We are very impressed by and the trainers and the owner. From the start my grandson was taught that earning even his beginner s belt requires something from him and to receive his belt he had to memorize a part of the student creed. I appreciate this lesson so many things are given and taken for granted but to earn something develops character and not a feeling of entitlement. Thanks Crescent read more

My daughter has been attending for 2 years. She has developed in strength, disciple and confidence. There js a community spirit here that I am happy to be part of. We even had her birthday here! read more

Crescent Moon Karate - Learning to spar! - Martial Arts Near Me - Los Angeles, California

Enrolling my 6-year-old son in this karate dojo has been one of the best decisions we've made. Over the past year, he's gained much more than physical skills. The focus on discipline, respect, and consistency has helped him become more patient, attentive, and confident. The instructors strike the right balance between structure and encouragement, pushing the kids while still keeping it positive. His coordination, strength, and technique have all clearly improved, and the program is thoughtfully built to develop real skills over time. More importantly, the habits he's learning here are carrying over into the rest of his life, which is what makes this place stand out. read more

Crescent Moon Karate - Great exercise and discipline! - Martial Arts Near Me - Los Angeles, California

It was definitely a pleasure having my son be part of this team. He enjoyed every class he attended. In fact, one funny story that I did mentioned to Mr. Kyoshi, was that my son would practice his moves everywhere we would go lol. I would go grocery shopping and turn around and he would be practicing his moves. I highly recommend this place. The staff is very friendly, caring of the kids, and just very supportive. Thank you guys for everything! read more

My 6 yr old daughter loves coming to her classes. The instructors are awesome with the kids. This is my daughter's first time doing something other than soccer but she loves it!!!! She's learning while getting her workout done and having fun. read more

I love this Academy! Kyoshi has been an inspiration to my little girl and all her classmates. He teaches with love, care and at the same time, always demands the best of his students. They love him. My 6 year girl had learned so much. I highly recommend these classes for kids at any age! read more

We had my son's 9th birthday party with Kyoshi at Crescent Moon Karate Academy. The kids attending were between 3 and 9 years old. Kyoshi was great with the kids and kept all ages engaged. Everyone got a little taste of Karate life at the dojo. They learned about the respect, self-discipline, a few Karate moves, but also they were silly and had fun. The best part for my son was he got to cut the cake with a real samurai sword! That is definitely a moment he will remember for a long time. The space is tight and not a lot of room for a ton of parents to hang around. Drop off parties are recommended, if they are of the age to do that. My son takes Karate here. It's a bit of a drive for us, but Kyoshi is amazing with the kids and it's such a great dojo, we don't mind the drive. read more

Okay, you're all finished shopping for a place for you or your child to learn Karate. Our son has been enrolled for two years at Crescent Moon Karate Academy. Renshi Torres & his team have been fantastic. You can stop by anytime, watch any class and it will become obvious to you that they really care about the children and that goes well beyond teaching self-defense. They are EXCEEDINGLY patient and knowledgeable. Our son's growth in terms of "focus, discipline & respect" has been phenomenal as he's progressed through his belts. Renshi also regularly arranges for some fun, extracurricular activities like movie-nights and holiday parties. My wife enrolled for MMA and, later, Karate for herself and enjoys it as much as our son does. The prices are incredibly reasonable for such a great value. So there you have it. Go enroll. You're welcome. read more

I have been attending the MMA Fitness classes at Crescent Moon Karate every week for almost 6 months, and I love it. I always get a good workout, and every class involves different sets of exercises so it never gets boring. Renshi Robert Torres is a wonderful instructor. He is encouraging and positive; he pushes me hard but he is never harsh or overly aggressive. The MMA Fitness class is small, so I get personal attention from Renshi, and I feel like he really cares that I push myself and use correct form. The Crescent Moon facility is always clean, bright, and has good equipment. It's not a fancy top-of-the-line gym, but I am totally satisfied with the gear and the environment. And Renshi is great about using technology to keep attendance, communicate with students, and provide extra services for us outside of class. If you're looking for an inexpensive, high-quality, FUN workout, I highly recommend the MMA Fitness class at Crescent Moon. read more

My little man LOVES going to karate class! Great dojo, instructors and overall vibe. Highly recommend this place for young kids 4-5 year old. read more

This review is long overdue. We started 4 years ago when my son was 4. I really wanted him to learn coordination, focus, discipline, muscle/strength development, following direction, etc. We had tried jiu jitsu but it was to complex. We tried another kids' dojo, but they were too strict and serious. Again, my son was only 4 and just wanted to have fun. He had attention issues and definitely could NOT focus for an hour-long class. At the end of hour class the teacher was very discouraging about my son's lack of concentration/ability, etc. I pretty much gave up until a friend recommended Kyoshi and Crescent Moon Karate. On the first day I made a million apologies to Kyoshi for my son in advance and told him I understood if it wasn't a fit and explained that my son had issues paying attention. Kyoshi didn't seem fazed at all. He said if the curriculum was age- appropriate, the kids would do great and enjoy it. And he was right! My son loves karate, Crescent Moon dojo and most of all Kyoshi! He really has an amazing talent and love for teaching kids (especially the ones with extra struggles) and the patience of a SAINT! He's even an inspiration to me as a parent to meet my kid where he is to help him flourish. My son's coordination, focus and memory has come so far since we began. And he loves it. There's plenty of classes to fit into anyone's busy schedule and all the instructors there are trained by Kyoshi and are great! read more

The Best Dojo!! Best Staff!!!! I started as a student at Crescent Moon Karate in 2008. Since that time I have never stop Training. Renshi Torres help guide me to become the 1st Black Belt for our dojo. Renshi Torres is very passionate about each student regardless of age fulfilling their dream. When you visit our dojo you will feel a family atmosphere. You will finish your class feeling terrific! Plus you will gain some techniques that will benefit you for the rest of your life! Now I will test for my 2nd Degree-NIDAN read more

I didn't think I could write a more glowing review, but we just had my son's birthday party here. One word: AWESOME! Renshi Torres made my son the star of the party and thoroughly engaged the other children, too. They played games and learned karate and had an overall blast. The flow of the party was perfect! After a good workout with games and karate fun, the kids were hungry and ate, then played some more...and Renshi Torres even provided a brief demo after the singing of Happy Birthday, so I could cut the cake without all the kids clamoring for a piece. Truly the best birthday party I've ever hosted for my son. Reasonably priced for all the action and attention and help. I'm truly a loyal fan of this business. It practices the best type of business - integrity and value. read more

Probably the BEST place to bring your children for self defense classes! My 6 and 4 year old boys look forward coming here every other day! Master Torres and Sensei are truly wonderful and skilled teachers!! I and drop my son off for his lesson and come back knowing that he is in safe hands. They give their all each and every time which is more than anyone could ask for :) Plus they do fun extra activities like Dojo Movie night! I looove when they have this because you can leave the kids there while they play games, watch movies, and hang out with other kids in the classes! They even spend the night which gives us parents a wonderful little break haha :) I think these days all kids should go to some sort of karate or martial arts class. I wanted to have my 6 year old and 4 year old do something that incorporated respect discipline and focus plus allows them to know how to defend themselves againsts strangers etc... They teach these core values in a clean and comfortable environment. Oh and you dont have to drop your children off if you dont want too. Most parents of the smaller kids 4-6 years old usually stick around to watch , but my son just does better when im not there to distract him lol overall we have been going here for about a year and will most likely continue as long as possible! I love this place and they really make you feel welcome as soon as you walk through the door :) Seriously, dont think about it just go and talk with them anytime if you want to know more. I procrastinated for like a few months because i just wasnt sure about them but I took a dive and wow it has been a wonderful journey for my kids! read more

My son had been asking me for years to start karate but everywhere I search the prices were too high or way too many people so there would be a crazy wait list. I happened to find this place on Groupon of all places. When we walked in the door they were very nice answered all my concerned mom questions and they are nice to my kid. Hes been there a few months and I can see a positive difference in him they are helping him grow in amazing ways. Thanks. Crescent moon karate. read more

Crescent Moon Karate was an awesome experience for my 7 year old daughter Bella!a The training was absolutely wonderful and the team there is just full of entry and positiveness! Bella's self esteem grew so much and she became more social in school which was not happening before she joined Crescent Moon! If it wasn't because we are moving to the other side of town Bella would continue her training there! We will miss the entire team! Great Dojo for children to learn fundamentals in a safe and engaging environment. My child has blossomed through her practice. My daughter has been a member of this Dojo for a few years now. She LOVES it. The blackbelts are so supportive. I have begun to take classes too and love how the instructors are with the adults as well. Occasionally my daughter sits and watches my class and has to do homework. I will often look up and see one of the blackbelts sitting with her, helping her with homework. Find another dojo in town that has that kind of service. There is no attitude at this dojo. The prices are more than reasonable and it feels like more of a family than a business. read more

This review has been a looooooong time coming! My son has been training at Crescent Moon Karate Academy for over a year now and we could not be happier! Kyoshi Robert Torres has created a traditional karate dojo with a minimalist approach and a true family atmosphere. If you are looking for all the fluff, pomp and circumstance that you see at some of the karate chains then this is not the place for you! If your looking for a "Fight Club" or MMA type location then keep looking! However, if you are looking for a location where training in the art of karate and other martial arts/self defense techniques is taken seriously (not sure how many other dojos require you to EARN your white belt!) , where old fashioned values are taught and practiced, where everyone is welcome, where kids get their own "nights out", an annual "Dojo Picnic, movie nights are standard and parents are invited to be involved, then this is the place for you! ..right here in the heart of Mid-City no doubt! My sons confidence, self discipline and focus have improved SIGNIFICANTLY since going to Crescent Moon Karate Academy. Kyoshi just has this way of teaching kids the traditional katas ,ipons and other martial arts techniques in a way that kids want to learn. He makes it fun, engaging and challenging! It is a true accomplishment when your next rank/belt is earned. As a child about my sons age (9), I started training in martial arts so I knew what I was looking for. After checking out many dojos throughout the area. I knew right away, I had found what I was looking for at Crescent Moon! Kyoshi IMMEDIATELY connected with my son (No small feat!) and he has grown and developed under his instruction ever since. It truly does take a village to raise a child! I am proud to have Kyoshi as part of our village! Osu! read more

Master Robert Torres' enthusiasm for Karate is contagious! My daughter loves the classes at Crescent Moon and can't stop talking about them. I have to say. The kyoshi shows that he not only cares about his students but also the community. The culture that he has built is one of family that loves each other. If I could give CMK more than 5 stars I would. Renshi Torres teaches kids invaluable life skills such as self control, perseverance, respect for self and others, independence, confidence, and focus. My son has been enrolled for a little over a year and his growth and achievements have been remarkable. Renshi runs an action packed, enthusiastic class and the kids leave sweaty and happy every time! My son absolutely adores Renshi, as do I. He is an incredible role model who is passionate about sharing his art with everyone who steps foot in the dojo. The best way to summarize, when I picked my son up from one of the special event nights he said, "I wish I had a time machine so I could go back to the beginning of this night at the dojo!" Highly recommend this program for kids of all ages and abilities. read more
