I love this place. All of their pet food is high quality and there is a huge variety. The people are super cool. They love animals. They always have cute adoptable dogs and turtles. Some of the residents take awhile to warm up but once they do, a pet or scratch will get a purr out of them. Say high to Candy Corn, Bucket, Batman, and Nessie. I would not recommend adopting here because of the amazing treatment the workers have treated all the animals. Big bunny, bugs, cutest thing and so happy. Same with the birds and cats, and I say for sure the dogs. I would adopt here because of how lovely their behavior all is, I come to this place to buy supplies for my cat, but they have supplies for every animal you can think of. Their Guinea pigs are the sweetest and this place is unappreciated and not enough people go here. I'm excited they carry lines of pet food sourced from producers that are from ingredients that are made solely in the United States, from people that they have long time relationships with and know personally. They carry a huge kind of everything needed for fresh and salt water aquariums, as well. The other amazing things this dynamic husband and wife duo do is they run a VERY effective and hugely popular animal rescue non profit called Animals Rule Rescue. They've successfully placed hundred of animals in awesome homes. I can't recommend these wonderful people enough for not only their great store but for how much they foster, love and care for all animals brought to their rescue. This cute little shop is hidden away on Harbor Blvd. right past the big West Marine store. This store is not like the fancy pet stores that you go to, it's more of a mom and pop type of store. They get most of their business through the Internet/mail order. They have a wide variety of supplies here but you have to know where to look as the aisles are not marked to clearly. The supplies like one other reviewer mentioned can be dusty but for the saving...it's worth it. They also run an animal rescue from this location. I actually adopted a cat for my mom here. And one of my co-workers adopted two of her dogs here as well. If ever you can not keep the pet that you adopted you are asked to please bring the animal back to this location so that they can find the animal a new home. The owners and staff are very friendly and are eager to help you with any questions. And of course if you have a few extra minutes there are some cute animals that would love to have your attention! read more

This is a pretty decent sized pet store located along Harbor Blvd in San Pedro. It is very convenient if you just got off the freeway and are headed South. I stopped in here the other day while driving around lost in San Pedro. The store was a bit cluttered, but had a large variety of products for sale, including supplies for dogs, cats, birds, fish, small mammals, reptiles and amphibians. They have several large parrots in the store, and some small mammals for sale. They had two or three adoptable kittens tucked away at the back of the store and I saw at least one adult store-cat wandering the isles. At the front, they had several above-ground indoor ponds with aquatic turtles who were very excited to see me. I was surprised to see a skinny pig (mostly hairless guinea pig) up at the front and I asked the man in charge if he sold them there. He said it was one of his wife's personal pets that she'd brought from Hawaii where they knew a breeder. A couple of notes on the merchandise - as a crazy bird lady I very much appreciated the excessive number of different nest options they carried for small birds (finches and the like). I was surprised to see some nest types I hadn't actually seen in stores before. I found a round rope perch for large parrots and wanted to buy it, but try as I might I could not find a price on it. I brought it to the counter and that's when the store owner helped me. He said that he doesn't typically price the merchandise because most of his business is wholesale. It makes sense, but for someone walking in and viewing it like a regular pet store / feed store, it is awkward to have to ask the price of everything instead of just having it easily available. It took the man a little while to get the price for me, actually, since he had to look it up by brand name and the one I had pulled off the wall didn't have a tag on it. Anyway, end result - I liked the price and bought the perch. Final note, they have a LOT more products in the store than they list on their website so if you're in the area and want to check out a pet store with good variety, I recommend this store. read more

Creative is right. Not that what they sell is all that creative, just ordinary household pet "stuff". What is creative is their ability to stay in business (and apparently doing well), in such an odd location and odd business model. I think their primary business is online mail order of pet supplies but then decided to have a brick and mortar retail business as an afterthought. Creative Pet Supplies is located in a warehouse like building that is easily missed by people driving by. Once you enter the building, what you see is a fully stock store that sells supplies for all kinds of family pets. However, what you don't is see are price tag... odd? I thought so. So, I asked. The answer I got was something about being a mail order business in Hawaii so they don't (or maybe can't) show price that may be cheaper...? I am not sure what he was trying to explain to me and I am not sure I am all that interested. However, he finished his explanation by saying their prices are competitive. So I am supposed to gather all the things I am thinking of buying and bring it up to the counter and suffer the uncomfortable scene of saying well "I'll take this one but not that one?" Or maybe they should assign a clerk for each customer to follow the customer around the store naming off the prices? Hey maybe they do have good prices but I was just not comfortable with that way of shopping. Next time? I'll take a look at their website. read more

This is the little pet supply shop that could, can, and will deliver for you. In my mind, the store that has it all when it comes to your pet's healthy needs. For exotic pet owners who have animals (2 chinchillas) on specialized diets, I come to Creative to place orders on feed. Even though the wait can sometimes be excruciatingly long (~2 weeks) for your special order to arrive, you just need to plan well in advance so there isn't panic settling in for your furry ones. The staff here is very friendly, accommodating, and sacrificial when it comes to ensuring that their customers are satisfied. They will even follow-up and update you on the status of the feed. And I even get a sense that they don't mark-up the prices all that much. Whatever it may be, it's well worth it since I don't have to drive to Downey and haul a 50 lb. bag around. The storefront isn't that well noticeable, and I'm sure many have driven right by it without even knowing. There is plenty of parking in their lot, which is decorated with potted plants. Once inside, you'll be greeted with live rabbits, chinchillas, turtles, etc. The set-up is warehouse-like with crates of dog food stacked high. What I like is that they carry premium dog food like Canidae that are rated highly by vets and independent dog owner sites. You'll never see Pedigree, Purina or other low-end crap food here. read more

The hours posted on Yelp are incorrect, if you go to Creative's website you will see that they don't open until 10 a.m. Here are there hours, Monday to Friday 10AM to 6PM, and Saturday 10AM to 4PM Large Warehouse of almost everything you need at good prices and the owner will order something for you if you want something that's hard to find. They even have pet adoptions of rescued animals on weekends ( call for specifics) out in the parking lot as the owner has a heart of gold! read more

I've been coming here for many years and I highly recommend them. The prices are great - especially on big ticket items like large cages. I adopted one of my dogs from here as well and one of the best things about them is that they don't discriminate dog breeds or ages. They have pit bulls, chihuahuas and pretty much everything in between. They make sure the dogs are fixed and chipped before going home too. Love this place and the owners. They have passion for animals. All good quality merchandise. They might not have every brand but they have the good ones. Wish they carried Orijen though. You can find dog, cat, rabbit, birds and reptiles supply here. There are always rescued pets for adoption. They save animals n put them for adoption, they do not sale them. Most of the merchandise don't have prices which was so not ok in my book, but after years and years of shopping here, I know now nothing is over priced, nothing. I am more than happy to spend my money here since I know it will go to save another homeless pet. They are trustworthy and honest. I mainly just buy dog food here. I really like everything about this store though. Yes, the location is not really located near any other shopping venues... but you have to love how quirky the whole setup is. The boat stuck in the building above the entrance is awesomely weird. They have some really cool exotic birds and turtles etc. Inside. They also have a nice pet adoption program going on which I think is great. Customer service is excellent as well. There was a day I went in where the place was absolutely packed. The woman who I am assuming owns the place was helpful(bought more than dog food that day) despite all the young kids running around on what seemed like a class field trip. More often than not though I get rung up by the pretty young lady who works there, which has never been anything less than a pleasant experience either. In summary, I really enjoy doing my business here much more than at some big chain like Petco. I prefer putting my money in the pocket of local business, and I feel even better about it since this place runs a pet adoption. So if you (A) live in San Pedro and (B) have and/or want a pet, then this is the place you should be doing your business. Really that simple : ) read more

I think the place is great, they have lots of nice things I've never seen online or in a pet store. I've met the owners before, they're nice people. We've had conversations about our rabbits and I've been introduced to some of their elderly pets that they've adopted, and there are more pups that they have for adoption. I think it's great that they take in hard cases. We mainly go there for rabbit supplies and it's always fun to look around, they always have new stuff to try for our rabbits. read more

I love this pet store and everything that's in it. They have live exotic animals that are such a joy to see. But everytime I go I never get greeted or even acknowledged. One lady was very rude to my 7 year old for asking questions about certain animals they have. Another female emoloyee that rang up my items wasn't a joy to deal with. The staff isn't pleasant at all.
