They did a great job carving a hotel out of a historic building. My favorite part of this hotel is the fun bar in the basement. My second favorite thing is the coffee shop on the ground floor. It is so nice not to have to drive for a nightcap or your morning cup of joe. Cornerstone is an exciting part of the rebirth of downtown Washington. It's way more fun to stay here than some corporate motel!! PS. Wife wanted fluffier pillows.

I wish I had seen the review about room seven! I would've requested to have any other room. We got room seven, and had a similar, but maybe worse experience than the review we read about it. Not only did we hear voices until late in the night outside the window, but trucks and vans, etc. loudly going by honking screeching, etc. The windows in room seven are so thin you can hear anything from the outside. Additionally, the windows that are inside the room facing the inside hallway light up your room all night long. If you're going to stay there, please, please, please remember your sleep mask! We were there for five nights, and never saw another person working there. We had to contact someone via phone for Internet service, for the code to get in after 8 PM, and for additional clean towels. I really felt that it was done on a extremely thin shoestring budget. One more item, if you are the least bit immobile, do not consider this place. There are many steps in and out, and up and down to the breakfast room. The steps are very steep and narrow. I would probably not recommend it to anyone over 40 years old.

This is a standard, low end hotel. There is really nothing too special about it, nor was there…read moreanything particularly wrong with the room we stayed in. Washington is small, and you can tell that there isn't much competition between hotels. Pros: -The bathroom has a very large vanity, which made getting ready in the morning easy. -If you are staying for business/work, there is also a very large desk in the room that seemed to be of good quality. -Breakfast is offered -Hot tub and pool available (the pool IS heated!) Cons: -The breakfast, though offered, is less than your standard fare. The eggs are your "from a bag" offering, there was no bacon, and the biscuits for their biscuits and gravy were stone cold and stale, even when they were freshly restocked. They DO have a waffle maker, which is good! -The pillows were coined as "bed croutons" by those of us staying here. They were almost comically small. -The TV was small as well, which isn't much of an issue if you aren't planning on staying in on any nights. -Although they offer WIFI, it is also unsecured, and thus dangerous to use without protection and encryption on your end -Our room had one cloth shower curtain with no plastic liner. The curtain was ripped in multiple places. -The ironing board in our room was broken. -Our room had a strange smell to it that seemed to be coming from the heating/cooling system. Nothing major that warranted getting it checked out, but enough to be annoying -We were charged a fee for having a safe in our room. Even though we never used it. This is a standard, low end hotel. Don't expect high key amenities or offerings, and it will be fine.

This one was surprisingly and shockingly clean so that's the reason for the four stars. Also for a weekend it was relatively quiet and peaceful. Check in with simple and easy. The bathroom was clean the towels were good. I would stay there again if I had to be in doctors in that area again.

Fast forward to 2022, and after taxes I paid $165/night. I knew the prices went up but dang, that is incredible! Upon further consideration, I'm kind of annoyed. For those of you unfamiliar with the area-YOU ARE NOT IN CHICAGO! Chicago is still almost 2 hours away. Even Starved Rock is 30 minutes away. Princeton, I'm sorry to say, is not a cultural epicenter full of attractions that draw people in and away from a city that does have those things. In the past, I've appreciated the amount of effort that goes into decorating the lobby for Christmas. Now I'm thinking that if half the effort was put into the rooms, versus the lobby, we may be getting a little closer to the cost vs quality ratio. I did notice that room had vinyl flooring and zero carpet. I liked that, as we all know how icky carpet can be. Yet the dated panther picture was way too reminiscent of items available at a local truck stop. The linens weren't extra snuggly and there is no variety in the pillow department. Unfortunately, that left me with a crick in the neck and wishing I had brought my own. Moving along, there is a pool in this inn. I saw signs that said, "The spa is closed", so I think that was referring to said pool. The free breakfast is still being served to you by employees, which makes for long lines. Waffles are no longer available on the weekend either. What? So you're telling me all the amenities of staying in the Americinn are not available and you want to charge people more? How very American of you! You may think I'm being snarky. You may think my expectations are too high. Duh! All other places that charge that kind of money have extras that make your stay lovely. Snuggly linens, firm/soft selections of pillows, warm cookies when you check-in, etc. I will no longer stay at the inn, I'd rather drive the 2.5 hours back home than drop that kind of cash. After all, I come to this area because it's where I grew up. I know the demographics of customers is probably a mixture of: extended family of residents in surrounding communities, truck drivers, and a business person here or there. All that to say, this area is full of hard-working people. They aren't about that big city life, tossing money around, and treating themselves. Why would your rooms cost so much? Okay, enough of the rant. I will put my money where my review is and no longer pay these ridiculous prices.

These rooms are suites with the studio being the smallest. It's great to have a kitchen area (with a dishwasher and mini stove!) and some space to relax besides your hotel bed. The studio has a 3 person couch with ottoman and it just feels "homey". The furniture is not worn and decor is not dated or looking tired. I'm so happy I found this place. The staff is really nice. The amenities are ample: a pool, fitness center, basketball court, free hot breakfast, and lounge area where check in is. Self-parking is free unlike some of the other hotels a mile away. Overall, a nice place for a single person, couple, or a family. I wanted to take off one star because the floors could've been swept a little better but minor compared to the craziness I saw at the first hotel I checked in at-- that place has 3.5 stars on Yelp (how?!?!). This Marriott is leaps and bounds nicer than that so 4 stars wouldn't do this Residence Inn justice so all the stars go to them because relatively speaking, I think this one is the true chain hotel gem.
