Bark Busters Home Dog Training San Diego

Bark Busters came to us highly recommended. After some research and reviewing Ted Talk and…read morearticles, I signed up our two rescue mix breed ~20lb boys. We are grateful to James of BB who placed us with Jenna. Our boys issues: high reactivity outside, especially other dogs, and inside, door bell, ring cameras, etc. Coupled with greetings by jumping and owning the house. Jenna set us on a path of activities for inside and was incredibly patient letting me share and ask questions, learning constantly. As we fine-tuned and we all got more comfortable we moved our training to outside. The methodology used is absolutely amazing and, I dare say, short of a miracle. We practice regularly and introduce the boys to different circumstances. All that food luring and positive food reinforcement training certainly has its place but only the techniques of BB with Jenna has helped our boys become trusting, comfortable, and happy. Here I thought I had to scan the horizon constantly to be aware of incoming dogs to prepare myself to hide behind a car or go in the corner behind garbage cans to get maximum distance. Not true. I walk no longer with my head on a lazy susan. We all are forever grateful. Our boys can lead richer more social lives. Thank you!!!

As first-time dog owners, the early support really did help us. Having someone we could call during those overwhelming first months was a relief. Over time, though, I realized I was hoping the training would shift toward more positive reinforcement. The constant, harsher corrections worked at first but eventually didn't seem effective anymore and started affecting my relationship with Mimi. I noticed this during a family trip where Mimi, who is usually fearful of strangers, bonded more easily with my husband and his family. She gravitated toward them when scared, and I realized it might be because they weren't following the correction-heavy approach, while I was. I also asked for help with Mimi's fear and reactivity toward other dogs, but was told they didn't have dogs available for training and that I would need to bring a calm, socialized dog myself. As a non-trainer, that was very hard, but we tried by traveling many hours to introduce her to my husband's family dog. The experience ended up being chaotic since the family didn't fully understand what the process required, and new people and dogs kept appearing even though Mimi wasn't ready. Her reactivity came back in that environment, which made me feel like the training had only put a bandaid on deeper fear issues. Maybe I should have clarified expectations better from the start, but with a high-need dog and being new to all of this, I didn't know what to expect. Since then, we've switched to a positive reinforcement trainer who organizes structured group activities. Mimi is still scared of bigger dogs and can still be reactive, but she's improving slowly and has been able to meet a few smaller dogs. She's also still fearful of people, but she nips a lot less now, so progress is happening. Overall, Bark Busters helped us in the beginning, but long-term we found that a different, more positive approach has been a better fit for Mimi.

This is review is for my conversations with the staff and the owner , not for services rendered…read more I have a dog that needed to be seen by a vet and I knew it would probably be an expensive visit based on what I thought was happening. So I started to research vets in TJ , Mexico because I've heard about some other pet parents traveling down there for more affordable pet care. After researching quite a few , I contacted Vet Playas because based on Yelp they seemed to be at the top of their game compared to all others in that area. They also were open over the weekend and others were not based upon the hours provided. I was contacted by Ron , who I believe is the owner. He let me know that a front desk person would be contacting me shortly. I was contacted via Whats App by the front desk staff and they gave me pricing on all the procedures I'd asked about. The exam is a little less than what the states charge, however all the other procedures were much less expensive than having them done stateside. Ron texted me & then we spoke for a good amount of time going over what might be the issue with my dog and the various procedures that may have to be done to diagnose. He also gave me pricing for all of those things. He was very patient, informative, and not pushy. Thankfully my dog's original issue was resolved so I didn't end up using Vet Playas services. However, I would definitely consider them if I need vet services again based upon my conversation with Ron. I suggest to those that do not speak Spanish well, use a translator when speaking to the other staff so there are no miscommunications. Google has a translator you can enter text in whatever your language is to translate into Spanish and vice versa.

Now I understand why their prices aren't listed. My 13 yr old chihuahua has some bumps and a big mass around her neck. I went in for a check up, at 13 years old I understand her health isn't the best. I made the appt for last wed March 4th. Wait time was normal about 15-20 mins. Th vet was with us maybe 10 mins, the surprising thing is in those 10 mins she took maybe 10-15 coming up with the bill of $16k pesos. The office spent more time calculating the optional services than actually telling me anything that could give my doggie comfort or even suggest anything outside of the ridiculous quote. I truly believe my biggest mistake was telling them I was coming in from Pasadena in case I was a bit late. Outside of the exam which they say was an oncology exam, they did absolutely nothing other than charging me $1000 pesos. Regular exam is between $300-$450 pesos, they also did grooming for $700. That seemed reasonable, even the grooming they did alot more than the Vet did just measuring her lump and rushing to give me the price. The moment I said I didn't want to do the 7-8 different exams the Vet quoted me on because of her age and honestly the cost, she lost interest and pretty much walked out. I thanked them and told myself never to return and will also pass that experience to anyone who asks.

The usual vet we go to was closing before we arrived. I found this place. I was iffy due to the 2.5 stars on Yelp. But it has 4.7 on Google so I decided to give it a try. Be aware they take time to respond to online messages or emails. For the quickest response, call them. I called in advance to let them know the situation and our ETA. We arrived at 12:15AM. The moment we walked through the door, they began triage immediately. Within 5 minutes, we knew what was wrong. Unfortunately, she did not recover. They were realistic with us, answered our questions, and treated her with dignity and respect. I could tell the situation wasn't easy for the staff either. They allowed us to spend time with her before, during, and after she took her last breath. It was super convenient that they also offered cremation and funeral services from a partner company. They offered three cremation options. Please read them. The cheapest one is a communal cremation. The other two are individual. We opted for the middle package. She passed on a Wednesday and by Friday she was ready to return home. You have the option to pick up either at the vet or directly with the funeral home. It's faster if you pick up directly from the funeral home. HOWEVER!!!!! I was in documented medical shock and managing a legal crisis when this was happening. Maple hadn't even been dead an hour when they were asking me to confirm all her final details. When I picked up her urn and death certificate, the information was WRONG. As a matter of basic empathy and professional decency, I expected them to correct the record for a medical support animal without charging me for my grief. But the funeral home refused so I suggest you don't use their cremation services. Also, the vet said they would email us a copy of the X-rays the same day. When we followed up with the receptionist she refused and claimed we needed to pay extra for that.

I completely understand that emergencies take priority, so the delays themselves were not the issue. The problem was the lack of communication. Each time the surgery was postponed, no one called to update me. I explained multiple times that I live in the U.S. and needed timely updates so I could plan travel accordingly, but they still failed to communicate schedule changes. Instead, I had to call every two to three hours just to get information, and even then, nothing was communicated clearly. In the end, I picked my dog up without the surgery being performed and took him to another veterinary clinic that was far more professional and respectful of clients' time and schedules.

A neighbor recommended Katie of Wolf Girl Canine Club on Nextdoor, and I decided to give training one more shot. Boy, am I glad I did. Katie worked magic with our sled dog. She now expects to play the "heel game" on every walk, and when we run out of treats, she still stays right by my side. What a difference. Walks are now a joy, and the carpal tunnel that I didn't know was caused by the sled dog has eased. I loved how Wolf Girl Canine Club approaches training with kindness and patience - no choke collars, shock collars, or harsh reprimands. Our sweet but stubborn girl heeled because she wanted to. She adored her friend Katie and looked forward to the training sessions. And, while she had suffered from abandonment issues with the other trainer, by the second lesson, she was ignoring us and happily setting off with her new friend. Katie also kept us up to date with photos and even training videos so that we could see er work and follow-up on her progress. This extra effort really helped us stay on track. I recommend Katie and her methods without reservation. Wolf Girl Canine Club will be our first step with future fosters. And, frankly, I cannot wait to see the next transformation. I am so grateful to have found a kind, effective, and thorough trainer.
