I rarely visit Goodwill--probably about once every one or two months, usually on Sundays. I buy my clothes and shoes at Costco or on Amazon, where they are actually even cheaper than at Goodwill. Due to my former profession, I suffer from arthritis in both hands; both of my thumbs are quite painful. I find it easier to shop using a handheld basket rather than a shopping cart. Goodwill, however, does not provide handheld baskets--only carts. Whenever I went to Goodwill, I would typically bring along a small plastic bag to hold the items I intended to purchase, and I always paid for everything at the checkout counter. (At Costco, I usually shop with my wife, who pushes the cart.) This had been my routine for the past two years, ever since the arthritis developed in my fingers and I never encountered any issues with it until a new security guard appeared at this particular Goodwill store, a short Black man (who appeared to be an immigrant from North Africa). He noticed the plastic bag I was carrying and summoned the store manager. (This took place around late December 2025, on a Monday.) I do not know what the security guard said to the manager, but the manager approached me, I was in the electronics section at the time and looked inside my plastic bag, which contained two items, each priced at $1.99. The manager (a tall white man) removed the two items from the bag and instructed me to leave the store. I was baffled as to why; he did not accuse me of shoplifting, he simply told me to leave the premises and not to return to this Goodwill store for a period of one year. He offered no explanation for his actions. I certainly do not look like a homeless person; in fact, my clothing was visibly nicer than the manager's own attire. I suspect the security guard probably told him that I was a thief, even though he had absolutely no grounds to do so. I visited this Goodwill a second time six months later--on Sunday, May 17th. I didn't have a plastic bag; I was simply holding three small items in my hands and got in line at the checkout to pay for my purchases. That same security guard spotted me and demanded that I leave the store. I asked, "Why?" He replied that I was a thief and was not allowed to come there. I had been inside Goodwill for about an hour, and he hadn't stopped me when I first entered. I told him that I was standing in line and intended to buy the items I was holding. He made a phone call, brought over a store employee, and instructed all the cashiers not to serve me. In front of everyone, he began accusing me of shoplifting. Never in my entire life have I been insulted or humiliated like this. I took out my wallet and showed him my driver's license, Medicare card, cash, and several credit cards; I swore--more than ten times--that I had never stolen anything in my life. Yet the security guard continued to insist that I was a thief and demanded that I leave the store. As I was leaving, I asked the security guard to tell me his name. He refused and said that he had taken a picture of my license plate number. I am seeking a response from the Goodwill administration regarding the wrongful actions and insults committed by their security guard.

The Edmonds Waterfront Center (EWC) located at 220 Railroad Ave in Edmonds, Washington, is a true…read moregem in the Puget Sound region. We go to the EWC regularly when we visit Edmonds. It's right on the waterfront, on a pretty stretch of beach where you can see the ferries coming in and out. Formerly the South County Senior Center, then the Edmonds Senior Center, the buildings there were rebuilt into an environmentally-sound, multi-generational and multicultural center with all kinds of classes, programs, clinics, and events. My hubs and I went to the EWC last night to see wildlife photographer and author Paul Bannick speak about his new book on woodpeckers in North America. It was a fascinating talk and slideshow in their big room on the first floor! This is just one example of the great speakers and performers that the EWC hosts all the time. They have rooms with beautiful views of the water that you can rent. Last December, we went to a memorial there for a longtime family friend and it was a great place to honor her and her legacy. When I am retired, or when I can carve out more time in my schedule, I plan on taking advantage of the many classes offered at the EWC. For now, I'll keep going to their terrific events and enjoying the wonderful view.

The people at training were great - nutrition majors, foodies, chefs all mingling in a philanthropic pow wow. The training was hands on and interactive, and I really like Solid's Ground's focus on diversity, equality, respect and education as a way to help the community. Super cool place! They require you to mask up before entering, but they provide them if you don't have one on hand. There's always a couple loving dogs milling around, and I love how they allow visitors to provide socialization to these fur babies through visits/walks! Whenever I'm able to walk a dog, I take them just a short trip up the road (less than 10 min) to Gas Works Park! I love that walkers are provided with a convenient little bag packed with treats, poop bags, and a water bowl. I've thoroughly enjoyed my time with the dogs and it especially helps in times when i'm missing my own pups! In fact, we even got pushed out later as we were told there would be a therapist who would have flexibility in their schedules. The day of the appointment I received a call from Julia in the morning to prepared us for the appointment. An hour before our visit I got another call from Julia saying our insurance was inactive. I immediately got on the phone and called my sons insurance and made sure to get things all squared away. His insurance was completely active. I am mediately called Julia after confirming my sons insurance was active, and no response from her. We arrive for appointment on time only to be denied care. The last few months was a complete waste of time as we waited for an appointment slot. I did everything in my power to correct the situation with such short notice. Only to have my son and I turned away in person. A phone call would've sufficed. Or even a response to my call. I find this program to be extremely unprofessional as well as Julia's lack of respect and communication for us as a potential patient. If you are looking for therapy for your child, Julia, is not the one to assist you properly.
