I absolutely love this school for my son. The staff are friendly and really take the time to get to know my son and help him to grow.

My child went on to a competitive middle school (PCDS) since she had the hand in denying him admission and has now completed his semester freshmen year at PRINCETON with all A's. My neighbors kid was a member of the church and her student was denied for kindergarten because he couldn't draw a complete circle! SERIOUSLY! he is now a sophomore at BROPHY! How the diocese allows this school to deny their own based on one person's opinion is scary. So parents do not be discouraged if your child is denied admission here since they are "selective". Your child will be okay.

Then around 6th grade the schools then principle died from cancer and Ms. Elliot took over in her place as the new principle after that the school went from a fun learning environment to a horrid lockdown strict hellhole. After Ms. Elliot came into power, they locked the gates and installed new ones; this gave me a very unsafe insecure feeling as they basically locked us in. They installed secretary camera's everywhere. They also took down the old playground equipment and installed newer "safer" equipment which basically sucked. Then they changed the way they release students to school making a "drop off lane" it was horrid and I had to wait 30+ mins in the hot sun for my mom to drive through the line to pick me up. Before the lane it took me 3 mins to walk to my mom's car and leave. They outsourced the lunch food to a horrid company that made the worst garbage not fit for human consumption. Even though the school upgraded the playground, cameras and the Jail gates, they never upgraded the classrooms, cafeteria, buildings and "blacktop". They said they would get rid of the nasty portable buildings by 2004 but here they are, in 2009 still standing! In fact they built way more crappy portable buildings where the old playground used to be! There are many things the school promised to renovate but they never got to it the management is generally lazy. As far as academics, the classes are harder then any of the classes I've experienced at Brophy College prep, they push grade-schoolers extremely hard I had about 2-4hrs of homework every night. They teach algebra and chemistry at the college level in GRADESCHOOL! 2-4 page research papers were common assignments for various classes each week in 7-8th grade. They always told us it had to be formatted in Perfect MLA format for high school, truth is Brophy's workload was WAY MORE LIENENT and less then SFX ever was.

This school is very unique and classy. The playground areas are much bigger and expansive than before and more areas for the children to play and get their daily exercise and fresh air. The parking lot is all re-designed with much more parking space and area for teachers and visitors coming to the school. Overall, this facility is very sophisticated and classy and just what the community deserves.

Given that most people never know what all the issues are that someone else is dealing with, that is about as presumptuous as someone could possibly be. Whoever Sharon is should be embarrassed to have submitted that review. Here is what my 5 star rating is based on and why so many parents try to get waivers to get their kids into Lookout Mountain. If I have done one thing right in my life, it was choosing to move to Moon Valley in 1992 so my kids had the opportunity to attend Lookout Mountain!! Both of my children went to this school for K through 6th grade. Their experience was phenomenal. My wife was a former teacher who stayed home with our kids. Her experience with the teachers, the admin staff, the cross walk guards, the janitors, the volunteers and everyone associated with this school was great. Their classes, the dedication of the teachers and support staff for after school events and community functions were all great. My kids have tremendous memories and experiences all through their years at LM. I was very fortunate to get to be involved with the school in many ways and with my kids' fellow students through coaching them and seeing them daily around the community. These great kids are a reflection of their fantastic involved parents, their tremendous teachers and the people who work and volunteer at Lookout Mountain. This school is the cornerstone of the Moon Valley community and not because they have a very nice new building. It's the people that leave that building every day that make it what it is. Many of those people are volunteers who support this school like very few others. The community pride here permeates everything. I still live in the neighborhood and both of my kids have graduated from college. This school set the stage for them to get into very prestigious high schools and the universities of their choice with substantial scholarships. They both graduated at the top of their classes and are pursuing their dreams professionally. This school was the base for everything they have accomplished. I am hopeful my grand kids have an opportunity to go to Lookout Mountain. Many of our neighbors' kids go to Lookout Mountain and by all accounts its as good as it ever was. We are truly lucky to have this school in Moon Valley and I guess if I have to wait 10 minutes so one of the volunteers can get the information they might need, I will do it with a huge smile on my face.

Kathy and Steve and all of the teachers are super supportive of the kids, both inside and out of the classroom. I've even seen them support their students at their Battle of the Bands concerts and also when they set up businesses at farmer's markets. I've seen them support students when they're interested in starting charity drives at school. They really listen to the kids' interests and support their learning through fun and engaging projects. They're not just a school. They're a community that helps these kids become their best selves both inside and out of the classroom. We couldn't be happier with the quality of education, the dedicated teachers, and the principal; the school really feels like a nurturing home for children seeking a supportive atmosphere, friendly classes, and, most importantly, top-notch education. We feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to attend this school. The class sizes are small, and the teachers are exceptional. Many of them have been with the school for a long time, and they genuinely care about each student, taking the time to understand their needs and provide support for their success. A heartfelt thank you to all the teachers and the principal for being such amazing individuals who create a family-like community.
