That being said, one would think we'd get "good" service - also not the case. Based on Yelp (and Google) reviews, we were served likely by the owner. I asked for two samples and this man was so cheap he barely nicked the ice cream with the corner of the square spoon and called it a "sample." In other words, the sample was so tiny it didn't even cover 1/4 of the small sample spoon. I wish I were making this up yall, I was mind blown. I ended up settling for a flavor I didn't ask to sample (chocolate cookie dough, I believe it was). It was just okay. Nothing to miss or write home about. When I asked for that flavor, he almost sounded disappointed I didn't get the dark chocolate flavor (one of the ice creams I asked to sample) saying that's one of their best sellers. Sir, if I would've been able to actually TASTE it, I may have very well chosen it. We were visiting town and let me just say that based on that poor experience, I won't ever consider going back nor would I be able to recommend it.

Also, pretty dense in my opinion for a donut. Standard glazed donut. Cronut Hole - Lightly glazed. Flaky and buttery. Pretty standard Cronut hole. Cronut - This one had more glaze than all the rest. Texture was flaky and buttery. Not the best Cronut I've ever had, but slightly better than average. Mini Cinnamon Roll - Lightly glazed. Cinnamon flavor is present. Pretty standard cinnamon roll. Not only are they still in business, but they're also better than ever. My Overall Rating - 5 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - Shin's Donuts looks like any other shopping strip donut shop. Good news is there is plenty of parking, and the interior has been updated with glass cases showcasing their baked goods. Take a peek through the door and you can see the busy kitchen. On busy weekend mornings expect a line. 1 Star. Service - This family-owned small business has been here as long as I've lived in Irving. The employees are kind, patient, and will ask you if you want your baked goods warmed up. Coffee is self-serve, but if you're not here for coffee. 1 Star. Food - Shin's Donuts is the epitome of the saying "Not all donut shops are the same". While the word Donut is in the title, my favorite item is the sausage roll. On my most recent visit, I ordered my roll wrapped in a croissant dough. The buttery roll is an upgrade from the original sausage roll. It was soft and warm (next time I'll put it in the toaster oven) and quickly disappeared once my kids discovered them. And while Shin's has plenty of donut types, I only need a glazed donut. Shin's glazed donut is soft, airy, and never dries out. It's perfect when I dunk it in black coffee. Bonus - the staff always gives me a bag of donut holes to go. 2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. While it took me 11 years to update my review. I've probably been back to Shin's over a dozen times. Not only have I been back, but I will also drive out of my way past a dozen other donut shops just to get to Shin's. 1 Star.

For the main event, we then got the Earl Grey Chiffon cake and it was incredibly moist and flavorful while being light and not too sweet. The staff at the counter were very accommodating for our large group. There's a good amount of small tables and seating and there was a nice semi-separate area in the back they had a single, large table with enough seating for roughly 8. The staff brought out everything to us after ordering, and also were very helpful with some special instructions on bringing the cake after we had finished eating.
