If you've paid much attention to the fitness scene over the past few years you've probably heard of…read more"CrossFit" training. Definition according to Wikipedia is as follows: CrossFit is a strength and conditioning brand that combines weightlifting, sprinting, gymnastics, powerlifting, and rowing.[1] CrossFit contends that a person is as fit as they are proficient in each of ten general physical skills: cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, agility, balance, coordination, and accuracy.[2] It defines fitness as "increased work capacity across broad time and modal domains."[3] The CrossFit program consists of "constantly varied, high intensity, functional movement."[4] I was recently exposed to the CrossFit training style at CrossFit405 in downtown OKC. And let me tell you, if you've grown tired of the commercial gym seen and are looking to be challenged to improve your fitness in a constructive, supportive, and motivating environment then you should drop by CrossFit405 and just watch a workout. Training sessions consist mainly of group workouts, of roughly 10-15 people per class, in which a coach for the workout will lead the team through the movements of the day. Classes are typically Monday through Friday w/ an AM, Noon, 430, 530, 630 pm, with an open gym period for practicing specifics movements on the weekends. If you aren't accustomed to the training modalities listed, have no fear, you will not be looked down upon or ridiculed for it, but rather steered toward what is called the "on-ramp" class. This class is structured to introduce the uninitiated to the movements that compose many of the workouts that make up the CrossFit training style. It takes place in a low-key environment, and the coaches spend time focusing on the basics of the movements and insuring that each individual can execute them safely and effectively. However, if you're accustomed to running/rowing/sprinting/plyometrics/free weight training/Olympic style lifting/gymnastics/ and other bad assery then they'll let you fall right into the next pain fest! Overall, I have had a blast training here over the past month. And again, if you are looking to be challenged then look no further. It's the most fun you'll have suffering at the working end of a barbell, jump rope, rowing machine, etc that you've ever had!!!

In the short time I was at the gym, I could tell that the owners and trainers care about their members, welcome visitors, and are great advocates of the CrossFit community. They encourage their members to have clear goals and the coaches participate in continued learning classes. This is a budding box that is definitely worth a visit when you are in town!

Great place for a worktime workout…read more Since this gym is mostly part of the OU Fit program, it isn't crowded, is very clean, and is conveniently located at work. I loved coming here to get a quick mid-day workout or a little bonus gym time when my schedule permitted. For the low cost, convenience, and safety, it was worth it to add the NRGY membership as an adjunct to my BCBS global membership. The best part of this gym is that it is so well-maintained- nothing was ever broken, all of the equipment is very new, and the small space made it easy to get a quick full-body workout without having to walk across a large facility to access different equipment. I mostly visited during the day and later in the evening, and most times was the only person there.

I've been training for a new job, have failed at the fitness exam twice thus far and was recommended to The Edge by those I am applying with. I was skeptical, I already have a gym, a structured work out and have even hired a personal trainer. BUT as I have come to find out over the past few months, Denny is NOT a personal trainer. He's a coach, a cheer leader (he'll appreciate that) a friend. He pushes you harder and farther than you've think you have in you. His history with college sports (and country music) is what makes him the perfect addition to your workout regimen. His exercises and drills are based off of the science of physiology. His encouragement and coaching ability are built on years of experience and an overall awesome, personable demeanor. His coaches, Brooke, Griffin, Brandi, are awesome!!! They've only complimented the experience I have already had with him. He will get you to where you WANT to be in terms of health, strength and in a roundabout way mental security. It's quite the stress relief when you workout with him. Come on out and try the various programs he has! You will NOT regret a second of it!
