Note, that most of the positive reviews for this facility are from visitors and not consistent members. I can say that as a consistent attendee - my experience was less than amazing. It was downright a waste of money, though I remained hopeful that it would improve.
There was one coach who went above and beyond to coach every individual in the class, without focusing solely on advancing students. Unfortunately, that coach failed to learn and remember my name. With attending a minimum three classes a week, and for the amount of money paid, recalling a name after six months of membership for someone who regularly attends class with this particular coach...that irritated me. My workout partner and I were consistently referred to as "ladies". I attended classes without her, and never was referred to by my name.
Then, there were the classes at 3:30. The coach for the 3:30 classes was more interested in providing half-ass directions to the class to then walk away and flirt with the CrossFitters who would be working out in the basics area.
The class sizes are too big. Often we ran out of space for the workout. The gym claims that you can work out outside of class times, but this didn't seem to be acceptable or encouraged. First, because the classes were so big there wasn't available space. By the way, nothing like getting that heart rate going and warming up like watching someone else on the rowing machine. Second, because the advanced CrossFitters certainly had all the space and freedom to do whatever - including infringing on the space allotted to the basics class; whereas others were not offered that.
Be prepared when reading this review that whoever monitors these reviews from CrossFit will comment - they didn't know, etc. in an attempt to appear as a perfect place to workout. Well, I'll counter that now:
When my workout partner and I quit - she gets a call inquiring as to why we were leaving the gym. I spoke out against the issues - overcrowding, not supporting working out outside of designated class times, the coach who didn't pay attention. The mirror of the truth of the situation didn't bode well apparently - I wasn't worthy of the call or the verbal inquiry from the owner or whomever to see what happened.
The facility itself is what I'd be looking for in a gym. But like all CrossFit facilities - it's overpriced, overcrowded and the cultish. It seemed like only those people who bought their shirts at $20 or more a shirt were acknowledged in the class. I didn't go for that I'm already paying $150 a month, and I will not provide free advertising for you. You should give me a shirt for joining.
Save yourself some money, join a conventional gym with a functional workout area; download Wendler's 5-3-1 power lifting app (includes what to do for the workout and accessory work); and put a little money toward having a personal trainer ensure you lift properly. I spent $1,050 dollars in 7 months of going to this gym so that someone wouldn't remember my name, the other coach could flirt and I could get half-responsive directions on my lifting...I certainly couldn't put $500 toward personal trainer sessions at another facility and be in a much better place.
Oh - that was the other thing - I joined this CrossFit because there were yoga classes. Until the one yoga class time that worked for my schedule - see, I have to work in order to pay for the gym - was cancelled. Because that was the other element I loved - if I got a work call that I had to take - one of the coaches took to yelling - this is your workout get off the phone. I responded - I can only pay if I work and you can work and have a job if I pay...
Oh and I forgot about the fat shaming - you're doing good if you're here and no Krispy Kreme or in and out burger.
This was a disappointing experience. read more
