The first picture is immediately after I was tattooed (by Dale) and the second was the day after I took off the wrapping. All in all I'd say it was a very good experience! My friend and I went in on a Saturday for walk ins around 2pm (driver got lost and we live on the west side so our plan to get their early failed) and we put our names down in hopes that at least we'd get tattooed the following day. The woman at the front was very welcoming and informative in both person and when we called with questions of concern beforehand. She told us that there were slim chances of being tattooed that day because of there being only one artist in and we were the 4th/5th names on the list (understandably enough, and as expected) but they would call us 30 minutes beforehand otherwise. We went out for a bit and got a call around 4 telling us another artist had come in and if we'd like we could get tattooed that day - to which of course we agreed We went in , I showed the artist (Dale) my drawings and we worked to figure out where and how we wanted it tattooed. He was very good for warning us about the pain - it was our first tattoo - and for making sure everything was how we liked it. He was nice, professional and very talented. I was overall very pleased with how it came out and how the staff was MOST IMPORTANTLY : this location was very very clean and took all necessary hygienic and legal precautions which was also very reassuring. Are other artist look at it to make sure there wasn't anything we hadn't picked up on. If you're getting American Traditional, he's the guy to go to in Edmonton. The shop is big, there is plenty of space everywhere, they have TVs with awesome shows on. They also have individual rooms. I recently had a tattoo completed at Crimson Empire. Right from the start, it was a great experience. Booking my consultation online was a breeze & I was able to send through photos of my (then) current tattoo and inspirational photos of what I was looking for. Communication was concise, quick and friendly. Jess Doyle completed my tattoo and she was absolutely lovely! Everything was excellent, right from the initial consultation to my first (lining) appointment and then my second (shading) appointment. I couldn't be happier with the unique piece she created for me and I've already received so many compliments... and it's still healing! All aspects of this project was easy. Everything was explained to me from booking to my final payment. I felt comfortable the whole way through and I would absolutely go back to Crimson. The building was modern, fun and clean! I've had good experiences with this shop. They are professional and clean and all their artists seem like they are very talented. A lot of good work comes out of Crimson Empire. They only take cash though so be prepared. They also have an ATM machine so if you didn't bring cash you can withdraw at the shop, but it costs 2 or 3 dollars. I went for a tattoo coverup and then a touch up for that coverup about a month apart. Both times they were very friendly and helpful. My artist was Jessica and she was able to provide and draw up a design that I really liked and a design that was also efficient in covering up an old tattoo. She worked fast and the tattoo was done well. The only thing is their rate is $150 per hour with an additional 15 dollars of service/equipment charge fee on top of whatever you are already payer. Add that to whatever you decide to tip your artist as well. They are a good, clean, friendly and welcoming tattoo shop. read more

I have known about Crimson Empire for years through friends, but never went due to living in Toronto. Finding the location can prove a bit tricky. It is across from the Edmonton City Centre airport in the back corner of a strip of stores. When arriving to the location, it is very inconspicuous. However when you walk in you are certainly reminded that you are in a tattoo shop. Plenty of artwork on the walls, a seating area and a front end desk for the pleasant counter staff to greet you at. The space is huge with more than adequate room space for each artist. The skills of each artist are very high in calibre. I got my first tattoo ever done at this studio. Not being very people friendly I am always anxious when I have to go to a business I am not familiar with. That said the staff at Crimson made me feel very welcome. The shop is bright, clean and very welcoming. All the staff were very courteous and personable. Sadly the artist that did my tattoo is no longer there but I got the impression, and saw the evidence in the artists look books, that all of the artists there would be very capable of giving you a tattoo and an experience you would want to express to your friends. read more

I got my first tattoo about a month ago. My wife and I went in to get a couples tattoo of jack and Sally from nightmare before Christmas. We had looked at lots of different ones but the work that Sheila had done with them was phenomenal. Not because it's mine but by far the best one out of any of the work we looked at. I got my first tattoo done at Crimson Empire and right from the get go it was a wonderful experience. I had originally planned to go to three different tattoo shops that were well reviewed and decided where I wanted to go from there but after my first stop at Crimson I didn't feel the need to look any further. The girl working at the counter was friendly and upbeat the whole time I talked to her, she helped me out with everything and answered all of my questions, no problem. I was booked for my consultation with Ashley and I came back a week later to discuss what I wanted. As I only wanted font, the consultation was short and sweet, but none the less she made sure she had everything I wanted and even gave me her email to contact her for changes. I was booked a month later to come back for the actual tattoo and the third visit proved to be just as good as the first two. Ashley was great the whole time, she put up with me changing the stencil over and over and in the end did an excellent job. As the tattoo was only font it was done in no time, but since it did cover the length of my right rib cage Ashley made sure to check up on me throughout the process. Overall the people were great, they treated me with respect and answered all of my questions; the art, both on display and in the portfolios looked very impressive; and the shop was well managed and clean. My only negative was the fact I had to wait over a month to get the actual tattoo, though I see now why there is such a wait and I have to say it was well worth it. From my experience I plan on coming back for more, though I have the goal of getting an actual image done by someone there, not just font. Thanks Crimson! read more

I cannot say enough great things about this shop and in particular, my artist! The shop is extremely clean and everyone working there is very friendly and professional. The front end staff are great, which makes the booking/checking in/paying processes very easy! This wasn't my first tattoo, but for anyone considering Crimson as a location for their first (or fifth, or fifteenth), I would highly recommend it - the atmosphere is very welcoming and relaxed. There are always movies playing while I'm there, which is a fantastic distraction from the discomfort. I found Sydney's portfolio online after researching many different artists in the Edmonton and Calgary area for my thigh pieces. Her style was exactly what I was looking for, so I booked in for a consult. I gave Sydney a rough idea of what I was looking for, and then pretty much let her do the rest - and I could not be happier with what she came up with. Her workspace is clean and organized, and she is very friendly, which makes long sittings much easier. I am now six sittings in on my legs, and I am constantly blown away by how crisp and beautiful Sydney's work is. As soon as my works in progress are completed, I know I will be back for more. My recent visit to Crimson Empire was fantastic. The shop is fairly spacious, particularly in the lobby/waiting room. Staff at the front desk were very friendly and seemed excited, which gave a great first impression. There were many different rooms in which tattoo equipment was set up, and it looked like clients got a lot of privacy during the tattooing process. The shop was very clean and organized. I felt extremely at ease with respect to the atmosphere in general. Sheila is a very skilled tattoo artist, and took what little description I gave her and turned it into something beautiful. She is relaxed and easygoing and made getting tattooed a great experience. I am definitely interested in getting more work done by her! The two of us happened to be located next to another artist working on a client, and therefore between all of us chatting and loud background music it was a bit noisy. I've been tattooed in both noisy and quiet environments and I don't really have a preference, so this was totally fine with me. Another thing I noticed while at the shop is that other staff/artists would occasionally come by and check out what we were doing, and everyone seemed to get along. This is also something that put me at ease; it seemed that we were working in a supportive and considerate environment. I only got the tattoo 3 days ago so I have yet to see it fully healed but both my tattoo and my touch up on an old one feel and look great so far. Just got my fifth tattoo, and the first one at Crimson Empire. I got my tat from Lee, and he's fantastic! He's a great guy to talk to, and did a fantastic job. I got my tattoo on my chest, and it's one of the more painful areas to get tattoos, and he was so calm and worked both fast and careful. I would go there again in a second. I went in today for just a consultation at 7:30pm with Chad. He informed me that the guy he was supposed to tattoo that night didn't show up and asked if I wanted his spot, as he is booked up until May. I obviously took the opportunity. Chad was AMAZING! There is obviously a reason he is booked until mid-May. He was so friendly and helped to keep me calm by chatting with me throughout the whole thing. I got some script done on my foot, and it looks amazing. I met some other staff when I was there and everyone seemed so nice and helpful. I definitely recommend this place to anyone. I've had work done here twice and both times the tattoo was great! Super clean, private rooms. The atmosphere is relaxed and a little punk rock but not intimidating! With all tattoo shops.... you really can't rate the shop. Each artist has their own level of expertise, style and customer service and likability. Just because I like my artist doesn't mean that you will mesh with her. Shop around, and make sure you are comfortable. Don't agree to get a tattoo you are not sure about just because you are scared of pissing off the artist. If they are not willing to make minor adjustments, they are not the artist for you. One of the front desk staff is a bit scattered, and told me that my artist moved to Calgary. I booked with another artist, and he was so confused because my original artist still worked there. The front desk staff blamed the mistake on me, but I chalk that up to a big load of meth being inhaled in her lungs...? Possibly? You have to expect a little cray sometimes! read more

And went back to the shop to talk with the ''artist'' but i was dealt with much attitude. I just got my first tattoo from here this past Saturday (as a walk in) and it was a great experience. The shop is very very clean. One of the front girls must have cleaned 4 or 5 times while i was there, even cleaned the door handles which i was impressed by. Sydney did my foot tattoo and she was awesome. I went in with an idea of placement etc, but she educated me all about foot tattoos and told me where the best spot would be to get it so it doesn't fade as quickly. Being that this was my first tattoo, naturally my anxiety was through the roof, but she was very relaxed and patient with me. Told me to just suck it up a couple times which to be honest, i needed to hear haha. I would definitely definitely go back. After talking with a few friends, and telling them their fee is minimum $150/hr + mandatory $15 sterilization fee, it does seem they are pretty pricey. I personally wouldn't know as this is my first tattoo so i didn't really know what the going rate was, but it is what it is, it is a very clean shop and i felt comfortable the entire time so maybe it balances itself out. Bring cash or credit card though, they dont accept debit. Or they have a generic ATM as well. The last thing i will note is i went in as a walk in and if this is your plan as well, BE THERE EARLY. They open at Noon. My friend and i got there at 10:45 and there were already a couple people sitting in their vehicles. By 11:45 the line was about 10 people deep and they can only take so many people so be there early early! read more

Wow, what an amazing experience! I walked in one day with an idea for the half-sleeve I'd planned for a few years (just to be sure I wanted it!). First off, walking into Crimson Empire is like walking into an alternative-style spa, with high ceilings, dark tiled floors, funky paint, and a large fountain in the corner. I explained my idea to the girl at the front desk, and she immediately recommended two artists. Thanks to a last-minute cancellation, I got a consultation with Pat Berube the same day. His suggestions clicked with my idea right away. At my first appointment I LOVED the art; it was even more beautiful than what I'd pictured! Over the course of my 4 sessions, I was very happy with the art he did, his recommendations for how much we should do at a time, and how to improve healing. I get compliments almost daily about my tattoo, as well as a small one that Sheila did. If you're considering getting work done, CE is really the place to go! They also do walk-ins for small pieces on Saturdays if you're just dipping your toe into the tattoo pool. Highly recommend!!! read more
