I've gone here periodically over the last 4 years and had good experiences with a variety of…read morepeople, including Gina, for cutting length off my straight hair. I called yesterday to schedule a cut, left a voicemail as it was likely their lunch hour, and received calls back a little while later from 2 different employees. I scheduled with Marjie who I called back first, then called back Gina who said she could take me earlier and that my appointment from the previous call was not in the system. I called back Marjie to inform her I had scheduled with Gina instead. Marjie became angry and told me Gina is "always stealing people's clients." I received the text pictured from Marjie 2 hours later, and the responses after I let her know she'd texted me by mistake. I loved coming to a Tucson institution with a local vibe- they used to be an Aveda salon. But after this lack of professionalism, I will be taking my business elsewhere going forward.

I had the worst perm of my life with Margie, and reached out to the salon personally by email and…read morewas completely ignored. I've been consistently getting perms to make my 2a/2b wavy hair curly every 6 months or so since April 2023 and every perm before this one has not only lasted forever but also not overly damaging. Hair stylists regularly comment on how healthy my hair is. Every perm prior to this one has been at Empire Beauty School between Tucson and Cincinnati. And my experiences there were leaps and bounds more professional than my experience with Margie. After bragging to me about her 40 years of experience and being the perm specialist and telling me that I would have a "real professional experience with her," she proceeded to rush the entire appointment to the point I felt rushed out of the chair. Did not really ask me what I wanted, so I told her that I had gotten a bricklay perm in December and that before that I had gotten a spiral perm last May and would like to get a spiral perm again. She doesn't even know what a bricklay perm is, but she is the perm specialist? When I say I want a spiral perm, she says "ok but that will cost extra" and I say that's fine because I would prefer a spiral perm. she them goes to grab all the rods without even asking me how tight of a curl I do or don't want. I wanted a perm with grey and white rods but I never even got to tell her that before she did a perm with purple, grey, and white. First things that were red flags with this perm: she didn't wrap a single rod in a spiral perm wrap. she also had relatively large sections and not enough rods. I assumed that she had decided she couldn't do a spiral perm and now I was getting a traditional body wave, even though there had been no communication with me about it. By the time we put on the perm solution I noticed it was not as strong smelling as the spiral perm solution, which is generally more intense than typical body wave. When she put the developer on she said "now we wait 10 minutes and then you'll be done." there is not a single type of perm that develops in less than 15 minutes. Most are 20. But I assumed she's a perm specialist so maybe she knows better. By the time we washed my perm out and dried it, she didn't even use a diffuser on my hair and it was a frizzy mess that I hoped would get better once I washed it out after 48 hours. It did not. It's been about a month and it already looks like my last perm looked on month 6. The real kicker here is when I went to pay, she told me she had done the spiral perm for me after all. And I was genuinely confused because none of the rods were wrapped in a spiral wrap. So I was charged $100 and tipped 25% like I typically do for a bad body wave perm that she lied and said was a spiral perm. the entire appointment was less than 3 full hours and it's typical for a spiral perm wrap to take 4 hours. I had this perm touched up for some important interviews and I'm now spending more money to try to save my hair with bond building treatments because it's literally the worst perm of my life. I sent photos of my last spiral perm and compared it with my recent perm to the salon email asking for at least the money covering the extra cost of the spiral perm vs a regular body wave back and they completely ignored me. I do not recommend getting a perm here and certainly not from Margie if you want any agency in your perm experience.

I've been to many people over the years and across different cities that I've lived in, and my hair has never looked so healthy. Nina is a curl specialist and I've never visited anyone else who had gone through special training on how to cut curls any differently than any other type of hair. I consistently get compliments on my hair from people, including both people I know and complete strangers. I also like that Nina carries a line of non-toxic hair products, which can be really hard to find when most salons have products that contain loads of chemicals that are not healthy for use. I highly recommend Nina!

During my experience, I felt the staff seemed unfamiliar with how to handle my hair type (3b/3c). I was informed I had a different curl type (so I was misdiagnosed). I left feeling really disappointed, especially considering it's supposed to be a curly hair salon. I expected more expertise in handling my hair, but it just didn't work out.

I've been seeing Mariah for a few years now and can't recommend her highly enough. She is an expert at styling hair for both men and women. I've referred a couple of friends to her and they were very happy with the work she did. She does hair cuts, coloring and something called "balayage" for ladies. I don't know what that means but it looked dope when my BFF got it done. My hair is my most important feature. And while it's always gorgeous with a natural shine and bounce that would make any man or woman jealous, even a Ferrari needs a car wash from time to time. And just like you wouldn't trust your Ferrari to just anyone, I wouldn't continue returning to Mariah if she wasn't great at what she did. She knows my hair very well and always adjusts the cut to perfectly fit my fat face. But even at my first visit I was impressed by how she got my look down right away. I took in a picture of Christian Bale's hair from when he played Bruce Wayne and Mariah sent me on my way with my own beautiful, dreamy, Christian Bale-y look. And that's another thing, she's a movie buff so I always love getting my haircut during either Oscar season or Summer Blockbuster season because we can chat about the new movies that are playing. She makes great conversation if you're into that. But don't worry if you're terrified of talking to strangers. She's very intuitive about that and if you just want to get in and out with some awesome looking hair and not have a whole conversation she won't push you and make you feel weird. You know those stylists. We've all had 'em. Don't call the studio's main phone line. Nobody answers that. Mariah schedules all of her appointments herself. So you can text her directly at 520-668-3524. As of this writing she works Weds-Sat. If you want some samples of her work you should follow her Instagram: @thesanecatlady. (That's also one of my favorite IG handles.) Take it from me. My hair has always been naturally beautiful but somehow Mariah made it even better. Now I'm a total stud with amazing locks that all the ladies love.

I wanted to keep my length so I appreciated that she started cutting just a little less than I wanted and checked in with me along the way.
