Matt Thornton is the Head Strength Coach/Program Designer for the Hyperswole Sports Performance Gym. HyperSwole also has Chris Philips (ONNIT Certified Trainer) and Sean Rutgerson (Head Coach for Jacksonville Axemen/USA Hawks Rugby League Teams). All the coaches are always available and approachable for Fitness Programs, tips, personal training. Hyperswole is not your typical gym. From a quick glance you may think that the gym is intended only for the hardcore fitness\gym fanatics. While the gym does have dedicated members, HyperSwole Sports Performance Gym has a program for every one regardless of age, fitness level and goal. The daily group fitness classes (that can be signed up online/mindbody app) are also posted on the main gym monitor. KidSwole Classes for ages 7-14 are held M,W,F as well a new offering for Senior fitness classes. You always have the option to follow your own workout OR work with one of the coaches to develop a custom tailored workout to meet your fitness goals. All of the artwork around the gym is by Coach Matt. It adds to the uniqueness of the gym and compliments all of the familiar gym equipment. There are rowing machines, xbex bikes, LifeFitness Resistance machines, cable cross-over machine, dumbbbell free weight area, squat and press rack area, and a dedicated deadlift area. Also available are heavy punching bags, weighted/fitness balls, kettlebells, boxes, monster tire/hammer, plate weighted push sleds and even an indoor basketball hoop! As the COVID-19 Pandemic is top of concern with many, all of the gym members and Coaches follow the best practices of proactively sanitizing equipment before and after use. The small group classes also allow to spread apart with space for each participant. While the gym can be busy at times, it is never overly crowded to the point where there is a concern or you have to wait a long time for equipment or machine. This is especially true for typical the peak times of other gyms or fitness clubs. HyperSwole also allows members to additionally sign up for 24 hour gym access (for those who prefer to work out on off hours or at their convenience). Definitely worth a trial! I was not active at all prior to staring at OTF. They still welcomed me in and made me feel comfortable even though I had no clue what I was doing. They offer different levels of workouts depending on your activity levels. I started out on the lower tier and have already worked my way up to being able to run and jog -- I am really seeing a difference. The workouts are pretty intense but it's a take-it-as-you-can style. They never make you overwork yourself or do things your uncomfortable with. I really enjoy the group setting and having the coaches giving direction because it encourages everyone to keep up the pace and to work as hard as they can! It can be a little intimidating but now that I've gotten into a routine here I don't see myself stopping. I'm seeing changes in my stamina and my body already and I'm looking forward to challenging myself even more as time goes on. I recommend coming in and consulting with a coach to get started, they even offer a free class or two if you're new!! No reason not to come give it a try.

I was in Jax for the week meeting my girlfriend's family (heavy shots I know), and one of her cousins invited me to this F45 he goes to. I obviously agreed as I had been trying to find ways to sneak a workout in and I needed to show him, and the rest of the family by way of the transitive property, that I am an ELITE level athlete. The first circuit was all lower body and I was feeling pretty good. "I still got it" the hero said to himself.... In diabolical contrast, the first three exercises of the 2nd circuit had me talking to God as it went from bicep curls, to push ups, to pull ups back to back to back like the 00-02 Lakers. The rest of the trip I was limping due to lactic acid build up in my legs. Humbled me quick, but I need to push myself to absolute exhaustion as my NYC men's league starts mid-January again. What off-season??? In the midst of this blitzkrieg of arm workouts, "Don't Like" by Chief Keef came on to save me from giving up on myself. Thank you, Mr. Keef. Music was HITTIN in here. After class, I found myself wondering why I don't do more F45 classes as it is the most efficient workout you can do, BLASTING your full body in only 45 minutes is actually fantastic. Shoutout to Caroline, the instructor, as she put together a great class that got me better. Fatigue makes a coward of us all, and if I keep working out like this I will be on fresh legs come the 4th quarter of our NYC basketball men's league games.     I came in here the other week with my wife using a free one week trial and was blown away by the…read moreworkouts and the whole experience. This location is a bit of a trek for me from my part of Jacksonville, but I found the trek worth it, at least during my vacation months. F45 is a world wide gym chain where locals purchase a franchise. The workouts are between 45 minutes to 60 minutes, but mostly 45 minutes. You can sign up on the website or you can use the F45 app to book your class. The workouts vary depending on the day. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday are more cardio based classes. Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday are more power and strength based. Saturday is a mix of cardio and strength. The classes on one day are all the same, but they switch from day to day. Every ten weeks or so all the classes change. Some new classes emerge and some old classes come back onto the schedule. You kind of never know what you are going to get and that is part of the awesomeness of it. We managed to go six days out of seven and we had our butts handed to us constantly. The one day we missed we were both severely sore and could barely move. This F45 has a large community of members that seemed pretty young. I think there were a few really friendly members, but for the most part people kept to themselves. The trainers though were very friendly. Dave was always a pleasure, friendly, and corrected my form when doing exercises with poor form. Membership rates are closer to what you find at Orange Theory as opposed to what LA Fitness costs. If you are looking for a cheap gym this isn't it, but if you can pay the $100+ dollar rates for monthly membership make sure you come at least 4-6 times a week and get your moneys worth. We joined a location a little bit closer to us, but we may come back here for the different atmosphere. I loved how they had a DJ on Saturday spinning tunes live as we killed ourselves picking heavy objects up and putting them over repetitively. This place is definitely worth a visit.

    i LOVE LOVE ABP! BEST "GYM" I've ever been to! I've been to 24 hour Fitness, LA Fitness, my…read moreapartment complex gym, etc...and nothing compares. I first came in back in April 2012 as hesitant because I was honestly scared of intimidating work outs, will I look like a fool, and will I fall over for not being able to do the work outs. I loved the friendly staff and owners that I met on my first day in! They greeted me with open arms and helped me realized my health goals and what I need to achieve these goals. The workouts are GREAT! Every week is a different routine and they throw finishers too at the end of every workout. If you can't do a certain circuit due to injuries, they also offer modifications and work with you. They've now added BOXING!! Boxing is now my favorite part! Great cardio workout, help build stamina, and build self confidence too. The trainers & staff are great!! They're a fun, outgoing, and respectful group of individuals who push you to strive harder. I've lost more than 20lbs and counting! I'm more confident in myself, feel great, my asthma hasn't been a nuisance, and the trainers have also helped me find ways to ease my plantar faciitis. My goal is to fit nicely (and not bulging) in my new size 8 clothes, and maybe even get into a size 6...but it's not just about the sizes, it's leading a healthy lifestyle and enjoying my workouts at ABP. I hate to move at the end of the year after I get married back to California...I wish I can take ABP & the great staff with me! I need to hit the lotto so that can encourage them to come out hahaha!
