Crossfit Total Control no matter what location you go to: beach, south side, or rivers edge is top notch! If you need a place to drop in or just try Crossfit for the first time! You will NOT regret it!

I've probably dropped in at CFTC a dozen times or more now over the years, and every one has proven to be top notch. This past Monday, despite the fact that it wasn't programmed, Coach Nate found a way to judge me personally for my second attempt at 19.4 in the middle of class. Four days later, he judged me again for my first crack at 19.5 and provided the motivation needed to help me post a solid score. The owner, Coach Russell, is always responsive via e-mail and usually cuts me a deal when I do multiple-drop-ins throughout one of my visits to Jax. When I'm in town, this is where I go without hesitation.

It is HORRIBLE. I hate gyms and the overwhelming feeling of starting another plan to work out - but I had to. THEN I met Coach Chad. This guy is amazing; super smart about strength training but also really focused on being safe at whatever level you come in at. I come in complaining about pain in my knees and back and every time I train with him I feel I am getting stronger and doing work on my weaker areas. It feels like strength training and physical therapy with one stop in my day. The environment at the gym is fun, serious, energized, with a constant message that if you do the work today it will bring positive change tomorrow. All my sessions are different and individually planned for me. Coach Chad is definitely not boring! I really appreciate that while I am complaining that I don't want to be working out he is telling me what I am capable of and that I just need to commit to show up, keep going and the motivation will come. JSA is brand new, the equipment is incredible, Chad is awesome and it's really fun to watch the Olympic Weight Training clients while you work out! I seriously recommend going in and checking it out. It will do really well cause Chad is that good. It has far exceeded my expectations.

I was not active at all prior to staring at OTF. They still welcomed me in and made me feel comfortable even though I had no clue what I was doing. They offer different levels of workouts depending on your activity levels. I started out on the lower tier and have already worked my way up to being able to run and jog -- I am really seeing a difference. The workouts are pretty intense but it's a take-it-as-you-can style. They never make you overwork yourself or do things your uncomfortable with. I really enjoy the group setting and having the coaches giving direction because it encourages everyone to keep up the pace and to work as hard as they can! It can be a little intimidating but now that I've gotten into a routine here I don't see myself stopping. I'm seeing changes in my stamina and my body already and I'm looking forward to challenging myself even more as time goes on. I recommend coming in and consulting with a coach to get started, they even offer a free class or two if you're new!! No reason not to come give it a try.

I was in Jax for the week meeting my girlfriend's family (heavy shots I know), and one of her cousins invited me to this F45 he goes to. I obviously agreed as I had been trying to find ways to sneak a workout in and I needed to show him, and the rest of the family by way of the transitive property, that I am an ELITE level athlete. The first circuit was all lower body and I was feeling pretty good. "I still got it" the hero said to himself.... In diabolical contrast, the first three exercises of the 2nd circuit had me talking to God as it went from bicep curls, to push ups, to pull ups back to back to back like the 00-02 Lakers. The rest of the trip I was limping due to lactic acid build up in my legs. Humbled me quick, but I need to push myself to absolute exhaustion as my NYC men's league starts mid-January again. What off-season??? In the midst of this blitzkrieg of arm workouts, "Don't Like" by Chief Keef came on to save me from giving up on myself. Thank you, Mr. Keef. Music was HITTIN in here. After class, I found myself wondering why I don't do more F45 classes as it is the most efficient workout you can do, BLASTING your full body in only 45 minutes is actually fantastic. Shoutout to Caroline, the instructor, as she put together a great class that got me better. Fatigue makes a coward of us all, and if I keep working out like this I will be on fresh legs come the 4th quarter of our NYC basketball men's league games. I came in here the other week with my wife using a free one week trial and was blown away by the…read moreworkouts and the whole experience. This location is a bit of a trek for me from my part of Jacksonville, but I found the trek worth it, at least during my vacation months. F45 is a world wide gym chain where locals purchase a franchise. The workouts are between 45 minutes to 60 minutes, but mostly 45 minutes. You can sign up on the website or you can use the F45 app to book your class. The workouts vary depending on the day. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday are more cardio based classes. Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday are more power and strength based. Saturday is a mix of cardio and strength. The classes on one day are all the same, but they switch from day to day. Every ten weeks or so all the classes change. Some new classes emerge and some old classes come back onto the schedule. You kind of never know what you are going to get and that is part of the awesomeness of it. We managed to go six days out of seven and we had our butts handed to us constantly. The one day we missed we were both severely sore and could barely move. This F45 has a large community of members that seemed pretty young. I think there were a few really friendly members, but for the most part people kept to themselves. The trainers though were very friendly. Dave was always a pleasure, friendly, and corrected my form when doing exercises with poor form. Membership rates are closer to what you find at Orange Theory as opposed to what LA Fitness costs. If you are looking for a cheap gym this isn't it, but if you can pay the $100+ dollar rates for monthly membership make sure you come at least 4-6 times a week and get your moneys worth. We joined a location a little bit closer to us, but we may come back here for the different atmosphere. I loved how they had a DJ on Saturday spinning tunes live as we killed ourselves picking heavy objects up and putting them over repetitively. This place is definitely worth a visit.

It's not been my favorite studio overall, but they offer convenient times for classes and the workouts are always great, even if the classes aren't full or super high energy. The two coaches I've had have been friendly and do a great job during classes to help correct your form or keep you on track. The space is plenty large and I've never felt overwhelmed with trying to fit in with the other members or all of the equipment, Overall, I'd stick with a 4/5.

There are so many positives so let me start with the fact that you can sign up for a free, no strings attached trial. I downloaded an app, logged in, and whenever I wanted to attend a class I checked the days schedule and booked it. The app doesn't tell you how full a class is, but the website does. I did five classes all week and I think the hardest class was Wednesdays Docklands. I was sore all over and drenched. The classes switch focus from day to day. Some days you are working on more strength based exercises, some days you are shooting for a high heart rate, and some days they mix the two. All the classes in every F45 worldwide is the same on any given day and they change the classes every 10 weeks. You won't be stuck or bored doing the same thing week to week. The owner Chris is very nice and personable. The coaches are fit and illustrate good form when they run through their exercises at the beginning of each class. They encourage you when you are huffing and puffing. They will correct you when you are doing something wrong so you don't hurt yourself, which is super important. They are also just nice and positive. They motivate each person in class to strive for their best. That may be the number one best thing I can say about F45. If you are shooting to shred some fat and gain some muscle F45 is a place where you can make that happen. If you can eat healthy to go along with consistent visits you will be looking different in a few months. I purposefully went the whole week before I asked about membership. I really wanted to get a feel for the gym without thinking is this expensive or worth it. Prices vary based on how much you visit, which is to be expected. It is about eight times more expensive than my current gym, but twenty times better. If you can afford it and take advantage of what you pay for then you won't regret it. I can totally see the coaches encouraging you to come in or not miss a day, so you hit your goals. F45 is new so everything inside still has a nice new look and feel. If you are used to doing your own thing at a box gym, this experience is different, but not bad. Classes last about 45 min with one class a week going a full 60 minutes. No more wasting two hours at a gym slowly going between exercises and hearing bro's grunt as they try and out peacock each other. In all honesty you will mostly zone everyone out during your workouts here as you will be working too hard. I am not sure yet if I will join, although I loved my experience, but you should definitely take a look for yourself. I had a great week and you will too.
