The "cage" he set up probably got squirrels out of the attic, but he said he sealed the hole so they wouldn't get back in. We have heard those scurrying claws up there every breeding season since! Update: I was contacted by the district manager this afternoon and he apologized for my experience. Since they didn't get rid of the skunk, they are sending me a full refund. This is definitely a company that is trying to make it right with its customers. And they are working to correct the email issue. Thank you, Justin. The noises from my crawl space resumed several days after Aaron removed the one-way trap. My sales rep, Devin, would not respond to my texts or calls. Since I had already spent close to $1,000 with Critter Control, I tried to get rid of the pest myself. Eventually, I finally found a local wildlife and pest service company that came out the day after I called and installed a camera. The following morning, they sent me a video of the skunk walking around in my crawl space. Obviously, the one-way trap didn't work, so I had to pay someone else (who was much more reasonably priced), to remove the skunk. If Devin had responded to me, they could have at least re-installed the one-way trap. BTW. When their customer service responded to my initial review asking me to contact them, the email address she gave me sent my email back as undeliverable. My advice is to find a local company to help you that actually cares. read more

Hired Critter Control to try to take care of our mole problem. The first application is very expensive but the deal was if needed they'd come back and do a second treatment for a substantial amount less. The first treatment did nothing to help. When I tried emailing them to ask that they to do a second treatment they never responded, and this after three attempts. A complete waste of money. read more

We had several soffit holes that were made by squirrels. Tim Perez (field service) covered the holes with flashing. Tim did an excellent job. This kind of work requires a lot of craftsmanship. Called them to have them visit my house for a mouse problem. They said it was a free trip to do the evaluation. Then I noted that the house was rented and they said "oh well that's $129 then because we have to deal with both the tenant and the landlord." Untrue, they still only have to deal with one person (myself) and it's not like this is a big commercial operation. I'm just one person with a rental unit and I don't appreciate being gouged. I don't even mind paying a service fee if it's applied to all residences, but I do mind being gouged for being an income earning property, veiled as some BS excuse about having to deal with multiple people. I don't like to write bad reviews. And it's important for others to know this!! Especially single women! Critter Control told me I had a SEVERE mouse infestation of my crawl space along with standing water. They quoted TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS to take care of it. He told me I needed to take up the vapor barrier and replace it, that I needed to remove all the insulation because it was infested with mice, it needed to be baited and all the vents needed to be plugged. After calling multiple companies to come out and give me a second quote I found out that my vents are already sealed!!!!!! Also, the vapor barrier does NOT need to be removed and not only do I not have a severe mice infestation but Ive I likely only had a few mice in the crawlspace. For a total of $500 all issues have been addressed!! The standing water was addressed by Alternative Air (excellent, honest company!!!) and bulwark exterminating came out and baited for mice. Critter Control tried to scam me for $10,000!!!!! DO NOT USE CRITTER CONTROL! One of the pest control companies that came out told me that Critter Control had also tried to charge another woman thousands of dollars to get rid of three bats in her attic. read more

Did what they said they would do, but unbelievably expensive. This was just for deterrence, not any actual wildlife removal. The $99 inspection was really just selling, not much if any inspection. After seeing what experts do, it seems there's no secret sauce, so I recommend buying the materials and doing it yourself or get a handyman. read more

Critter Control in Durham wanted 83% of the fee for the job up front, before the work was even scheduled. 50% of the job price, plus $99 quote fee, which they claim will be deducted in the end. That much down before the job is performed or even scheduled is excessive and not a normal business practice for reputable businesses. read more

We had an infestation of some unknown "critters" in our attic. They destroyed the insulation (which was already old and patted down), and were coming in through several small areas around the dormers on our roof. I emailed Critter Control, and the folks in the office were very responsive, sending Al to see us right away. He inspected the attic and the roof and was able to determine quickly that we had a squirrel problem. Within a couple of days, the trap was set on the roof as they tried to leave through the holes they created. Next step, the crew came out to remove the trap, screen all the holes, removed the ruined insulation and replaced it. A week later, we found a baby squirrel (probably the offspring of the adult squirrels caught in the trap) living in the area above the study. This squirrel found a tiny entry point elsewhere. I phone Critter Control, and Al was on the job again. They caught the squirrel, and screened the entry point, and they didn't charge me for this one. If you care at all about the animals you're trying to get rid of, ask specific questions about what they do after an animal is trapped. Unfortunately, I didn't ask the right questions when I contracted with this company, and didn't know what I was agreeing to since the service agreement wasn't sent until after the traps were set. Despite being completely annoyed with the squirrels in our attic after they chewed through our bedroom ceiling, I was NOT ready to have dead squirrels on my conscience. Our initial appointment was cancelled by the company 30minutes prior to expected arrival and rescheduled for a date a couple weeks later (life happens; no harm no foul). But by the time they came out again, the temperature had dropped to below freezing at night. The service agreement (reminder: sent via email *after* the traps were already set) states that any animal trapped after 12pm would be removed the following day. Traps were set at 3pm and a squirrel was caught by 5:10pm, and now we had a trapped, terrified animal constantly clawing at the cage, completely exposed to high winds and below-freezing temperatures overnight on the roof right outside our bedroom window. I called the main office and was told no one could come out until early the next morning even though the hours posted here say they're open 24hrs. I asked directly if they were okay with dead squirrels - "sorry, there's nothing we can do". Thankfully there were roofers in the neighborhood and they were willing to cover the trapped squirrel with a blanket to help protect her from the biting wind and cold, and she was still alive the next morning. The guy who came to clear the trap was kind and understanding and assured me that she would be released humanely. He said he was confident there were no more squirrels in the attic and that he'd adequately blocked the entry points, so we asked for the traps to be removed. This understandably voided the 12month warranty since we didn't agree to continued trapping over the next several below-freezing temperature days. All in all, we paid $400 for (hopefully) humane removal of one squirrel and repair of entry points. They did what they were hired to do, but I wish I had asked more specific questions about the process. Several reviews here mention humane removal of problematic animals, but the company seems to be okay with letting a trapped animal die a slow, inhumane death. If my goal was dead squirrels, I would've asked for lethal traps (which were offered) or just put out poison like our neighbor does. So, if you're an animal lover maybe consider a different company... or wait until spring. read more

The team that came to my house was not only on time but a little early. They did exactly what they said they would do in the time frame that was given for the work. The service men were very polite and took time to answer all my questions. The office staff called me ahead of time and worked with my schedule. My job was a multi visit job and there were several steps involved. I never had to call them.... they always called me when it was time for the next step of the job. I took exception that they wanted $99 to come tell me how much they were going to charge me to remove a squirrel I already know needs to be removed. If you are the owner of this company you really need to stop gouging potential customers and provide a real service. I can see charging me $99 for coming out and then I choose not to use your service...but this 'show up fee' is nothing more than me paying for your beach house. Read their contract very carefully. Not only do they charge for setting traps, showing up, investigating but they charge per animal. There are other services that are just as responsive and much less expensive. read more

Please read! I recently had a raccoon issue in my attic. I followed their expert advice and had the raccoon trapped (killed). I was told there weren't any alternatives since they were required by law to kill the animal. But speaking with another reputable wildlife company after the trapping, apparently, there were other options available. This was heartbreaking to learn after the fact. Especially since the raccoon was a nursing female and left several babies trapped in our walls/ceiling. We were told there wasn't any alternative but to wait until they starved to death. Afterwhich, they could be located from the carrion stains left on our ceiling and the bodies extracted. This was absolutely horrible! The animals suffered for over a week before their cries were no longer audible. Our home now smells of decay and no one can pinpoint the spot so our only option is to start cutting holes in the ceiling. To find out that all of this could have been avoided by luring the mother and her young out to relocate is extremely troubling. I would certainly use another service to humanely handle any critter problem you have. I'm not even sure they filed the necessary paperwork with the wildlife commission. The office and technician were fast to respond and polite but that doesn't seem to matter much to me anymore. read more

Unprofessional. We told them we had birds/chicks that came through a vent and were nesting inside the ac unit upstairs in the house. We could see poop on the side of the house and they were chirping non-stop. Critter Control charged us $99 to come out AND the guy did not even come upstairs to take a look. Seriously? We didn't pay him money for him to look at the vent outside and tell us he saw a momma bird fly in and out so there are definitely birds/chicks.... yes we know! We called to have them removed ASAP. He said he can't remove them and we would have to wait a month for the babies to be able to fly and they will come back to reassess/install bird guards and work on getting them out then. We were ok at first but then after thinking about it... we could not wait a month and have our vents and ducts ruined even more with bird poop and breathing in whatever they carry. We went with another company who also charged a service fee+removal fee to come out but GUARANTEED they were able to remove or else there would not be a service fee. Long story short and no thanks to Critter Control, the other company was able to remove the birds/chicks. I called customer service to try to get at least a partial refund because the service technician did absolutely nothing at all when he came out. He did not step foot inside to even attempt to look at where they were. I was pretty much told, sorry too bad, that's the cost a service call. Everyone beware. read more

I used them to remove bats in the eaves. They initially came out and did an estimate which I was happy with so I put a GENEROUS deposit down over the phone. I received an email with the estimate and pictures that day. Then they came back a week later and put up wire mesh and escape valves for the bats. I found out after later inspection they only put an escape valve on one side. I called back because there were bats trapped and panicking on one side of the house. I thought this to be very cruel since they could not come back out till Monday (this was Thursday) they assured me the bats would be OK without food or water. They came Monday morning and put in the extra valve and all was fine. I received a second invoice and paid on line within the week. They came back about 3 weeks later and did the clean up. He did a fine job cleaning but did not put any plastic or covering on my hall carpet when going up in the attic. When he left he vacuumed but I still had some bat droppings on the floor so I vacuumed again. I was assuming I would get a final invoice and clean up pics and a chance to pay but instead I got a receipt .....yes that's right they never sent an invoice and ran my credit card WITHOUT approval. Thank God I had gotten paid that day or my outstanding stuff would have bounced. I think this is highly unprofessional so if you deal with them make sure not to give them your credit card info or you will have a surprise receipt show up!!!!!! read more

There are not a lot of choices for this kind of service. We had used them before and they did a good job. This time we had evidence of past visits from bats and squirrels in our attic, and also had some holes the critters had eaten in some exterior boards near our attic, and wanted to get the situation under control once and for all. We were charged a non-refundable $50 for the inspection. He was on time and did not take long. He delivered a quote right away that included photos of problem areas. We called Critter Control to schedule the work but were told to contact the gentleman that had sent us the quote, he would contact the office, who would then call us to set up an appointment. This took a week. They did call and set up an appointment for noon on a Saturday - they were working on the weekend to make up for some rain days - which was fine. Noon came and went and no Critter Control. Later that day, after hanging around all day, my wife had pretty much given up on them when they showed up around 4:00. They had been delayed on other jobs, including an emergency squirrel removal in Cary. They completed the work and did what appears to be a first rate job. We were a little nonplussed that they didn't have the consideration to phone/text/email us that they were running so far behind on Saturday. read more

I heard strange noises in my attic (and these suckers are early risers, believe me!) and went up there with a flashlight looking for the critter that was causing the noise. I found a squirrel that had made a nest in my attic insulation and I came downstairs and called Critter Control immediately. Unfortunately the technicians were taking their state license tests that very week so they were not able to come out for a couple days while everyone got re-certified to treat wildlife infestations. Bad timing and lost sleep for me but no ones fault. By the time we got the required work (a week after the diagnosis and suggested remediation) these little nesting babies had become destructive little verminous nuisances. I am happy to report that the traps they set up have captured two of the annoying menaces BUT the saga is not over yet! We will eventually get this done but I think I still have two of the juveniles that are refusing to comply with my eviction notice. I will report back when this situation is completely resolved but so far I feel like they are been responsive. It is very expensive but I guess one must expect that to get squatters removed to a more suitable location. read more

We called Critter Control for bats that had entered our attic and when Justin came to inspect and give us our estimate, found that we had both bats AND flying squirrels!! Yikes! Justin was thorough and knowledgable and LOVES bats (and snakes, but luckily we didn't have those). The team came out and did a professional job sealing up all the areas that needed attention, and the day they came to remove the bat check valves, it was in the high 80's (can't imagine what the attic temp was), and Chip went up to the do the attic clean-up, which wasn't even scheduled that day. It was hot and I assured him it would be fine to schedule it when the weather cooled down, but he insisted on getting the job done and 40 min later & a few pounds lighter from sweating, came down happily to report our job was complete. This team was great to work with from Myra in the office doing the scheduling to the crews that came out to the house. It's not cheap, but worth it in the end. Would highly recommend. read more
