My car was low in refrigerant (which is what I figured), but the mechanic ran all the appropriate tests to make sure I didn't have a leak or damaged parts. As he was working on my car, he was talking me through exactly what he was doing. This helped me feel reassured that he wasn't breaking other parts of my car. Overall, I had an awesome experience and my AC is definitely working again. The price was a bit steep, but given the rarity in finding a store that would service cars that only use R-12 refrigerant, I think the price was right. I definitely recommend this place!

Knowing it's not an $800 job we brought it home and i removed the starter. Brought the starter up to an Autozone to have it bench tested and the starter is perfectly fine across all tests.
