The appearance of this establishment is off putting extremely. Upon entry the staff (All but one female) was very unhappy it seemed and didn't offer any help. We tried a little of everything off the buffet - it was decent. The steak quesadilla is such a let down / see my photo there's no meat ! The tamale had zero meat. The mole was very bland chicken. The rice was too grainy like undercooked. The flavors of the salsas were amazing though! The horchata was AMAZING ! The Chile was decent. Overall decent food but lacking overall on appearance, staff moral, and flavors . My boyfriend and I have eaten the buffet here many times and we have always enjoyed it. However, when my boyfriend wanted to order it and have it delivered for dinner tonight, I was hesitant because I didn't think the quality would be as good. I was so wrong. It was hands down THE BEST Mexican food I have ever had in Columbus. The quality and flavor were on a whole new level! This is a buffet style fast food sold by the pound. Fantastic Mexican food at a reasonable price. The beef fajitas were mildly seasoned, rice fluffy , beans creamy but not watery and the tacos bulging with ground beef or whatever you select. The tortillas were like homemade. Saw online this was the best buffet in all of Georgia. Decided to stop in after hitting the PX on Ft Benning. Needless to say we were not disappointed! They had a great variety of food from traditional dishes such as beef and chicken fajitas and enchiladas to chile rellenos and to marinated beef and fried fish. Outright repulsive. Every article of food was soggy, totally lacking flavor, or so loaded with strange mistakes and ingredient substitutions that made my stomach roil. The enchiladas, rather than being topped with enchilada sauce, had italian-style canned stewed tomatoes dumped on top. I have no clue what's going on. There was no individual menu item that was well executed. These are some of my favorite foods, and I would have gladly accepted even mediocre versions of them, but absolutely every menu item I touched was inedible. Beans and rice, meats (ground beef with some zip, tender beef in a chile verde sauce, chorizo with potatoes), finished items (quesadillas, enchiladas, taquitos), and make it yourself items (tacos, chips and cheese sauce, fajitas). 3. Ordered the horchata. Pretty sure it was all you can drink too, for $1.79. Slightly watered down from ice but definitely homemade. 4. Started eating with my hands when the fork was slowing me down. 5. Saved room for dessert. Cinnamon and sugar chips, churros and watermelon. What I did wrong: 1. Came too late. They weren't making tamales anymore. She said come back tomorrow. Tomorrow?! Girl, I'm still gonna be in food coma in 24 hours. 2. Ate too much too soon, got too full too quick. Should have paced myself. 3. Didn't know to buy a pair of jeggings. With an elastic waist I could have fit more in my belly. The best $7.49 I've ever spent on dinner. read more

Me and my wife are in town and decided to try one of the local restaurants for dinner. We love traditional Mexican food and given the many 5-star reviews, it was a no-brainer. The food was insanely good and the whole staff was super helpful and very friendly. All of the front house staff spoke fluent Spanish and English, and did their best to make us feel at home. You can't beat the price either, we both filled our plates and got drinks, and our total was only $15. Phenomenal service by such an amazing team! When you pull up to La Nacional Mexican Buffet, you will probably say 'is this the right place?' Yes, it is. Tucked into a very small strip-mallish set of businesses, the outside is pretty plain and I almost had a hard time believing that this place was the same place shown on yelp with almost 5 stars. But the food really speaks for itself. It's seriously delicious, fresh, and the variety should please any person. The place is clean, the staff is friendly, and when I went it was only like 8 or 10 bucks for all you can eat lunch buffet. Foods I personally ate that were amazing: Beef Tacos, Steak Tacos, Chicken Tacos, Tamales, Chimichangas, Quesadillas, Chips, Salsa, unlimited amounts of guacamole, Burritos, some soup that was good, and insane amounts of rice and beans. Everything was delicious. Like Louis CK said: The meal isn't done when I'm full, the mean is over when I hate myself. Also: I somehow finished my meal with a churro despite being wonderfully stuffed full of delicious Mexican food. This is not an exaggeration: best churro I've ever had in my entire life. I was introduced to La Nacional by a friend. I never knew the restaurant existed because it is located in a hidden corner of a street intersection. The first thing I want to say is that the restaurant is a "hole in the wall" but that would be too harsh. It is actually a step up but I would not bring a first or second date there for sure. It is clean enough but a bit loud sometimes with the background music. The seating and tables are functional and that is about it. Nothing more, nothing less. But let's get to the food. It is wonderful but it can be rich. While I am not qualified to say it is Mexican "authentic", it sure tastes authentic to me. In other words, I have been to Taco Bell and a few sit-down Mexican and Tex-Mex restaurants which tend to "Americanize" the food. But at La Nacional, I find the food authentic, flavorful, rich, and yes, a bit heavy. Eating at this buffet will likely put you into a food coma afterwards. For those of you going there for lunch, you will enjoy it but you might suffer afterwards when you feel like you want to go take a nap. I've gone during evenings or weekends and every time, I come out full and want to go take a nap. It is the price I willingly pay when I eat there. I can tell you when I am there, I see all kind of working guys packing the food away. They often come in small groups. They love the quantity (and presumably) the quality of food there also. The service is adequate, not stellar. But what the heck, we are talking about a buffet, not a high-end French restaurant. I want to give this place 5-stars but I think what holds me back is that the place can get loud and the decor can be improved a bit. But otherwise, I really enjoyed the authentic food, its flavor, and cooking style. read more
