Our search for a landscaper began as a search for someone to repair a leaking foundation. After three foundation companies said our water intrusion issues were grading related we started our search for a landscaper in Severna Park. I called 6 companies, 3 showed up for the scheduled appointments to price the work and out of those 1 provided us with a proposal. We'd asked for an itemized proposal with a few 'wish list' items and got back a lump sum estimate for the grading portion of the project alone. I called one more company at the recommendation of a neighbor-- Bear Landscaping. It took about a week to get on Russell's busy spring calendar, but he showed up on time, listened to ALL of our concerns (including my constant wants versus needs budgeting assessment) and gave us his recommendations. In addition to the grading he addressed how to make our project last -- namely our super shaded yard with lots of tall (and many dead) trees wouldn't allow for grass to maintain the grading project meaning we'd be in a cycle of re-doing the work. Russell suggested removing the trees (I could only hear cash register sounds in my head as he continued), laying sod and finishing with river rock on the side of our house. Within days I had a quote in my email that had to be wrong: it was nearly half of the quote that I'd expected to receive and considerably more competitive than the one from a big name company (who only priced the grading work which I'd have had to pay for multiple times over because the solution wasn't a long term one). I was floored. We booked all of the services immediately and Russell's team came out for the tree removal about two weeks later and just came back after another week to finish the grading, sod and river rock treatment. Russell's team even hit a snag with their drainage approach when our deck turned out to have another deck built underneath it, but they quickly pivoted to a new solution without hesitation. Also worth noting: both landscaping crews that came to our house were friendly and professional to us and our neighbors. My husband and I could not be happier-- the transformation of our property is unbelievable. We have had neighbors seek us out to compliment the work. We are so grateful for Russell's easygoing, no pressure and honest approach, and that he took the time to truly listen to our concerns and fully explain solutions. We will absolutely be reaching back out to Bear Landscaping and singing their praises to all who will listen.

Bob was very thorough and explain to me the detailed process about what he would do and how much it would cost. In my opinion, his prices are a little on the high side, but I think with him, you're going to get quality for that price. We haven't made a decision yet because we're still getting estimates, but I wanted to write a review because I really enjoyed meeting bob and talking to him.

They performed a thorough spring yard clean up- and mulched all the beds. He removed ivy growing on our trees and hauled away some junk. His work is meticulous and easy to work with. He also does house power washing gutter cleaning and outdoor deck staining. His price for the work he did for us was excellent. He also does lawn cutting. I asked if he could cut just twice a month, since my husband likes to cut twice a month. He said, sure we can cut as often as you like. Very very pleased. We were very happy with the work done by Gary and his team at Landscaping by Design. We had Gary…read morecompletely redo our backyard on Capitol Hill in DC. All of the existing fencing and hardscape was removed and we installed new cedar fencing, a patio area, a parking area,lighted garden beds and a stone bench. All of this in a narrow DC yard (16x120). We did not contract LBD for design services; we did most of that ourselves (just looking at pictures online). But Gary did a good job of looking at our ideas and helping us see if there were any clear problems. He was always happy to meet with us in person or talk on the phone. And he went with us when we selected hardscaping materials. The only real con to the entire process with LBD is that the job did not go quickly. A job that was scheduled for a few weeks stretched into a few months. There were weather delays for sure and Gary was also working other jobs. However the delays didn't bother us much at all. First, Gary was very clear up front that if we had a strict timeline he wasn't probably our guy. Second, we were more interested in quality than speed. I'm reluctant to write numbers because I have no idea what the scope of your project would be. But I always wish someone would give some indication as to price. So for all the work described above, plus a new garage door (about $5k), but without any actual plantings (we did that part ourselves), the total cost was just over $40k. Yes that's a lot of money, but some of that came from our choices -- the cedar fence was over $10k. And some of the cost was the quality we were paying for. Gary put a lot of work into making sure that the new yard would drain well and making sure that the ground under the hardscaping was well-prepared. That preparation took a lot of work. I would definitely recommend contacting Gary about your project.

He was very condescending to me when I first got a quote with him. Making comments like oh your just a woman you wouldnt understand. My husband insisted we use them. HORRIBLE DECISION. My 3 year old could have done a better job. Very dirty left things everywhere. I called when they were done asking when they were going to return to clean up never got a call back from him. WARNING LOOK ELSEWHERE. RUDE AND UNPLESANT. EDIT TO GARY---- I'm not a scam post. You and I dealt with each other face to face. You are a horrible business man. You are yet to come back to my house and clean up the mess you and your so called crew left behind. You are such a phony.
