We love this place and are forever grateful--keep reading for details. Vet Playas absolutely saved our dog's life. On March 4, our 4-year-old pug mix, Leela, tried to jump onto our bed and injured two discs in her spine. She became completely paralyzed from the midsection down. She was unable to control her bladder or bowels; she couldn't stand or even wag her tail. We took her to two veterinarians in Los Angeles who diagnosed her with IVDD. We were told surgery would cost approximately $10,000-$20,000 and, when we explained that we couldn't afford that, we were told that euthanasia was the likely outcome. Because we weren't ready for that, we initially tried the long-shot recommendation to see if Leela could heal on her own. We were told to try at least four weeks of 100% crate rest and gave her steroids and painkillers as prescribed. While this treatment works for some dogs, after about four weeks with essentially no improvement in Leela's mobility, we realized we couldn't keep waiting and began looking for another option. That's when I found Vet Playas through MexiVet Express, and I am SO GLAD I did. Vet Playas provided Leela's examination, MRI, medications, spinal surgery, intensive overnight care, and four physical therapy sessions for under $5,000. Her MRI showed two herniated discs, including one causing approximately 80% compression of her spinal canal. Thankfully, Leela still had deep pain sensation. The surgical team operated on both affected levels. Wonderfully, Vet Playas is only about a six-minute drive across the border, in a cute neighborhood close to the beach. When we brought Leela down for her appointments, we brought our kids along and rented an Airbnb for the weekends. We were able to stay close to Leela during her treatments and got to know the staff well. If you're nervous about crossing the border for veterinary care, our experience was overwhelmingly positive. (Admittedly, crossing back into the U.S. is time-consuming, but we packed a lunch and mentally prepared for a 4-6 hour wait in the car each time. It's doable!) One of my favorite things about Vet Playas was their communication. Dr. Odette Ramos was wonderful. When Leela had her spinal surgery, a veterinarian stayed awake with her the ENTIRE night, texting me photos and updates approximately every hour. I never expected that level of support and was so moved and grateful for the care she received. When I visited the recovery area, I saw many other dogs in an extremely clean environment being cared for by an engaged and compassionate staff. Everyone looked very well cared for and loved. One tip: I strongly recommend signing your pet up for the physical therapy package. I hesitated at first, but Leela loved the physical therapist and genuinely enjoyed their time together. After each session, I noticed that she was able to move better. They also taught us exercises that we were able to continue doing with her at home throughout her recovery. It's now September, and Leela has made an incredible functional recovery. She can walk, play, and completely control her bladder and bowels again. I'm not exaggerating when I say that this has felt like a miracle to our family. Our dog who couldn't even wag her tail in March walked half a mile to the park this morning. Vet Playas gave Leela her life back, and they gave our family our dog back. We will be forever grateful to Dr. Ramos and the entire team. This is a wonderful veterinary hospital that will make sure your dog receives world-class care.

When we come to get my dogs ashes at Friendara the place where they do the cremation, they said we had opted out of the paw print frame. I understand accidents happen but that is a keepsake I wanted as this was already a very painful process and I feel I was robbed of it. I am now wondering if I should've taken my boy somewhere else given this level of professionalism. The gentleman's name that did the paperwork was Arnoldo, I understand you were just doing your job but I feel so robbed of that keepsake. This is unacceptable as we can not go back now. What has changed?…read more We've used Camp Run-A-Mutt several times over the years for overnight boarding and have always had a great experience, which is why this recent stay was so surprising. When making the reservation, I noticed that a few of my dog's vaccinations would expire during his stay. We took care of getting them updated weeks in advance and made sure the vaccination certificates were sent to Camp Run-A-Mutt. I even confirmed with a staff member at the front desk that they had received everything and that my dog was all set for his stay. A few days before our trip, I received a call saying my dog was missing vaccinations. I asked which ones, and of course they were the very vaccinations we had already updated and submitted. I explained that they had the records, the employee put me on hold, then came back and confirmed everything was in order and said they'd see him on Thursday. Then things got even more frustrating. On Thursday, as I was landing in another state for my vacation, my daughter--who was dropping my dog off before catching her own flight--called me in a panic. She was being told they couldn't accept him because his rabies vaccine wasn't up to date. I immediately called the facility and explained that we had already confirmed his records twice. The employee put me on hold, checked the records, and sure enough, they had his current rabies certificate the entire time. They admitted everything was up to date and accepted him. A few days later, while we were still out of state, I received another call saying my dog was being quarantined and separated from the other dogs because his vaccinations supposedly weren't current. At this point, this was the third time in less than a week that the exact same issue had come up. I again explained that his vaccinations were current and that their staff had already confirmed this multiple times. The employee put me on hold and never came back to the phone. Thankfully, my daughter was only a few hours away and was able to rush over and pick him up. When I called to pay for his stay over the phone and let them know he was being picked up, I was initially told they couldn't accept payment over the phone. That was confusing because I've paid over the phone for previous stays without any issue. When I asked if it was a new policy, the employee admitted it wasn't--they just didn't know how to process a phone payment. They had to get someone else to help before I was finally able to pay. I'm honestly not sure what's changed, but the organization and communication were completely different from the excellent service we've received in the past. The repeated confusion over vaccination records--which they already had on file and repeatedly confirmed--caused unnecessary stress while my family was traveling out of state and ultimately resulted in our dog being removed from daycare and picked up early. We've always been happy with Camp Run-A-Mutt, which is why this experience was so disappointing. I hope this was just an isolated breakdown in communication, but based on our recent experience, I no longer feel confident leaving my dog there.

She's not reactive, she has great recall, she makes friends, I can have people over, she listens to commands, and she's so easy to walk. I took her into the vet this week and they removed the 'bite risk' warning from her file, they said it's like a completely different dog. She's not anxious or fearful. She's confident, playful, and so happy. All of this was because of training with John. He is patient, gentle, and kind. I can't put into words how grateful I am that we found him. I recommend him to every dog owner I know.

It was so bad that I had to move apartments because of the noise complaints I got. He tore a hole in my wall, destroyed crates, and screamed when he was left alone. A friend of mine recommended her to me when I was at my wits end. We've only been working with Isabel for 2-3 weeks and Dolce can already be left alone while I'm at work for 5 hours. He stays in my bedroom with the door closed SLEEPING!!! I never thought I would be able to leave him that long without getting a sitter and it feels like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Not only that, but Dolce walks so much better on the leash. We did board and train for one week and are doing continued weekly trainings. I'm so thankful and so excited to see how much more he grows!!!
