They did a great job carving a hotel out of a historic building. My favorite part of this hotel is the fun bar in the basement. My second favorite thing is the coffee shop on the ground floor. It is so nice not to have to drive for a nightcap or your morning cup of joe. Cornerstone is an exciting part of the rebirth of downtown Washington. It's way more fun to stay here than some corporate motel!! PS. Wife wanted fluffier pillows.

I wish I had seen the review about room seven! I would've requested to have any other room. We got room seven, and had a similar, but maybe worse experience than the review we read about it. Not only did we hear voices until late in the night outside the window, but trucks and vans, etc. loudly going by honking screeching, etc. The windows in room seven are so thin you can hear anything from the outside. Additionally, the windows that are inside the room facing the inside hallway light up your room all night long. If you're going to stay there, please, please, please remember your sleep mask! We were there for five nights, and never saw another person working there. We had to contact someone via phone for Internet service, for the code to get in after 8 PM, and for additional clean towels. I really felt that it was done on a extremely thin shoestring budget. One more item, if you are the least bit immobile, do not consider this place. There are many steps in and out, and up and down to the breakfast room. The steps are very steep and narrow. I would probably not recommend it to anyone over 40 years old.

Corporate told me they've never heard of such a thing at any IHG & that they are profusely sorry that she treated me that way. Corporate even made a joke about the name "Holiday" in their brand name. Supposedly Michelle decided to make a rule because of some bad experiences in past. When I explained that it wasn't going to be a huge free-for-all & I would gladly sign a document stating how many people would be staying. I would gladly put down a deposit since she was worried about damages, she still refused. I explained it was simply a sleepover for my child & a few of her friends. That I would be there the entire time monitoring with another adult. That I would not let any outsiders in that were not listed ahead of time. I just wanted my 12 year old to be able to swim & have a few girlfriends with her (max 6 children) for a sleepover. She originally bragged how they're so kid friendly that they turned the jets off in the hot tub permanently because children like to go in the hot tub. Because I used the word "birthday party" Michelle said no. She refused to let me book any rooms. I explained that her dad has been a Spire Elite for years & that we've stayed all over the country at hundreds of hotels for IHG & that she can check our history that we've never had one complaint. I told her she can call the Riverfront IHG in East Peoria & ask them about the couple of times we've booked & had multiple people there swimming and staying over. I then asked her, so if a family shows up with more than a couple children then you're going to deny them booking? She said because I used the word "party" she will not allow it even though I explained that it's not necessarily a quote party with loud noise & such. I told her they simply were going to swim, watch a movie, maybe put on some face masks, maybe I would do their nails. She then said, "That's exactly what I mean I don't need that mess all over my hotel room. People come in & do face masks & dye their hair in my rooms & ruin it." I said what if it was an athletic group getting ready for a cheer competition they're going to do their makeup & hair in the room? Or a wedding party getting ready for their wedding you don't think that they don't do their hair, nails & makeup? I said, no one is going to be dyeing their hair! I told her that is what the incidental deposit fee is for when you rent a room & the piece of paper you sign saying you're responsible for any damages. I told her I would not have more people than what is allowed to sleep in the room & that I would let her know the count ahead of time. I told her they would be monitored at all times. I said, so if I wouldn't have mentioned the word birthday party then I could have booked it? Her reply was, "Well you already did so no I'm sorry you cannot book rooms." Michelle refused me any service. Do not book here unless it's for business! It is definitely not kid-friendly & obviously the manager makes her own rules compared to IHG's usual welcoming HOLIDAY service. To put an end to this conversation I empathize with the fact that there are jerks that take advantage & try to throw an all-out disrespectful party in a space where others are trying to sleep, I've been at hotels when that has happened & not gotten any sleep. She should take these things on a case-by-case basis not punish all customers because of her prior experiences with bad customers. Instead of refusing everyone that uses the word "birthday party" maybe make a clause that we sign when we sign for incidentals & damages paper that says that we will not have more people than we already reported staying in the room. No excessive noise. That no outsiders are welcome in the pool area other than the registered guests. Make quiet hours like many IHGs post in their hallways. Put up a rule in the public areas that all children need to be monitored by an adult at all times. DISCRIMINATION AT ITS BEST!!

The hotel employees that we interacted with were all polite and accommodating. The room cleanliness was slightly above average. They were a pet friendly hotel. They had breakfast in the morning and there is a Cracker Barrel that practically shares a parking lot with the hotel. I only had 2 main issues with this place. The first was that the indoor swimming pool was cold and not heated or the heater was off/broken. The 2nd issue was that when we woke up to leave, the 1 elevator that they had was broken. We had to carry all of our luggage down from the third floor. They did have a sign hanging letting everyone know that if they needed help getting items down stairs to notify them and they would help.

The hotel has a patio so you can head outside and enjoy the view. The inside of the hotel is also really cool, with several seating options and a waterfall. There are also several walkable restaurants nearby such as Buffalo Wild Wings, Culver's, and Shake & Stake. Too cold to walk? Don't worry the hotel has a restaurant inside, of which my party ordered from. There was one employee working and serving us--I don't remember her name, but she was kind and considerate. They also have breakfast in the morning. The hotel offers a pool and gym. The gym was in really good condition and had several adjustable equipment. The pool water was a bit chilly and I thought there would be a hot tub--based off online photos, but there wasn't one. The pool water was also a bit salty. The rooms were in great condition, with two beds and one couch-bed in separate rooms--each with their own TV. Furthermore, the sky-bridge from the hotel to the conference center is insanely convenient. Would recommend this hotel.

A lot of cleaner type services were covered with the allergy label- filtered shower water, hepa air purifier, non scented sheets, no pets allowed (huge one for me!)... I was so thankful. Our room was great! It was spacious and they upgraded us to a view of the river / lit up bridge that my kids loved! There was reception with two free drinks and snacks, they seemed to be low on the chips next to the salsa. There wasn't a lot of allergy friendly food, but I was able to get a drink! We had great service when we forgot a few things late at night and they were very prompt and helpful. The lobby is absolutely beautiful and a fantastic place to catch up with family or play a game. There is sooo much mingle room. The fountains were a little dirty and everything in general seemed to need a tune up. At one point the elevator door wasn't working but it was promptly fixed. The bed in our room was comfy, though th allergy liner kept coming loose. The workout room was pretty nice with towels and a great variety of different machines and free weights. Definitely above par from your normal moderate hotel. My two main concerns were breakfast and shower soaps. As someone with allergies and skin issues I usually bring all my own items for shower, but occasionally my husband will use the on the wall soaps... the allergy friendly room was marketed as no harsh smells, but that definitely wasn't true for the soaps on the wall! Holy cow, it was pungent, and even when hubs walked around after it was wafting off him and permeating the bathroom. It was super disappointing and for someone with breathing issues; it was overpowering. Second... i called ahead of our trip to talk to the person that runs breakfast or to have an allergy menu sent and was told they don't have one and that I would be fine and there were lots of options... When we stayed with Drury they had an allergy menu online and a QR code posted by the food. For a hotel marketing to allergen folks, to not have an allergen menu available is insane. When my very hungry 15m old came down to breakfast with me we had to ask someone restocking the buffet about safe food and she told us to stand in the 5-7 person line to ask about food... so holding my impatient and hungry baby, we waited for the man to cook 5-7 omelettes, waffles, etc. we got up to the front and explained our situation (dairy, peanut, soy, almond allergies... anaphylactic ones) and he was listing off various things we couldn't have and seemed completely out of touch with how serious this was. Wouldn't want you to try that... that cough have peanuts... I could make you an omelette in this pan after I clean it out (as there is actively cheese being dumped into it). No. Way. He don't consult labels at all, didn't reference any supporting information, just seemed to be going from memory. Completely unacceptable. Grabbed some Cheerios, fruit and bacon (he said it was safe) for baby and ate somewhere else. She reacted to the bacon from cross contamination. My baby has a rash on her face is going to be up all night screaming from pain. Before this incident I was thankful and excited for a hotel taking allergies seriously...

The door was heavy and on a ramp so it makes trying to open the door and roll in very difficult. Also the only ramp into the hotel is right where its one lane for cars to drive around and there is no way you can see a car coming around the corner so it would be easy for you to get hit. The bathrooms are filthy, air condition is very loud and it is dark and dingy. I also had an issue checking in with my service dog. They tried to charge me an extra $55.00. My mom and I then explained again that she is my service dog. The lady at the front desk called a person then came back & tried charging me $15.00 cleaning fee, we said no it's a service dog. Next morning going to breakfast they stopped us and said, "no pets allowed" we again said, "she is a service dog" She had on her vest the whole time. Assisting me with mobility, pressure therapy, carrying things & picking things up and more. The food was horrible very stale and not clean. My mom went to make a waffle and took one bite and ended up spitting it out the batter for the waffles was rotten. They were very rude to us and didn't want to even acknowledge the ADA law that my mom went back and read it to them. The hotel staff got really short with her and we left. Thank God I double checked my bill and was not charged anything else.
