We wore rain boots to keep our feet from getting muddy/sandy. Wear a hat, apply sunscreen and / or bug spray & pick until your heart is content. Once you get back from the field, you get your berries weighed, you pay & you're all set. They have bathrooms in the parking area, plenty of picnic tables, & accept credit cards for payment.

Just Picked reminded me not only of the farm stands we visited as kids, but also it brought back memories of our Sunday rides out to the country when we were kids. Boley Farm on 151st Street in Orland Park is now run by a new person who bought out the old operators, but he just seems to be getting up to speed and the selection wasn't as broad ... hence the search for a new stand ... and I think we found it in Just Picked. We stopped in at Just Picked on 171st Street in Tinley Park on a weekday and they had a very nice selection. We have driven by this place dozens of times over the years but never stopped in ... glad we did this time. While the selection looks relatively small as you drive by, once you stop in and look around you'll be more impressed with the variety and quality. This is an everyday kind of farm stand during the Summer and Fall, and the people running it were very nice. The owner (Tom) grows much of what is sold on his farm just outside Kankakee ... thus you get fresh, local-grown FFV everyday where the stock is refreshed daily. All the FFV ... and oftentimes flowers ... are presented outside under an awning ... the barn is for his work equipment and other stock. If you are in the market for a farm stand, you have to give this place a try.

My family had a great time at Keller's Farmstand in Oswego. We came for apple picking and it was…read moreour first time on the farm. Parking was easy (free, and roped off sections on gravel/dirt and there were greeters who welcomed folks at the entryway and helped point people to the direction they want to go (concessions - straight ahead; apple picking - to your left; ticketed activities - to the right). I had looked at their website beforehand to check their apple varieties available for picking and when we arrived, there was pleasantly more available than I was expecting (all of this is seasonal of course and dependent on Keller's and lots of other factors). We were two adults, two grandparents, and one toddler. Kids under 4 are free. You must purchase a plastic tote as your entry ticket, and we opted for the 1/4 peck (approx 3 lbs of apples) at $11 each. We had a blast wandering the orchard and there were plenty of signage and staff located at different sections to help answer any questions. We really liked the Rosalee apples! After we wandered and picked and ate as we went, we got some hotdogs, cider donuts, a pretzel & cheese, a cider slushie, and kettle corn from the concessions stand. We relaxed at some picnic tables (uncovered, no shade) which was fine for us if you don't mind being in the sun. There is a shaded picnic bench area, but only available if you purchase tickets to the "farmland" activities area. There is also a pumpkin patch to bring home your pumpkin(s) of choice but we didn't get a chance to check out the patch while we were there. Heads up, the bathroom situation is port-o-potty's only so plan accordingly. Some tips would be to bring a wagon or a stroller that you don't mind pulling across fallen apples, damp grass, mud/dirt, etc. Or, bring a bag to keep your stuff in, like a water bottle or snacks/food if you plan to picnic. Rain boots for kids would be a good idea. Pets are not allowed. All in all, we had an amazing time and would love to come back soon. Their staff are really friendly, the prices are fair, and it's a great weekend family-friendly activity. Sit on the giant red Adirondack chair or take a photo in front of their butterfly painting on the side of their barn. Five shining stars for Keller's Farmstand.

I have gone here for over 20 years, and during most visits I have not been treated well. The ladies have been unhelpful, or closed-mouthed when answering my questions, and just simply unfriendly. Perhaps they are just over-worked or tired. At least that's how I justified their off-handed treatment of me, and my continued patronage over the years. So I put up with a fleeting moment of mistreatment. But today, that same old bad attitude appeared after I asked a simple question during my visit, that could've been answered more directly & easily. I questioned myself why do I even bother, especially when their produce isn't superior to other places I can go, to get farm fresh produce. There are more farmer's markets around, such as McDonald's Farm at Knoch Knolls Park in Naperville. Maybe my visits were wrapped in (wannabe) nostalgia, or due to convenience of location. Whatever, today I hit the top of my tolerance for their rude-ish treatment. This decision should have been made after an earlier visit this summer when a cashier looked at me crazy because I did not leave an electronically-produced request for a tip. For what?? Standing there just doing your job ringing up an order??? And lastly, their produce isn't the tastiest, and is really overpriced in comparison to other places around. I guess I kind of felt sorry & wanted to support the place. But no more. I am finally done. Fed up and moving on. Mayneland Farm is no longer an option for me.
