Crossfit Casco Bay

Knowledgeable and caring coaching staff and an amazing facility!…read more I'm the director of an organization that provides adaptive and inclusive fitness training for coaches and medical professionals. CrossFit Casco Bay was a host for our seminar and would be my choice of gyms if I lived in the Portland, Maine area. The gym facility is well equipped with just about any type of training aid you could ever hope for.  The gym is clean, organized, and is very spacious for a functional fitness style facility.  There's showers and plenty of parking out front.  The space used to be a garage and so it has these amazing garage doors that let in a ton of natural light and open up to allow fresh air flow. These people just get it!  They're caring and easily connect with their clients.  They also are highly educated in fitness training and continue to pursue more knowledge to enable them to pass that onto their members.  This is the gym I use when traveling to the area and if I lived anywhere near Portland, I would definitely be a member!  Go check them out!

Wasn't the best welcome anyone in my group has ever received dropping into another gym. Our…read morewelcome, after we declared we were dropping in, was "I can see that". From there, it was nothing but a series of shaming, despite our efforts to reach out to the gym ahead of time. 1. It is not our fault your website is misleading. We filled out the "drop in" form, but nothing populated from it. 2. It is not our fault you don't have paper waivers on hand. 3. We could have happily tended to the waiver and payment at the end of class. 4. Had you looked like you were open, we wouldn't have sat in the car for 10 minutes prior to coming in. 5. People showed up after us, who were happily welcomed in, though I assume they were members. Despite, being timely shouldn't be selective. We never caught the name of the coach, because she didn't take the time to introduce herself. As a coach myself, this is poor PR. First impressions are everything; and had I not been eager for a workout, I would have turned around and left. I will be seeking alternative gyms next time I come to town. Despite these flaws, the workout was a good one and there were a handful of members that made the effort to interact with my group and myself. Community is everything, and if nothing else, they seem like they have a good one going.

The partner WOD's were killer but very doable. The coaches were friendly and answered all questions. Very reasonable pricing. I'm on vacation for a month and signed up for the month and very happy with the 3 times I went so far this past week. Looking forward to the rest of the month. They also have a great front area that my almost 5 year old stays and colors/has her ipad she can occupy herself. The community there also all takes the chance to welcome you and introduce themselves which was very nice. Thank you Jamie, Megan, & crew!

This Crossfit "box" ( ie gym) has it's act together…read more Located on a long, meandering hill outside Ellsworth, Crossfit Acadia's physical presence is small. The light blue pole building is as unassuming as most Crossfit boxes are. What makes this place special are the people who enter its doors. Owners Nick and Ursula both welcomed me, a travelling stranger, as warmly as all their local athletes. Both have a heart for Crossfit - both in the mechanics of doing tough workouts well and in building the sense of community that can really set this style of fitness apart from almost all others. Crossfit is tough. Sometimes very tough. To quote Crossfit Manayunk's video (search it on youtube): "sometimes you will give 110% and it just won't be enough". I have no doubt that at this box the trainers would be right there with you. Nobody is left to flounder here. I've never had a bad visit to a box but I can honestly say that my exploration of Crossfit Acadia was one of the best. The physical establishment is appealing (how do they fit so many Concept 2 rowers in that small space?), the coaches skilled and the customer/athletes friendly and welcoming. Humans of any fitness level can benefit from Crossfit and if you are fortunate enough to live within driving distance of this affiliate - I highly recommend you consider stopping by. Do it and you will never be mediocre again!

I submitted an inquiry about learning more about Beacon and heard back within the same day and was able to meet the owner and get an assessment scheduled quickly. After the assessment, I jumped right into classes and loved it. Well out-fitted, a great community of friendly and motivating members, and awesome coaches -- Beacon has it all! I think what I appreciated the most about Beacon is the team's attitude towards fitness; fitness can enrich your life and make living your life easier and better. After doing CrossFit for years at a previous box, I was so used to a culture of just wanting to throw around as much weight as possible with no regard to form and listening to my body. At Beacon, I felt supported to really focus on how to properly move my body, how to best challenge my body, and really how to have fun with CrossFit again. Thanks for such a great five weeks, Beacon, I hope I'll be able to come back again soon!

My coach/trainer, Seth, is amazingly helpful and patient in teaching me how to do handstands against the wall (and eventually without the wall). He has a very supportive, encouraging, easy-going personality that really motivates me to do my best. He routinely asks me what moves I want to work on, and we have already covered rope climbs and handstand preps, to name a few. I really enjoy the small group vibe as it gives us a chance to get to know each other better, and we have more time with our coach than we would in a regular CrossFit class. Seth has helped me get to the point where I feel like I can just jump into a regular CrossFit class whenever I want. I'm already almost up to a PR in deadlifts and it has only been a few months (and I took over a year off). It is a bit pricey (I'm paying $240 for 8 classes a month), but I still think it is worth it. You really are getting a lot of time with the coach, even in the small group setting. Highly recommended.
