Delicious food, especially the hot water cornbread with black eyed peas and greens don't forget the Mac and cheese and dressing to die for

Went on a Saturday around 3pm. The restaurant is located in a strip mall with plenty of parking. We were and seated immediately. The restaurant is contemporary, but nothing extra special. Loved the food - but didn't like that even when you dine in, all the food still comes out in containers. The server was kind and attentive. We ordered catfish, chicken wings, sweet potatoes, corn, macaroni and cheese, cornbread and greens. Would definitely return, but would probably not dine in. read more

I ordered through Grubhub. I did not receive most of my food and what I received was cold. I didn't wait a long time for the food to service was fast but the food was cold and just mediocre in taste. I called in an order. It was ready fast. My order had the smothered chicken wings which was very good. The gravy was well seasoned. The mac and cheese was better than normal restaurant but could be creamier. Greens were very good although it was full leaf which is a personal preference. I prefer bite size especially when on the go. My husband just wanted a 'snack' so he got a catfish filet and candied yams. He liked the fry and seasoning on the catfish and i liked the yams more than he did. But he didn't give them up completely. Having recently moved into the area, I was curious as to restaurants that I could patron. Creed-Flossmoor is one that isn't far from me, so I went for takeaway. The fried catfish hit the spot, although the filets were thin. I have come to realize that up North, thick filets have a muddy flavor, so thin worked fine. The sweet potatoes, black-eyed peas, and cabbage were perfect side dishes. And nothing says, "Y'all did good," like hot water cornbread. It's a spacious restaurant, but it's not a large one. They serve your dine-in food in carry out containers with plasticware. The menu is very limited or focused. My experience was on a Friday. I want to check it out on a Sunday. Creed-Flossmoor, the little hidden gem of the south suburbs!!!!! Soul/ comfort food served with the Hospitality that only "Momma-n-Nem" give!!!! I ordered carry out which consisted of Smothered Chicken Wings cooked just right, the gravy which I'm impressed with, had to be cooked in a cast iron pot, it was slamming!!!! It brought back memories of Sunday Morning's with Smothered Chicken and Rice breakfasts at Grandma's House!! You know there's Love in the Pots when your food is delicious and gives you a warm hug on the inside!!! Also in my Carry out was Cheesy Mac n Cheese, Cabbage and Cornbread Muffin. Got 2. Dinners the smothered chicken and the smothered pork chops. The gravy was like glue. There was no seasoning at all. Couldn't enjoy the food due to the consistency of the gravy. I ended up throwing the food out with the exception of eating the pork chop after scraping off all the gravy, the greens had no season at all, the sweet potatoes were good. the Mac and cheese was good other than that, someone there needs to know what seasoning means. Remember soul food is well seasoned.. You could tell that the gravy came out of either a jar or a packet.It was not homemade soul food gravy i would not recommend to go there if you don't like bland extra thick gravy on your food the next time. I had the absolute worst experience at this restaurant during my first visit to Chicago. If I can give it a 0 I would. I was excited to try some soul food, but this place was a disaster from start to finish. The dressing was a mushy mess with no celery, green peppers, or onions, and it had zero flavor. The mac and cheese was dry as dirt--no creaminess, no taste. To make things worse, I found a dead fly at the bottom of my red wine glass. It wasn't floating, so it had clearly been there for a while. Disgusting. Even though we were dining in, the food was served in to-go containers, which was strange and unprofessional. The "honey butter cornbread" was supposed to be sweet, but it tasted like pure salt instead. Overall, a horrible experience. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, especially if you're looking for authentic soul food. Stay away. I have picture of the fly in my wine but don't know how to attach it. I went in on today to try to grab a bite to eat with family after making a reservation. First, the table was missing two chairs. No one came over to assist so my husband grabbed two additional chairs. As we sat there waiting, not only did no one acknowledge us, but the waitress took care of two people that came in after us. Then when I asked her could we be served, she told me in a nasty voice that there were only two waitresses. She then rolled her eyes and walked away. Came in ordered both smothered/fried porkchops were just ok. I ordered all the sides except the black eye peas, including the b. pudding and p. cobbler, the cobbler was just ok however, the b. pudding tasted like a protein shake w/cookies, the consistency, taste and texture was terrible. The greens had no taste and the cabbage was tasteless as well, after 1st bite but then a bit spicy after chewing them a little. The dressing and yams edible. The mac & cheese had no tase to them needing some salt. I threw the food in the garbage. The service and ambiance were ok. I had 2 other people to taste the food before throwing it in the garbage just to make sure it was not just my tastebuds, to be fair. I will not be returning, best of luck to you. read more
