdough bread, fried green tomatoes, peppered bacon, etc) When I first saw it on the menu, for $8, I thought certainly this sandwich will have some sort of creative twist, or something to command this price.....Nope. Just regular old white bread, Miracle Whip, iceberg lettuce, and only the biggest pile of bacon I have ever seen on a sandwich in my life! This thing had to have a pound of bacon on it EASY. Price justified. Sometimes simple is good. And that BLT, holy crap was it awesome! Wow wow wow. Now, you may have heard Crown also has ice cream and candy. Yes, yes they do. I'm not much of an ice cream person but their shakes, malts, and handmade ice cream are awesome too. I had some Oreo ice cream that was not just vanilla with chunks of Oreo in it. The cookies were incorporated so well that the ice cream was actually a light grey color. Totally awesome and completely worth the wait. read more

I had heard many great things about this place so I had to check it out. Upon walking inside I didn't think too much of it. Smaller place with tight seating and a line of people waiting to be seated. All in all I figured that this place must be good for this kind of a line and all in all I was correct!! When we were seated we ordered the chocolate banana malt. Malts were being made left and right like they were going out of style and upon tasting this malt i understood why! no comparison to any fast food chain shake. This malt is the real deal, so thick and tasty I started to realize why this place was so loved. We ordered lunch and it was great as well! The staff was friendly, service was great as well. The price is great too! Perfect place for lunch anytime! My grandma told me you can get chocolate monkeys here around Easter and I think I'm going to have to check it out for myself. See you soon Crown Candy! read more

Some of my friends and I visited Crown Candy in the evening one night to try there Ice Cream and we have read many great things about Crown. When we arrived the first thing we were told was that we should bu whatever we where going to buy and then leave. I asked why and the gentleman at the counter told me that when it gets dark around Crown Candy that it becomes unsafe, so we bought and left. I ended up buying a banana and chocolate shake I wasn't overly impressed with there shake I have had much better. Anyways I did try it during the day with another friend of mine and just got a scope of require ice cream and ate it in the care as all the chairs were full, it is a much different feeling, day and night. The ice cream by itself is OK. The place is OK and its good to have a place like this in a city, as its a food landmark. read more

Awesome Oreo shake and really neat place to visit. Great candy selections. I got the heart stopper blt and it was good but hard to eat, needs to be on thicker bread I think. You can't go wrong with bacon though! The waitstaff is very nice but very busy. I was there alone and it still took an hour to get in and out for just a sandwich and shake. read more

We saw this on Man versus Food and decided to come while we were in St Louis for a wedding. We came on a Friday night in February at 8:30pm and it was pretty dead. We were a little hungry so we shared a roast beef and cheese sandwich. It doesn't sound very special but it was so good! Perfectly melty cheese and warm roast beef that was tasted like it came from a roast. We both had huge sundaes that were so good. I had the crown sundae with hot fudge and caramel. My fiance had black cherry ice cream with hot fudge. The fudge was sticky and warm and delicious. The place itself seems like it's kind of in the middle of nowhere but hey, what do I know about St Louis? Definitely worth a trip. I can bet it's crowded in the summer. read more

I wanted to really give this place 5 stars. And probably if I hadn't gone on a busy holiday baseball game weekend - or maybe not - I would have. Here is the thing - we got there 10 minutes before opening on a weekend. It was hot. It was super sunny. And since we weren't in the 1st round of seating - we had to wait to get in the door even until the 1st rounders got up to leave. The place doesn't sit but maybe 2 dozen people. And the two tops don't hold today's super sized people very well. This place is a throwback to a bygone era where people were considerably less large. It's in a sketchy at best hood north side stl. I can't say I felt real easy there. And once we did get seated - I felt the eyes of hungry hot cranky people adults and kids boring into the back of my head while I tried to wolf down the bacon sammich. Which was over a pound of bacon. With a small glass of water and a small cup of iced tea which didn't get refilled. The sammich was 8.99. And it was an awesome sammich. Which I never ever have to feel like a competitive eater to consume again. The chocolate malt my dining partner has was the "best he'd ever has". It was awesome. Served in a large metal cup with a fountain glass to pour into. Easy to share. But again had to wolf it down. Go on a week night. Or a week day. Stop and savor the bacon. I spent the rest of the day in some sort of gastro distress that started with rapid consumption of only half my sammich. And I regret it. This place is amazing. Just not when you wait in the heat to then be rushed through a meal that is so fun it is painful to rush through. If you are a larger person - expect to be shoe horned into your booth. It's not really handicapped accessible when crowded. Don't expect a cheerful attentive server - she was all business. I will go back - but probably not in the dark. read more

After watching the St. Louis episode of "Man Vs Food" a few too many times, I at long last made my journey over to Crown Candy on a Saturday afternoon to see what the fuss was all about. Not surprisingly, there was a huge line when I got there, so I knew it was going to be pretty amazing. Bandmates and I decided we didn't want to wait, so we actually just walked in, and discovered there was an entirely separate area for carry out orders! The one downfall of Crown Candy is the limited seating, so we were perfectly content to get our orders without having to wait in line, and eat back at home. Keep that in mind if you do not want to wait 40+ mins to dine in. I wanted the full experience, so I went with their famous BLT, and a chocolate milkshake. Let me just say this: the BLT lives up to its reputation (think it was voted one of the best in the country?) You will get so much bacon stuffed between two pieces of bread that you just might get the meat sweats trying to finish it. The milkshake is really rich as well. Try theirs, and then try one from any other restaurant, and you'll never see milkshakes the same way again. Definitely a perfect ten, in my book. Here's hoping Crown Candy can someday get a second location! read more

They really do know how to eat in the Midwest, as evidenced by giant waistlines and giant serving sizes. Case in point.....the BLT at Crown Candy that proves there IS such a thing as too much bacon.....I had to take the second half home!! You must see my uploaded photo to truly appreciate this genius creation. Wash it down with a ridiculous 24 ounce malt (OMG, they have marshmallow.....my fave!). Make sure to follow with a chaser of Lipitor® or your favorite statin. And clear the rest of your day for a nap and general lounging. read more

Crown Candy Kitchen - Thought there was no such thing as too much bacon??? Crown Candy will prove you wrong. - Candy Stores Near Me - St. Louis, Missouri

have been eating at Crown Candy for years & every trip has been great. The popularity of this establishment has grown since I began eating here so maybe the lines have gotten longer & the service takes a little more time but the end result is completely worth it. My best advice is to keep it simple. The menu hasn't changed in a VERY long time so expect a retro diner-type meal, nothing flashy or over the top. A grilled cheese or BLT with a Banana milkshake is awe-some. Make sure to get some candy on the way out. I'm SO glad this place is booming in North City. read more

Best place in St. Louis Mo. To get your ice cream, candies, and what were your dreams!

The food was good. I tried their chocolate banana malt milkshake. It is HUGE!! It takes 3 sundae glasses to finish! I would definitely come back for that. Note: If you finish 5 of their milkshakes within 30 minutes, the shakes are supposedly free, & you get immortalized on their plaque for doing so. I will add a picture when I get home. The servers are very nice, & the place has an old school feel to it. read more

This place is hyped as one of the best places in St Louis. They are located in an interesting part of town. The history of the story is great. Tried a few chocolates and malt balls which were great. Unfortunately their ice cream and shakes were not that great compared to others we've had. read more

Hand-Dipped confections, Man-sized sandwiches & a chocolate malt that'll make you cry for Mama! Set aside some time so you can take in the whole experience. Grab your favorite Gal & your best Bud. Take 'em down to Crown Candy for a soda-pop & a good ole' fashioned American sandwich, top it off real ice cream sundae or a float, see what it was like when life wasn't in such a hurry to pass you by. They don't make 'em like this no more. There's a line out the door for a reason, stop the car & go in. read more

My grandma used to live down the road from here growing up. She always raved about this place. A couple years ago my grandma, my mom and me went down here and I got the BLT sandwich and I got a chocolate malt. By far the best sandwich and malt I ever had. Fair warning: the BLT has a MASSIVE amount of bacon on it! But it's so good!!! Can't pass this place up! Highly recommend! read more

If you remember and loved the old soda fountain restaurant, you can find it at Crown Candy Kitchen. It is small but quaint. Located in a less than desirable neighborhood; However, when we visited, there were patrol officers visible. Actually two officers were eating in the booth across from us. Once we finished enjoying the restaurant nostalgia, it's was time to get down to the business of ordering. We had heard so much about the Heart Stopping BLT we didn't even study the menu, BLT it was, and of course a chocolate milkshake too. We definitely should have split the sandwich it had to be at least 1/2 lb. of bacon. After drinking the most Delicious Milkshake Ever, I couldn't even begin to eat the sandwich. It went home to be enjoyed for lunch and dinner the next day. read more

I love their shakes! Also, they have the best BLT ever

Have again: the BLT is fantastic, of course. The chocolate milkshake, however, was not as good as previous visits because it was too liquidy - as though it was made with too much milk. I took a taxi here from downtown, but walked back. read more

It was an eclectic, must-see, sort of place where you have to wait in line to get in the door and it is very much about the atmosphere as opposed to the food. On that note, their shakes/malts/sundaes are amazing. Apparently this seasonal ice cream flavor in the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, so I will have to make another trip back to indulge in that. read more

One of my favorite places in St Louis. Thanks for another great time, friendly service, delicious food.

Here it is, get the ice cream! You won't regret how wonderful it taste. The atmosphere is old school classic diner. But wait, there's more! Crown Candy has the most amazingly big but simplistically basic BLT in the Lou. This sandwich is huge. A heart attach between two white slices of bread. Treat yourself especially if you are a bacon lover. read more

I stopped in at Crown partially due to a sudden craving for something sweet but also due to the fact that I wanted to check out the place from the Man vs Food Challenge. The place isnt in the greatest location - and the only parking I found was metered parking. Since I didnt have any change on me - i dashed in for my malt and kept an eye an the car. Its a tiny place, but i loved the old-timey decor and phone booth. The "Candy" part of Crown Candy Kitchen was lacking and pretty expensive compared to other stores. I assumed that their main push was their malts anyways so oh well. I ordered a peanut butter malt from the surly guy at the counter - yeah the staff at this place wasnt friendly in the least bit - but that wasnt the shocker: my apparantly custom malt cost over $6!!! WTH? I dont think chain shakes even cost that much wow! Anyways i grabbed that giant malt and ran back to the car before i got a ticket or something and drove off on my way to Illinois. I took a sip of the malt and it was really one of the most amazing malts ive had - it was definitely peanut buttery and chocolately without being super sweet and overwhelming - it was really great - i just dont think that the cost and my overall experience would bring me back to this place next time im in St Louis read more

We went here to get ice cream after seeing this place on "Man vs Food" - it's not in the ritzy part of town but it's not in the most ghetto part of town either (from the looks of it). Services was pretty good - the waitress got the job done We both got sundaes and there were a good size serving and very good. We may be going back to try the food. I would recommend Crown Candy Kitchen just based on the ice cream I ordered. read more

Came here around 4:00 in the afternoon on a Saturday and the line was long! For both take out and dine in! Got some milk chocolate malt balls and dark chocolate covered espresso beans to munch on while waiting. It cost me about $3.00 to get a quarter pound but if you get a pound then it's going to be around $12.00. Although I am a little sad that they didn't have the molasses puffs, I want to go back right now and get some more of those malt balls because they are incredible! I ordered the Swiss Chocolate Sundae and my hubby got the Vanilla Malt for $4.79 each. Both were super tasty and just the right amout of sweetness. The ice cream itself was very rich and creamy, not overwhelming at all. You will be able to tell that it is the good homemade stuff! Serving was ginormous though, but I guess we just got it all in one helping since we got it to go. We could barely finish it, so good thing that at this time we didn't order the infamous Heart Stopping BLT. Crown Candy Kitchen definitely deserves to be an STL staple, will be coming back here soon! read more
