I had recently gone on vacation with 13 of my very best friends to the Virgin Islands, and while I was there, two of them went to crossfit every single day. Who does that right? That was my question too. I watched them wake up at 6am to hit "the box" at 7am, and I didn't really understand why they were doing it. We were on vacation, and in my eyes vacation meant a vacation from everything including exercise. But because I watched them do this, it made me want to try it for myself when we got home and that is how I met Jared, a best friend of mine pointed me in the direction of Fusion TX Crossfit & Athletics. Jared put aside an hour for me when we first met. He showed me, taught me, and explained to me about how MY body moved. I don't know how Jared (and Sara his other coach) do it in a class full of all sorts of different people, shapes, sizes, and needs but he manages to give every single one of us his full undivided attention as if we were in a one on one setting. His devotion with wanting to help me understand my own movement was the exact motivation I was looking for. If you're anything like me, working out in a gym alone SUCKS. You definitely don't do that here, everyone works together, and that's so uplifting because at the end of the day our goals are the same. This gym is about community and growth. As the coach says, "Just come through the doors and the rest will take care of itself." I was hesitant to rejoin a CrossFit gym after a five-year absence because I feared other people judging me for not lifting as much as them or moving as fast as them. At this gym, I've only felt supported. The coaches are knowledgeable and quick to offer movement corrections for efficiency and safety. Other gym goers will offer tips and tricks (if you are interested in feedback) from their experiences only to assist your growth. Contrary to a previous review, this gym has a great quantity of equipment. I came from a CrossFit gym many years ago where we didn't perform wall balls because there were only a handful of medicine balls total; at BYB, I'm impressed with the quantity and quality of equipment. In the six months I've been going to CrossFit BYB, I've never once seen the classes so tight on equipment that it impeded the quality of workout. There is also a great variety of class times, which is so necessary for people like myself, who's professions require odd, difficult hours. All told, attending this gym has motivated me to be a better person, and it makes me feel better about myself. I attribute that to the atmosphere cultivated by the coaches and members. In October my family and I did a drop in at Fusion TX because we wanted to support a few friends who just recently decided to try Crossfit. Myself, wife & son have already been a part of the crossfit lifestyle for some time now so we are well aware of the many benefits it has to offer. One thing many wont understand about Crossfit other than the intense workouts and hard work that is put in each and everyday is the relationship with the people and the coaches you work with everyday. Over time you begin to build a very close bond with each person and an even closer bond with the trainers. In time you basically become family. Long story short... we checked out Fusion TX, met with the owner Jared Leeper (Even worked out with him) and within an hour felt like we belonged there. I only joined Crossfit because it's 2 blocks from my office and, as a single mom, I needed a workout during lunch. I had zero interest in the hardcore weight training "CrossFit" I'd heard of. Two years later, I can't imagine life without this gym. The coach is SO committed to providing workouts that definitely kick your ass but not to the point of injury. He knows each members limits and what will get them to the next level. I don't know how he does it, as there is EVERY fitness level and age represented. It's not just the daily WOD workout. There's open gyms, weekend competitions, nutritional guidance, emotional support, recovery centers, on site massages, on site chiropractors and tons of social opportunities if you have time (i rarely do). He is always adding new equipment and educating us on why we need to hit this or that neglected muscle. This is not a gym to just show up to get buff. It's a commitment to being part of a group of people who are working at building strong, healthy bodies and friendships that will last a lifetime. read more

I have tried out a couple different boxes in the past. Boxes that had placed at the games even! My experience at those gyms left me with a severe apprehension to try crossfit again. I just completed my first week with crossfit BYB. I can 100% say that I felt the coaches making sure I was doing things properly, they had excellent demonstrations, and they were very diligent in reminding me that the goal is long term health not a big show with an accompanying injury. I look forward to the next week, and subsequent weeks with my new family at BYB and hope that I can join them in some local competitions in the future. If you want a box that will keep you healthy, talk about what goals you have for yourself, and help you get further than you realized you could go to BYB. read more

Jared was kind enough to let me drop in on my way to Eugene and I am glad I did. Crossfit BYB has great equipment and is one of the cleanest gyms/boxes I've ever been in. Everything I used was in great condition. While I was there I saw the end of a class and I was approached by a couple of the members who were curious what I was doing. I have to say the community is not only inspiring to watch as a group but the members seem very welcoming, positive and committed to improving themselves in and out of the gym. First impressions can speak volumes for a place you may want to train and improve yourself, and Crossfit BYB definitely blew me away. As the owner of CrossFit BYB, I must be honest. Build Your Better is my life's work and we have achieved things beyond what was planned. Truthfully however, nothing is perfect, daily progress and growth are the goals. If I could give 4.9 stars I would as the value is in the journey, not the destination. I researched many places before coming to Crossfit BYB. I'm 50 and my regular workout routine was not getting me where I wanted to be. I wanted to build strength but just as important I wanted to avoid injury as well. One year later, I've stayed healthy and I continue to improve my strength. The coaches here are constantly paying attention to forum and technique. The vibe at the gym is always try your best and leave your ego at the door. What's better is not only do love this gym, but the people are awesome.... I love the fact that I get to work out everyday with good friends. It's been 4 and a half years since first joining BYB and let me tell you what. My home away from home, this is my happy place!! The coaching is stellar, the on site masseuse is a nice plus along with the infrared sauna and recovery but the family and community, top notch!! I dropped by this box when I was in Portland. It was a quick warm up, strength session, WOD, then some abs accessory work! I felt all the workout were perfectly designed. The WOD pushed me to the edge in the last two rounds. That's when you know it's a good WOD! The people were really supportive and motivating. And the coach (Jared) was very welcoming. The abs accessory work was a bear claw with legs on a plate. I've never done this before. I never knew my legs were so heavy. Hahaha! Thanks for letting me WOD with you guys. I am on my 6th month at BYB, which happens to be my 6th month of crossfit and I love it, even more so, I love this place!
