I've been going to Fox Den for a month now and I am hooked. Nothing has ever been able to…read moreconsistently get me up before 0500 until now. i did some market research before committing to doing crossfit- you have to admit, crossfit in general is cost-prohibitive- but my current exercise mentality just wasn't up to snuff. I was 14 months postpartum, had recently gone back to work full time out in North Charleston, and was a member at the Y. I had intentions and plans to make it to the Y at least 3 times a week but since my schedule was so crazy we hardly ever went. I'm talking we'd be lucky just to get there on a Saturday much less during the week. We were paying $63 for a family membership and it was all going down the drain. Not only that, but the times we did make it there I always ended up just running and doing a little bit of random strength training. It was haphazard at best. So, I started looking at the Crossfit gyms in the area. There weren't many that were close to our house and most were so expensive. Fox Den was fairly close to my house (less than 10 minutes) and they had the best rates. They also had the longest trial period of 5 days- most had a one or two day trial period. So I went for 5 days and loved every minute. Yes, I was intimidated. But Nate and the other trainers are so friendly and helpful, they are not judgemental at all. They take the time to work with you on form and execution. And, the members are the same; everyone is so encouraging with each other. On top of that, every workout can be scaled to your needs so as a newbie I wasn't expected to be doing stuff that Crossfit veterans are doing. After the trial period I signed up as a member. There are many motivators that weren't present before that kept me coming. As I mentioned before, the trainers are fantastic and extremely helpful. The community is also there as a motivator- I go to the 0500 class and on average there are only three of us working out so if you don't show up people will notice! And obviously money is a factor- it's a lot of money so I'm not going to let it go to waste. Also, the workouts are planned for you- it takes all the planning and guess work that you'd typically have to do for yourself out of the equation. Nate uses Wodify so you can easily track your workouts and your progress.

Returning from a soft and squishy and delicious hibernation of gluttony, over-working, stagnation,…read moreand over-indulgence, I came to FoxDen last month to care for my body. I wanted something difficult. I needed accountability. And I longed for strength. Being one month in, I'm so grateful for this space. All of the trainers are absolutely wonderful. They accept my novice position within the CrossFit community, while not settling for me to give up. They want me to do hard things for myself, and not for the workout, and I know this due to the way they treat me. They've paid close attention to me from an encouragement, teaching and commitment standpoint without making me feel incapable and incompetent. For the first time in my nearly four decades on the planet, I'm craving my next day at the gym after leaving yet another strenuous one. What a gift this space has been for me to get my life and body back.

After being begged to try this place for almost two years now, I finally attended this past…read moreThursday with a friend and member for a strength training session. We selected this day for my first time (read: I am super out-of-shape, do not go to the gym, etc.) because it was low on cardio, focused on different stations of strength-based work, and easy to be modified. For example, if you move to a station where you are to lift weights, you could select 10 pound weights or 30 (or whatever) that is best suited for your needs. I wasn't nervous about coming because I've been to gyms of similar formats before. I was weary of embarrassing my friend in front of her other friends and coaches due to my lack of physical ability, but she assured me that no one would be judgmental and everyone would be encouraging. She was exactly right. Even better, no one seemed to give a rat's ass about what I was doing. And I mean that in a positive way. How nice to be able to work out and not feel like anyone is looking at you. That said, the coaches did keep an eye on me, to make sure I was doing the correct format or to offer me tips and modifications when it was obvious I needed it. I really enjoyed training at F45 this week, and I wish I lived in town so I could go back more often. I might want to check with the facility to see if they offer packages where you can purchase like a 10-class pass or something, because then I could join my friend when I visit from out of town or am home for holidays. I highly encourage anyone in Mount Pleasant or who lives in the area of an F45 to try out a class. You will not regret it!
