The House is not a gym, it's a group of coaches and trainers, who teach the correct body position, the reason behind it (helps me remember if I know the why) and how much to lift, based on where I am. The classes are small, it's not a "gym" with tv, lockers and roid heads or dudes trying to look at your butt (not mine). It's a group of folks dedicated to their health, the longevity, the long game is the heart of it. Exercise is not a fad, you do it and then you are done. This is what The House is great at. They are looking for you to learn the reasons you do it, how to pace it, how to develop, track and grow. Concrete example, in March, they had us test 1 perfect rep at the heaviest weight. If I can do a deadlift with 50lbs, that becomes my max. Now when I am working out and the rep 4-6x at 50% of max, I know I am working out with 25lbs. Now I have a goal to increase, and keep building. Education is an important component, not just lifting. As a woman, I never feel uncomfortable in this environment. 3 classes per week = 12x per month at $155? You cannot find a better deal in the Portland area.

Trainers are super nice and able to give suggestions for modifications. Likely better if you know your own modifications. Lighter weights are to the right of the door if you need 5 pounds. The traditional class which is half cardio and half weight training is a little different than pre-Covid. The biggest difference is they focus on what you're doing, not where your heart rate is. At my class we did a lot of hills. And there was no mention of aiming for red zone. There were mentions of last push or empty your tank, but not aiming for specific colors. Which was great for me because when my heart rate gets too high, I pass out. The heart rate system is really amazing in each machine from treadmill or roar can identify your band and you can choose your profile for your machine. It doesn't work on the weights, ( choosing your station because it doesn't matter). I think the heart rate monitor is optional. However, having that option to identify for the machine and tracking little more detail of what you're doing and getting the email somebody at the end is very motivating and really great. I really liked everyone on staff and everyone was very welcoming and kind even if you're not a 20 year-old fitness influencer. I also really like how there's plenty of parking and very easy access to the facility.

After touring the gyms I came away with the impression that Stafford was by far the best gym in the area. The staff is superb and the gym and equipment are clean. They also do an excellent job at making sure there aren't so many members in the gym that there are long wait times to use the equipment.

"A place where everybody knows your name... and you're always glad you came." [1]…read more My review is based on my membership of one year where I've consistently visited 4x/week. Beginning during the end stages of COVID restrictions, it was so nice to experience outdoor swimming, the hot tub, and social time with other members. Swimming is my main experience at the club so here is what you should know: * Six lane outdoor salt water pool that is open year round (I've done laps in the snow, sleet, and hail). * You can reserve four of the six lanes and it is very competitive to get times, especially during the warm weather months when you are competing for space with the swim team, swim lessons, and aqua aerobics classes. * The other two lanes are left open for first come first serve usage and swimmers are encouraged to share. * The outdoor hot tub is for 14+ over. I have only taken one yoga class at the club and all classes have you reserve your spot. If you cancel less than 12 hours in advance or are a no show, you are charged a $10 fee. Personally, I don't mind since the reservation system makes me accountable and if I don't have a reservation, I'm less likely to go workout. The club is a nice mix of serious athletes (I'm surrounded by masters swimmers and triathletes), retirees, and families. Prior to my membership, my teenage son was a member for two years and loved the weight room, sauna, and steam room. The club as been open for awhile and is definitely showing its age and is need of some maintenance upgrades in the pool area. That being said, I have been very happy with my membership here and the personal feel, literally being greet by name when entering and exiting, and the wonderful customer service. This club is very different from the large national chains, so to each their own. Definitely recommend a trial membership at this club as well as others in the area to see which is the best fit for you. Great workout | Great facility and instructor, Jenny…read more (Review written by a mom with 2 kids and currently 2months postpartum) Wow, I am impressed with this place. I've never owned a gym membership nor tried out a workout class before until now. I will admit that I'm an avid rock climber (moreso into bouldering the last 7 years since starting a family), but I've always been intimidated by typical gym classes. I'm so glad I checked this place out because I don't feel scared or intimidated here. My friends joined one in their area and have said positive things about it, so I decided to try out their free class. Before signing up for the free class, I dropped by to ask some questions and check out the facility in-person. I was very impressed with how organized they are and the machines/stations are all updated and well-equipped. I really liked the vibe immediately. And the front desk folks, Randy & Jenny, were super helpful and friendly. I went home to download the app and signed up for my first class. I arrived half an hour before the class and saw that my name was on a sign welcoming me to the gym - neat! The front desk person was also very friendly and helped set me up with a heart rate monitor. I really like having this while I work out so I can track my progress and see where I'm at in my workout. Jenny greeted me shortly after and showed me the facility and walked me through the process of the session, showing me how each station works. There is a lot of information, but I definitely just learned as a I went in the class. I really liked that Jenny asked what my goals were and if I had any existing injuries beforehand. I enjoyed my 1hr class 2G group. I started out rowing then moved to weights and ended on the treadmill. Gosh, cardio is not my thing, but I really liked moving from station to station so it didn't feel like I was trudging through the whole hour. I liked that Jenny explained what we were doing next, showed us how to do the exercise and then made modifications for me. I was unable to hit the orange and red zones during my workout, but I was happy (and very tired) with my stats. I burned about 435 calories with my highest heart rate at 155. I pushed myself safely and felt like I made the most out of my 1hr. I plan on buying a class pack of 10 instead of a membership because I'm unsure what my schedule is like each week. I won't be able to come in consistently, but I'd like to make it a goal to get 2 days of the week in. I also plan to alternate these work outs with bouldering, that's why. This facility has lockers, a shower (with shampoo, conditioner, and hair dryer), and a bathroom (with deodorant and other amenities). Location is great! It's right across from a Dutch Bros with enough parking.

2/5. Staff COMPLETELY MISLEAD me…read more I lived in Wilsonville, OR for an extended period of time for work (~4 months). I was told I could use my purchased classes back home in Washington. Turns out I'm a "level 3" (whatever that means) and ALL the ones in Washington are "level 5". I can't attend ANY Orangetheory class w/o paying an additional fee of classes I ALREADY BROUGHT. I have (8) classes remaining. If I wasn't lied to, I wouldn't have purchased. Instructors were good. EDIT: Dropped to 1/5. Customer service was not helpful at all. Said the "only way to determine if a surcharge applies to the studio is if a surcharge prompt appears during the booking process". So you'll only know if you'll be hit w/ an additional charge if you book through the app? Crazy that how the business is run. Very misleading, sneaky, and honestly feels like a money grab.

A plus for me is the drive here is mostly farm land which is GORGEOUS!!! Jon is the manager, and having known him from his days at Beaverton, I knew his gym would be much cleaner. Then you have your crazy people like the super MAGA who tried to explain to me how Nickle pennies would revolutionize money and technology. No thank you sir. Stop. He also told me that "women" should understand that we all started from ADAM and EVE, one MAN and one WOMAN. Y'all this is why I keep my airpods in. But I was making my mom lift weights because dementia is coming at her and SCIENCE tells us that lifting weights is the best thing for aging and preventing diseases like dementia and Alzheimer's.
