I have a confession to make... With previously working across the road from Slice for 18 months it became my 'go to' place any time i felt slightly hungry. At around £2.50 a Slice of fantastic Rome pizza, you knew you were getting a quality product - even if a wheatgrass and sushi shack would have probably been better for my waist (and heart!) The nice thing about Slice is that it's informal enough to be able to pop into for a quick slice or two, maybe an espresso or a beer and they've really nailed it when it comes to offering that laid back continental vibe that you don't really get in other UK informal eateries. Even though it's "fast food" it's all made onsite by the owners/bakers and there must be around 10 different pizzas you can get which means there's always something different to have each time. My personal favourite is the ham and leek - it's an absolute treat! It does however look like they're starting to diversify and maybe look at becoming slightly more formal in the back of the store. There's a lovely little bar in the back - nicely stocked doing Italian wine, cocktails and beers - I just hope it's visible enough for people to discover as I thought it was a real find! Slice is great if you're hungry before meeting friends, to sit outside if it's a sunny day or to get quality takeaway as opposed to just some rubbish kebab shop pizza. These guys deserve to do well as they're offering something that little bit different so make sure you check it out! read more

Finally got round to trying Slice after passing by countless times both drunk and sober. I've heard it's a brilliant spot for a couple of slices after a few beers and I think in the back of my head I thought that meant it may not be that good to a sober palete - but it was! I had 4 slices (well 2 slices cut in half) of the Salami pizza and it was nice enough and hit the spot, however I feel the quality is sub par compared to other NQ heavy hitters! I think price wise its on the higher end for what you get which is another reason for the 3 stars. Having said this, as I left Slice after sitting inside and finishing off some work before an event, I passed some lucky folk enjoying the afternoon sunshine with a nice beer and few slices - now that is star climbing material! I think the outdoor seating area is a cool spot to people watch and wind down after a long day so I will definitely be doing that soon! Reason 1: I have never seen a restaurant with such a humane touch, the owners Liam and Matt are the friendliest business owners I have ever seen. They always chat with everyone, remember people's faces and also talk them through their pizza! They make all the food themselves and it is all FRESH. They start making the dough from 6 AM in the morning to start serving from 11 - whoa! Reason 3: I am in love with their bread and the ever changing menu. There is something new everyday and the best part is they are still coming up with new ones everyday! The pizza is delicious and served in really cute brown boards (I really wanna get one of those, are you listening?? ;p). I have had the strangest but the yummiest pizza's here, broccoli and ham; salmon pizza and so many more. They have also started making some dangerously good Calzone's (nom nom). Also do try their desserts specially the cheesecake brownie (finger lickin good!) Reason 3: They are literally below my building and one slice costs you just a mere 2.50 and that fills me up! You can have a nice and filling meal here for less than 5 pounds! Office folks you know where to get your lunch now right? I really love the concept of Slice but I'm not 100% convinced by the execution. Delicious pizza by the slice, Italian style? Sign me up. However the slice in question (mushroom, mozzarella and parsley) was pretty damn small and while it was perfectly tasty it didn't blow my mind quite like I wanted to. I paired it with a blood orange San Pellegrino and sat outside and enjoyed being outside, even if it was in the Northern Quarter and not in Rome. It's good to know Slice is there. Working on Dale St when the sun is out means one thing; pizzeria! Popping round the corner I find a seat in the sun and three slabs of pizza for £8.00 - range is great as always. The beer, albeit a fancy import is £5.20, a little sore but on a day like today, who cares. This place is perfect if you're starving or looking for a quick bite. On a separate note, who hates people who lick their fingers really loudly?! So slobby! Anyhow, great pizza and atmosphere in Stevenson Sq, it almost felt European. read more

To be fair to this little place you would probably pass it by on an evening thinking that it is daytime pizza place. It looks very "take out" on first inspection. Wander a bit further in and you'll find a nice little bar area and a good range of drinks ( they have Aperol spritz and old Skool Campari so that's me sold! ) staff are very helpful and all pizzas are made fresh on the premises. They do happy hour between 6-7pm and might even pop out of the kitchen with some nice nibbles for you! failing that check into yelp to get free olives! read more

This place is good, but not amazing. I've been on a number of occasions and have tried various flavours, anything with goats cheese or chilli does the trick. I find the slices are too small for how much they cost and one slice isn't filling enough as a meal. On occasion I've found certain flavours to be bland. They have outdoor seating which is ideal for warmer weather, and for people watching. Slice is open until around 11pm so it's a great spot for grabbing a bite to eat and a glass of wine on the way home. I love how they decorated the shop for Halloween, very autumnal. My favourite time of year :) I have found that the staff can be a little disorganised when the shop's busy, I waited around 20 minutes for a slice to be warmed up/to pay at lunchtime, annoying considering I only had 30 minutes for lunch. The ice cream counter keeps calling my name, I have yet to try some but will do soon. read more

I love this place! It's a lot bigger on the inside than you'd first think! We visited a couple of weeks ago for some after work beers and food. The selection of Pizza's is great for meat eaters and veggies. I went for the truffle oil and mushroom pizza. I wasn't sure these were going to be amazing with them being re-heated but after 5 minutes sat down, a cold beer at hand the pizza arrived and it was great! I love the fact that you don't have to order a whole pizza and call the life to get them to tow you home! And wait there's more... Check in on Yelp and you'll get a free bowl of the tastiest olives ever! I highly recommend Slice Pizza & Bread Bar.. only gripe is it can get really busy... but that's a good sign right! read more

Came here at start of the bank holiday. Do not judge a book by its cover this place has got a lot to offer!! I had the calzone pizza with mushrooms and basil- WOW! Mega tasty and only a couple of quid! Theyve got a wide range of pizzas sold by the slice and calzones'- both savoury and sweet! I was driving so I had a yummy cloudy apple juice but they do have a well stocked bar with reasonable prices. I have been to Slice 2-3 times in the past including one time during a Yelp event - shortly after they opened. The concept behind Slice is that you can, as the name suggests, buy pizza by the slice - which I like! :) I also like the fact that they trained in Rome as pizzaioli to learn how to make the best pizza and focaccia! Their Castelli oven was also made in Rome! The different pizzas I have eaten at Slice have always been tasty. They are a bit different to your usual toppings. Looking at their web site now, you get pizzas like mozzarella, courgette and anchovy, spinach and mushroom and artichoke, spinach and mushroom. They won't have all the different pizzas available - it varies depending when you go Writing this review though reminds me that I need to visit again soon as its been awhile! read more

wow!! What an amazing little place this is!! I stopped by here with my friend the other night (late Sunday evening) surprised it was even open, straight away we where met with a friendly face and a sea of pizza - all types and toppings! Slice Pizza is one of the few examples of "pizza al taglio" (pizza sold by slice) that I could find outside Italy, and it is also the proof of how much appreciated such a concept can be: it is possible to exploit the huge variety of pizzas offered, for about the same price as a classic pizza (or slightly more, depending on how hungry you are). Moreover, the quality is definitely high, and the ingredients are typical Italian products: 'nduja, bresaola, pesto rosso...I couldn't believe my eyes! Pizzas here are made in the roman style, since they have a rather crispy dough. The place is very nice and cozy, elegant and warm at the same time. The decor reveals attention for details, especially judging by the interior room and the bar, who offers quite only Italian beers and coffee. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, ready to give advice on which is the best choice for your slice of pizza. I am glad I gave this place a second chance, since the first time I came here it was on the occasion of the Italian Society event, and as a result it was intolerably crowded and noisy. After an event here, the sample platters and the joyful passion for quality and taste by the owners Liam and the other guy (sorry forgot your name) whet my appetite for more gorgeousness in pizza form. The selection looked so appetizing it was hard to make a choice and I was going for a spinach and artichoke one until I realized it had gorgonzola on it and had to plump for an alternative option of a chilli and sausage delight. Mr Z (being a zombi of discerning palate) had less choice and settled for a spicy salami and chilli combo and a generous piece of salted caramel millionaire shortbread to go. After munching on the cheesy crunchy goodness (with a healthy kick of spice) we both knew that we would return to Slice very soon. Tried this place out last night for the first time and I was very pleasantly surprised. It was too late to sit inside so we were buying via the serving window on the street. I'll admit, I thought that the pizza would be underwhelming as late-night takeaway options often are, but Slice really delivered. The pizza is right there in the window, in revolutionary rectangular slices. It's laid out like a deli counter so you can really eat with your eyes, rather than choosing off a menu and hoping for the best. The pizza itself was delicious, with generously sized slices but it is more expensive than other takeaways. I'd still happily pay the extra for the quality of the pizza though. Behind a slightly grubby fast-food facade lurks something much closer to a continental brasserie. Slice does far better pizza than I expected when I first visited, opens later than most places throughout the week and is something of a hidden gem. The concept of pizza by the slice is mystifyingly yet to take off in a big way here. Go to Slice and you'll see why it's such a good idea. They have an intriguing range of pizzas - I went with a vegetarian friend recently, and he was amply catered for (beetroot and brie, broccoli and chilli) - but also do the classics well. The by-the-slice approach means it's very wallet-friendly, even if you pair your pizza with one of the premium beers on offer. On a sunny day you can enjoy your food and drink in Stevenson Square, if that's your bag; to me, though, Slice is a great opportunity to sneak into the delightfully appointed interior, preferably near the small bar, and pretend you're in Italy. The gelato upped this place by a star. No contest. I kind of imagined it would. I'm going to try and remember all the flavours - I've tried but three of them - but I can guarantee that whatever you choose, you'll love. My friend and I grabbed a gelato treat on the way back to mine, two scoops each atop a cone... I opted for Ferrero Rocher and pistachio, she went for limoncello and strawberry. Each and every flavour was something else. The pistachio was smooth and captured the tender flavour of said nut, and due to the homemade nature of the stuff wasn't a toxic bright green but a pleasant shade of sandy beige. The Ferrero Rocher is ridiculous. The kind chap who served me ensured I got proper chocolatey bits, and it really is the chocolate treat in creamy form. My friend's limoncello was so good, the very next day my betrothed and I headed back after a hard day's shopping because I know how much he loves lemon desserts. We also shared some Ferrero Rocher and neither flavour disappointed. And they even serve these wares out of the window a la proper ice cream parlour. They're made by a lovely lady called Peta who supplies their gelato, and it's all bloody brilliant. I'll be sure to try the espresso, strawberry and any other flavour on offer very soon. The only problem is that this place is within spitting distance of my flat, and I'm like to find myself here whenever I've a bit of spare change. Oh dear. I wasn't that impressed with Slice. The first two times I visited it was closed which was annoying, especially as it was at lunchtime and not at some weird hour. When I finally did go the staff were a little superior, unlike the pizza which was somewhat soggy and tasteless. I do have high standards for pizza because of the time I spent living in Italy, but my friend was also not that impressed so I don't think I was being unreasonable. I will give them another go and hopefully it will be fourth time lucky and I will have a more positive experience. I like that they have set up an aperitivi bar in the back although didn't see any signs of the typical light bites that accompany aperitivi in northern Italy. read more

Prefect for a quick snack. Slice always has plenty of interesting pizzas to try. True to their name, they sell their pizza by the slice. The pizza is already cooked so you can be sitting down and eating within five minutes. They also offer a choice of gelato, and continental-style outdoor seating. read more

I had heard great things about Slice Pizza, even from Italians - so when we went in for lunch I was really looking forward to tucking into a few slices. I had to limit myself to a couple of slices because the price was a little steep for my liking and the size of the slice you got was snack-size in my opinion. The pizza's were ok - some good flavours and toppings, the base tasted a bit old, like they had been sitting there a while and when re-heated they had a certain chewiness to them. The staff were nice and the venue itself is bigger than you'd expect but it was just lacking any warmth or vavavoom. So overall I have to give it a "meh" 2 out of 5. read more

I'm not as keen as everybody else. It seems nice enough but not somewhere I will make a special effort to return to. I though the interior was pleasant with old Campari drinks ads and a bar in the back, although the front area where you queue to select pizza slices is a bit fast food. I got a fresh fig and pancetta pizza which was unusual and I enjoyed it. However I also got a pizza bianco which was like a pizza sandwich with wafer thin ham (similar to what you get in the supermarket). This was disappointing. I wish I got the one with Gorgonzola instead. I also missed the crispy edges you get on round pizza. Although it was good to be able to try different flavours as you're served in slices. I also wish I realised I could get free olives with the Yelp offer! read more

Slice is my friends and I favourite place in Manchester. It has a genuine continental spirit that not many places in the North West managed to re-create. The terrace feels like you re somewhere in a Mediterranean country. Staff has always been really nice and easy with our sometimes specific orders. Gorgeous wine. I have been keen to sample the many pizza joints of Manchester, and Slice had come up in conversation a couple of times, so came here with a friend on a Friday night. All the many varieties of pizza are on display for you to choose, and I liked how they'd split pizzas into veggie and meat sections at the counter. It had a similar atmosphere to the pizza parlours from when I was living in Madrid, casual but lively. You order at the counter, and then you are given a wooden spoon so that they can bring you your order. Drinks are ordered separately at another bar, which is further along. We sat inside, but there is also an outside seating area. It's a great place to enjoy beer and pizza with friends, and they had some nice Italian beers available. I loved the little vintage pizza delivery van, which is at the back near the toilets. To be honest I was a little disappointed with the quality of the pizza. I had the courgette and mushroom, and chorizo and pepper. These had been reheated and the base was far too crunchy. My friend had Margherita pizza, and described it as "cheese on toast". We didn't try the ice cream, but it looked delicious with many different flavours and colours. This place does have great atmosphere, and I feel it has potential; there's a lot more space and it's more accessible than somewhere like Rudy's pizza. Unfortunately, I felt that the quality of the pizza base let it down. read more

Pleasantly surprised by this place. Wanted somewhere to sit outside on the grief British summer, and chow down. Pop, and some pretty interesting pizza awaited. Really good value, and not the greasy, post night out stuff you come to expect from small places, that you always regret the next morning, when your head aches and your mouth tastes like garlic and shame. The bases were crispy, and topping were great, choose from a range of cheese, cured meats, allsorts, and your classics you expect in a pizza joint. I wanted to love this place, I really did... I have been twice and while I will give it credit for its good pizza, that's all I could call it. Both times I went the pizza was over cooked and very dry. The staff are really nice and the place is very clean and well maintained, keeping its take-away vibe while not making it feel like a dirty choice on a drunken night out. The price is high for the portion size you get and being a greedy git, which I am under no illusion of being, I expect pizza to be an all in meal, I had 3 slices the second time and still felt nowhere near full, though I did abandon it after 2 and a half due to it being rock hard. I will probably drift into this place again in the future and hopefully 3rd times a charm and it'll be amazing like other folk seem to thing... But for now, it's gonna have to stay 2* read more

We came here mid bar crawl for a refuel, ended up staying for a couple of beers as it was the only place nearby with somewhere to sit and no queue at the bar... (totally sound like an old man!) I've been waiting for Slice to open for what seems like ages, I love pizza that's available by the slice as it means I can order as many different flavours as I like and for some reason it just tastes nicer than a whole pizza. When I was walking past the Slice shop on Saturday and noticed that the shutters weren't down I just had to go get a slice. Walking past you can see the giant rectangular pizzas in the window along with an ice cream freezer. From looking in the window you can see that these aren't any normal pizzas, they offer Pizza Bianchi for a start, something which you never normally get in UK pizza shops. I went in and opted for a slice of zucchini pizza topped with a bit of chilli oil and after waiting for two minutes for it to be heated in the oven I promptly demolished the slice in about a minute - it was lovely. I had a quick chat with the guy behind the counter who said that they'll be opening from 8am for pastries and coffee until 1am for the late night trade. A while back I started a list on Yelp of the best pizza places in Manchester, I think we have a new contender. read more

On first inspection Slice just looks like a pizza take out place but once inside you can see that it offers so much more. The dining area is casual and laid back and the bar serves a good range of Italian cocktails such as aperol spritz, Campari and an espresso martini. The slices of pizza cost around £3 and are very tasty but could be bigger for the price but maybe I'm just being greedy. I like the way they serve your order on a wooden board. The pizza toppings are very interesting with choices like fig and ham, courgette flower and anchovy as well as roasted red pepper and pesto. Confession - the first time I stopped by here I'd had a few 'lemonades' and don't remember it. Luckily I went again this past weekend! It was late so they were just serving out of the shutter and we bought a few slices between us - my goodness they were lovely. So tasty and very fresh considering the time of night! Ace portion sizes too, and they're in squares so you can fill your box much better :) Really do need to go in for a sit down dinner though - those desserts are calling me... read more
