    Dough Balls
    Philip S.

I like Croma, and I have visited several times to take advantage of their "Early Bird" special, which consists of a starter, beer or wine, and a pizza, all for £11.95. Currently, this deal is on Sunday to Friday 15:00-19:00 (extended until 22:00 on Mondays). It had been a while since I last visited until recently, but is seemed as popular as ever, especially on a Friday night. Despite it being busy, the service was top class. For starters, I ordered the dough balls, which are smothered with butter and very tasty. One gets a generous portion, which equates to a good starter. I am a fan of food with a bit of spice, and when it comes to pizza, often I cannot refuse Chorize Piccante or a similar pizza dish. I was a little disappointed when the pizza arrived, as I prefer a flat crispy base, which is how I remember Croma pizzas to be, but on this occasion, the base was more deep pan. On top of the base was a significant of pasata sauce, which was flavourful, but lacked spice. Therefore, it had a stronger tomato taste. The rest of the toppings were good: chorizo, green peppers, jalepeno, fresh chillies and mozzarella.

I came to eat at Croma on a Saturday afternoon when me and the girlfriend has bumped into some relatives in town. The place was absolutely packed, but we managed to get a table downstairs and the restaurant was light and bright. A nice place to spend an hour or two catching up with some relatives. Croma is all about the pizzas really, and they're really quite reasonable as well, with a proper pizza for less than £7 sometimes in this nice restaurant. I went for the chorizo piccante, which had hot sausage and some green peppers and the like. I love my spicy meat, so this was perfect for me and went down excellently with a couple of cold, bottled lagers. Croma also serve some quite off-beat pizzas which are always worth checking out. My girlfriend's cousin had the Aglefino which is some haddock and other stuff on a pizza. Sounded totally weird, looked and tasted great according to reports. Croma isn't the cheapest by any means, but easily equivalent price-wise top somewhere like Bella Italia or Pizza Express and maybe a tiny bit more interesting and individual.

    Half and half!

I've been here a few times sitting in and a couple of times for takeout too! They don't take bookings and it can get pretty busy but its good to know they have a lot of seating and the staff are great! Having only recently found out about their early bird menu (which runs throughout the week up until 7pm) we decided to head here on Friday after work. We were seated straight away and opted to all go for the cheap deal which for two courses plus a glass of wine or peroni was only £11! You are limited to either the standard garlic bread or the dough balls to start which are the cheapest on the starters menu. The dough balls were good - maybe slightly on the dry side but either way tasty enough and very light. The second course has more choice with you being able to pick any pizza off the menu and an added bonus upon asking meant that we also were able to go half and half! I opted for half peri peri chicken and the mushroom pizza - yum! The fact that we all went half and half meant that it was a complicated order and the waiter was good fun as we swapped and changed mid order! The pizzas were great - lots of yummy flavouring with cheese - spicy chicken and mushrooms. It was the perfect combo in my eyes! One of the mains came with jalapeños which it wasn't meant to - but easy to sort ourselves we didn't say anything. Great eye of detail though the waiter spotted it and apologised for the mistake. It was a lovely early dinner before we all headed off - thanked by the owner on our way out which was nice also. Only £11 down I was more than satisfied - this definitely may become a regular haunt for us mid week!

I love Croma! This place is fantastic, it's right in the city centre just near Albert Square, the food is lovely, the service is great and the prices are cheap! What more could you want? Croma has got to be one of my favourite restaurants just because everything about it is so easy, there's no pretention or attitude, it's always busy but you never have to wait too long for a table even without a booking, the staff are so efficient and quick and the pizzas are amazing. A lot of people compare it to Pizza Express and I can see why, the menu is very similar but Croma is so much nicer and has a much better atmosphere, it's much more relaxed.

I really love when an unexpected suggestion for restaurants comes out of the blue. Croma was the choice and what a pleasant time I had with my family. First at all the kids where treated very nice and the menu for them was just perfect; a small pizza, penne, ice cream and to finish off a nice cromaccino!!! (it's an espresso size cup with foamed milk and topped with chocolate powder. So once the kids where sorted, for us was easier!!! I had a chorizo chilli pizza which was absolutely right, as well as the others courses we order like the salmon and the baked pastas. It has a great selection of wines and good desserts, the price is not too expensive, the restaurant's deco is nice and simple making your evening agreeable. If you have the chance to have a look, if you are running out of choices, cool down and try Croma, don't expect the top of the roof specially if you are too picky, just enjoy it.

Aglafino pizza! White pizza with leeks, smoked haddock and an egg! It sounds gross but is AMAZING!!!!

STILL amazing! Excellent meal, great Service, great atmosphere, amazing Aglafino pizza, nice house wine, always a great experience at a reasonable price. The dough balls app is so incredibly simple and good (ask for extra fresh parsley on top) and the mushroom app, delicious! Still 5 stars! Happy Birthday SAM!

Went at 5.30 and got the early bird special, a glass of house wine, garlic bread, pizza and coffee all for £10.95. A cheap deliciously satisfying evening!

Real Italian food with amazing cocktails. My favorite was sweet and sours Amaretto. Wow great combination. You need try . Pizza was with full fresh herbs oregano and bassil. My recommendation is spicy beef pizza with jalapeños. This place is very big and always busy. Make the reservation first.

I was FINALLY able to try Rudy's, even though the universe seemed to be against me the whole time…read morebut I finally got in. I've wanted to try this place for some time now, and every time I see people in Manchester asking about the best pizza places, Rudy's is always peoples number one choice. I made a point to want to go there on this visit, so I did everything I needed to do in the city, and then headed over for when it opened so I knew I would be able to get a table. A few people went in before me and the staff member was talking to people a little bit so I had a feeling something was wrong. When I got to the them, it turns out the pizza oven wasn't turning on so there would have been a minimum of 30 minute delay, I could be seated but they couldn't do any orders until the people in had sorted out the problem. I decided to go off and do something else (there's an amazing coffee shop around the corner so I went there for a bit) and then return when, hopefully, it was all fixed. I was gone around 40-45 minutes and when I walked down the street, alongside the extractor vents, I could smell pizza so knew it was all working. When I got in, there was a lot more people inside so it must have been fixed pretty quick and people were going for food. I got seated at the bar area, which was actually where a group of chefs were making the pizzas. I was in front of the one shaping the dough into the pizza shape. I felt a bit awkward looking at them so did it a bit slyly out the corner of my eye. They weren't looking at me so maybe it was as uncomfortable for them as me ... or maybe its just me being an awkward person at a new place. Looking at the menu there was a lot of choice. All of it seemed authentic Neapolitan pizza which Ive never had before so it was new to me. The menu was extensive and I decided to go for good old fashioned basic. HOWEVER, it turns out I ordered even more basic as I got the marinara rather than the margarita ... I did order that but didn't realise the marinara was without cheese. SO that was a shock at first but MY GOD it was delicious. Perfectly cooked and I could see them cooking it, perfect amount of garlic shavings and basil and the sauce and base was to die for. I can see why people say its the best, and there was a number of delivery or to take out orders as a staff member was constantly going out with piles of boxes. On the table where I was there was a tomato tin filled with the cutlery and napkins and a giant pizza cutter which I thought was pretty cool, so I was able to slice my own pizza into whatever sized pieces I wanted. Obviously I ate it how it should be eaten (in my opinion)... into slices and picked up and folded and it was great. I also got a jug of water before my order was taken which I love, and went for a simple blood orange san Pellegrino which came with ice and an orange slice. The pizza was around 9 inch I think ... a good size either way and all in all it only came to £10 which was a bargain. I will, for sure, return and maybe get some cheese on it this time ... and maybe mushrooms as the fungi pizza looked amazing (the guy who sat next to me ordered that) and when I can finally move up to Manchester, I shall order from there more often.

We ordered on Deliveroo at 7:50 pm and the estimated delivery time was 30 - 60 minutes. As the hour approached (the latest the delivery should have been) the app said that the restaurant was still making our order. The app continued to extend the delivery time until we had been waiting two hours and fifteen and the restaurant was due to close. At this point the Deliveroo rider had been waiting at the restaurant for 15 minutes. We were growing increasingly anxious that we wouldn't get our food (that they would cancel the order) and then we wouldn't be able to get food because it was getting so late. The app had no way to contact the restaurant, but said to call the restaurant directly. I tried to call the restaurant multiple times and recieved both line busy messages and had my calls be hung up on. We called repeatedly and repeatedly got no answer. Finally, at 10:25 the rider got our pizza (2.5 hours after we had ordered), but we didn't get to eat until 10:40... A bit frustrating. Like I said, the food is good, but the lack of timeliness, the lack of communication... it was incredibly unprofessional and honestly anxiety inducing. At least have a message on your restaurant number. And if you're SO busy you can't do delivery... don't offer it as an option.

However, there was nobody there to greet us and it was difficult to get the attention from any staff, and when we did, it was a case of 'find a free spot', then order. We did get table service. The pizzas (mine was the Vulcano) came with circular pizza cutters, which I am not a fan of, but each to their own. The actual dough, despite being Neapolitan style, was slightly under-cooked, and overall my pizza could have done with an extra 3-4 minutes in the oven. The tomato sauce was watery and the cheese could have been mixed more with the pizza. I'll return for a drink, but next time I'll give the pizza a miss.
