CrossFit Acadia is VERY welcoming. They modify and help teach specific movements and push you. It hs been one of the best workouts I've had in a while. The partner WOD's were killer but very doable. The coaches were friendly and answered all questions. Very reasonable pricing. I'm on vacation for a month and signed up for the month and very happy with the 3 times I went so far this past week. Looking forward to the rest of the month. They also have a great front area that my almost 5 year old stays and colors/has her ipad she can occupy herself. This Crossfit "box" ( ie gym) has it's act together. Located on a long, meandering hill outside Ellsworth, Crossfit Acadia's physical presence is small. The light blue pole building is as unassuming as most Crossfit boxes are. What makes this place special are the people who enter its doors. Owners Nick and Ursula both welcomed me, a travelling stranger, as warmly as all their local athletes. Both have a heart for Crossfit - both in the mechanics of doing tough workouts well and in building the sense of community that can really set this style of fitness apart from almost all others. Crossfit is tough. Sometimes very tough. To quote Crossfit Manayunk's video (search it on youtube): "sometimes you will give 110% and it just won't be enough". I have no doubt that at this box the trainers would be right there with you. Nobody is left to flounder here. I've never had a bad visit to a box but I can honestly say that my exploration of Crossfit Acadia was one of the best. The physical establishment is appealing (how do they fit so many Concept 2 rowers in that small space?), the coaches skilled and the customer/athletes friendly and welcoming. Humans of any fitness level can benefit from Crossfit and if you are fortunate enough to live within driving distance of this affiliate - I highly recommend you consider stopping by. After a week and a half off of CrossFit, I really needed my fix. While vacationing with the family in Maine again as we have every other year for the past 10, I was pleasantly surprised to see CrossFit Acadia on the side of the road. It took a few days to find the time to make a drop in workout and I'm very glad I did. I made an 8AM Thursday, and joined owner Ursula and 3 other members. All introduced themselves to me and I was introduced prior to the warmup. Made me feel quite welcome, and Ursula was very happy to see a "new" member come through the door. The two dogs made themselves known to me too...the new guy will pet me and we will lick him! Started with a warmup with several movements some of which I was not familiar with but Ursula was more than happy to demonstrate. Moved into 3x Bench Press and the time moved quickly. WOD today was 1/2 Murph - bookend 800m run, 50 pull-ups, 100 push-ups and 150 squats. Two members went all out with a weight vest! I did not make the 15 minute cutoff, but I finished in 25:38 to a round of "Good job" and "Nice work!" Felt good! CrossFit is always scalable to your abilities. You use the weight that works for you, use bands for pull-ups, lower boxes for jumping; whatever works best for you. I felt extremely comfortable at CrossFit Acadia and even got some WOD reminders to keep good form from Ursula. Ursula has a great gym which already has expanded in the 2 years she has been open. You'll feel that you'll get the individual instruction you need and the members I met were very friendly. No egos here! Lastly, I wanted to buy a shirt but CrossFit Acadia did not have my size. My wife and I were visiting Bar Harbor from Providence and were excited to find a crossfit gym but was worried that the trip from the SE Harbor to Ellsworth might be a bit long. Believe me, it's not and the trainer/owner Nick made it totally worth the trip. The workout was great, the space was nice and open and both my wife and I got great feedback and helpful tips on form and the movements, and overall Nick was just a very open and welcoming person, and took away any anxiety of working out at a new place. I, like the previous reviewer, have visited a few boxes in both the US and Canada, and have really liked them all, but like the previous reviewer, my wife and I felt this was one of the best Crossfit's we had visited! It is totally worth the drive if you are visiting, and absolutely worth giving it a try if you live in the area. Overall, a great experience for an out-of-towner! read more

Dropped in while tracking for work. A very nice group of people and informal atmosphere. The programming was not geared for drop-ins, but they did a good job accommodating me and it was a good workout! A nice facility with bathrooms and changing area. read more
