Just came to find out this gym charged my mom $2000 for a "lifetime membership" and then $400 monthly?! She's 65 years old and I can't help but feel like she's being taken advantage of... I have the highest tier all access equinox membership and even that is not $400 monthly. She hasn't gone there once since signing up and has reached out to them multiple times to cancel and they keep giving her excuses or not getting back to her. I think it's a bit unethical for them to do that, so now I've had to reach out to my credit card company about their negligence to cancel despite the multiple attempts to reach them and try to resolve it with them firsthand. She also said her friend mentioned that it's impossible to cancel and they will keep charging your card. I'm shocked to see good reviews and if this is just something happening personally to my mom but either way, I think the issue isn't the facility, it's the business practices. Continuing to charge after a cancellation request is highly concerning. If you're considering signing up, make sure you fully understand how difficult it may be to cancel. I booked an appointment to speak to someone about membership, class times for an adult beginner and of course price. I thought these were basic questions that could be answered by the woman at the front desk but I had to wait until a different woman (I believe its the owner) took me to the back office to discuss membership. I got a whole song and dance about how martial arts is good for my health and can save me money on medical bills as I get older. Then she proceeds to tell me about annual memberships, lifetime membership without belt advancements and lifetime membership if I want to achieve black belt. (For the price of the last one, I can buy a used Prius). I kept asking what the monthly cost is and I could not get an answer from her. She then proceeded to tell me how models come to the dojo and how they've trained actors for move scenes. I'm from New York, I don't care about celebritydom. I gave it two stars because while I was there I was able to witness the training for a teens class and it looked like they were being trained well. However, it did give me a Cobra Kai feeling and that they were in it mostly for the money.... read more

PLEASE READ THE CONTRACT.... It's a 1 year contract (no way of getting out) VERY misleading! The owner will come across VERY nice, knowledgeable and sadly after 3 months that is far from reality.... It's a 1 year contract & every 3rd month a test of $50 in order to move up to the next level. My baby nephew earned a yellow belt with hard work. BTW any student who pays $50 every 3rd month to move up to the next belt can basically obtain the belt by paying. Even if they are actually NOT in that level. How is this possible??? The owner did not want to provide a copy of the contract. She was extremely rude to parents when all they were trying to do is get answers as to why weren't they aware of the additional cost $50 every 3rd month for testing. Please don't end up in the same situation... Read all the small letters in the contract & don't sign up for a year when you truly won't know if this school will be the right fit for your child. I also read a review back from 2011 calling all the negative reviews "haters" I believe in sharing our honest experience & let you be the judge of what is best for your child or yourself. It was disappointing to see how rude the owner's were towards the parents who were asking questions. This is the type of attitude that is unacceptable! We are willing to pay that is not the problem. However hidden fees & misleading advertisement played a HUGE roll here! That to me is shady business... read more

I honestly found them through Yelp due to their excellent reviews. I am very happy we decided to go with this dojo. The staff are very respectful and responsive. I love that they are family oriented and make you feel welcome (especially Grand Master Moon). My son is learning to be confident in himself and it is helping him cope with social anxiety. It was the BEST experience of my life. I have now kept up with the classes weekly! My whole family are life time members. My 17 month old son comes to the class with us and already learns a lot! :) I was a professional dancer in the past. I was always fit, but could'nt get the mass in my legs down. My three children have been attending since last summer. All three have become noticeably become more disciplined and have gained a new sense of pride as they keep learning many new skills. Moo Sool Won not only teaches martial arts, but many important life skills such as respect, discipline, positive thinking, and many others. Since school started Moo Sool Won has made sure my kids finish their homework each day, and have continued teaching them multiple languages including Spanish, Chinese, and Korean! The staff has been fantastic in demonstrating a solid foundation and each one practices what they teach in their school. Parking can be difficult at peak hours, but staff and even the other parents are always polite and friendly, and sometimes will even help direct traffic if it's needed. There are many programs for all ages, and compensation is fair. I don't know about that other review that said they were charged $10,000 to learn no skills - my experience has always been kindness and understanding from all of the staff, patience and fairness at all times, and any questions can always be directed immediately to the Grandmaster or Great Grandmaster themselves. Ive signed up with a coworker for private lessons from Grand Master. You will learn a lot and sweat a lot. Self defense is something everyone should know. We have learned a lot and mostly the connection between mind and body. We started off with exercise moves that you think have nothing to do with self defense. With their expert teaching you realize that every move you make has a purpose and when you string all the moves together it just makes sense. I'm sure everyone has passed by this building on Crenshaw and you think, "thats just a martial arts place". Attending classes here you realize its more than that. Its a friendly place that is welcoming. You see children learning in the after school program and you see children training with all the instructors.
