Expect hidden fees upon sign up, and expect more hidden fees upon cancelation (plus a difficult cancelation process.) Make sure to get email verification from VASA that you canceled. In fact, I'd probably be willing to pay more per month if I didn't have to worry about hidden fees. I'll probably go to the local rec center instead. Reflect on yourself: doesn't that feel like a scam? Would you want to do business with a company whose contract you have to thoroughly read just to make sure that you're not getting duped? Don't get me wrong, it's smart to read contracts that you sign. It's just that high-trust organizations don't hide their fees in contracts that they know their customers won't read. You know that most people won't read the contract, and you also know that most people who sign the contract won't be aware of cancelation fees, 30 day cancelation notice requirements, rate guarantee fees, or other fees beyond the monthly payment. Yet, you charge people those fees anyway. That's what makes you a low-trust organization. To the VASA employee who is responding to my review, I know you're not the one who makes these contractual policies. It's not your fault. But if you have any say in the matter, maybe you should bring it up. It could be a great marketing strategy to advertise VASA as the only gym chain in the US with no hidden fees. When it first opened, it was fantastic -- welcoming staff, community events, clean facilities, and a great overall atmosphere. Since the new owner took over, everything has gone downhill. There is rarely any staff present, making it nearly impossible to bring guests or get assistance when needed. You can't purchase merchandise or basic items anymore, which shows a clear lack of basic operational effort. Multiple pieces of equipment are broken and remain unrepaired, and the facility itself is noticeably dirty. It feels neglected and poorly managed. It's obvious that there is little to no pride or care being put into this business anymore. I can no longer recommend this location to anyone. It's truly sad to see what was once a great gym deteriorate so badly. At this pace, I would honestly be surprised if this location is still open a year from now. Unfortunately, my experience changed over the past year. The membership price was increased twice within one year, and the second increase was with less than a month's notice. I also had a few interactions with staff that left a bad impression. On multiple occasions, I felt that staff members were rude, short with us, and seemed genuinely annoyed to even be speaking with us. One particular interaction stood out to me: the owner came into the gym while we were working out and questioned whether we were actually members. We were, of course, active members, so being approached and questioned that way while we were simply trying to work out was uncomfortable and frustrating. My biggest issue was when I decided to cancel my membership. I canceled on the 6th, which was the day of my billing cycle, and was told that because I didn't cancel before the 6th, I would not receive a refund for the month. I had not been made aware of this policy. When I asked to see the policy, I was told there was no actual policy document and that it was explained when members sign up. I was also told that it was my responsibility for not asking about it beforehand. What was frustrating was that I specifically asked before signing up about cancellation fees and whether there was a contract or lock-in period. I was told that I could cancel at any time and that there were no lock-in fees.
