This school is very unique and classy. The playground areas are much bigger and expansive than before and more areas for the children to play and get their daily exercise and fresh air. The parking lot is all re-designed with much more parking space and area for teachers and visitors coming to the school. Overall, this facility is very sophisticated and classy and just what the community deserves.

Given that most people never know what all the issues are that someone else is dealing with, that is about as presumptuous as someone could possibly be. Whoever Sharon is should be embarrassed to have submitted that review. Here is what my 5 star rating is based on and why so many parents try to get waivers to get their kids into Lookout Mountain. If I have done one thing right in my life, it was choosing to move to Moon Valley in 1992 so my kids had the opportunity to attend Lookout Mountain!! Both of my children went to this school for K through 6th grade. Their experience was phenomenal. My wife was a former teacher who stayed home with our kids. Her experience with the teachers, the admin staff, the cross walk guards, the janitors, the volunteers and everyone associated with this school was great. Their classes, the dedication of the teachers and support staff for after school events and community functions were all great. My kids have tremendous memories and experiences all through their years at LM. I was very fortunate to get to be involved with the school in many ways and with my kids' fellow students through coaching them and seeing them daily around the community. These great kids are a reflection of their fantastic involved parents, their tremendous teachers and the people who work and volunteer at Lookout Mountain. This school is the cornerstone of the Moon Valley community and not because they have a very nice new building. It's the people that leave that building every day that make it what it is. Many of those people are volunteers who support this school like very few others. The community pride here permeates everything. I still live in the neighborhood and both of my kids have graduated from college. This school set the stage for them to get into very prestigious high schools and the universities of their choice with substantial scholarships. They both graduated at the top of their classes and are pursuing their dreams professionally. This school was the base for everything they have accomplished. I am hopeful my grand kids have an opportunity to go to Lookout Mountain. Many of our neighbors' kids go to Lookout Mountain and by all accounts its as good as it ever was. We are truly lucky to have this school in Moon Valley and I guess if I have to wait 10 minutes so one of the volunteers can get the information they might need, I will do it with a huge smile on my face.

We switched from a public school…read morewhen one of my kids was struggling and it was obvious to everyone, including the teacher, but I was told they would test her in 3rd grade. She was only in 1st. She had been in a preschool that had a curriculum for three years before kindergarten, so she should have been either doing as well or better than most kids...not struggling like she was. I was told by a friend about Hearn Academy, so I went and checked it out and was very impressed. While she was attending the summer program, that they used to have, they noticed that she wasn't up to grade level and struggling. So they contacted us and asked if they could test her. This was without telling them we felt she was struggling. It was determined that she had a learning problem and needed help with training her brain to think differently and the teachers allowed more time for her to get her stuff done in he way that worked for her. After only 4 years with an IEP (in the special education program) she graduated out and was put in honors classes. I can't even and don't want to imagine what could have happened had she gone another 2 years without anyone working with her and us so that we too knew how to help her. Then my other child was advanced and we didn't even know it. Once again in the summer program before she even started Kindergarten we received a call that they wanted to test her as well as they felt she was getting board and may need to be in Honors classes as well. Who knew there was honors for Kindergarten. It turned out they were correct she is now in seventh grade and has been in the honors classes since day one and doing fantastic. The teachers seem to take the time to understand the kids and not treat them all the same. Are there issues at the school of course, is every teacher there perfect of course not, are there things there that can be improved of course, but over all their motto holds true: Children Are Our Priority!

It is a failure school and if they don't like a child, they will stay hating him for the whole year and if they do hate a child, they don't post any pictures of that specific child. They don't do anything even if you wanna like request something they do not do it they don't provide anything so disrespectful and don't come to the school. I will move my child from this school...

Mrs. Harpt, Mrs. Jenny, Mrs. Jessie, Mrs. Dunham, Mrs. Page, Mrs. Spade --- these are the teachers my daughter has had direct interaction with, and seriously they are WONDERFUL. I love their approach to resolving conflicts - talk it out, instead of time-outs or punishments. SUPER SMART! Mrs Harpt even has conflict resolution cards that offer different options for the kiddo to take, if s/he feels wronged. It's THE BEST. I love their focus on kindness and respect. When we aided the other day, the ratio was 5 grown-ups to 8 kids. I mean it doesn't get better than that. I also LOVE that the school offers parent aide (volunteer) opportunities that reduce tuition! So, I know all the kids at the school! Which sets my mama heart at ease knowing that my daughter interacts with all sorts of personalities. That way, she and I can discuss her interactions with friends at home, and she can directly transfer what we talk about. I have found myself in an unusual situation with my husband becoming ill, and the directors (Joanne & Julie) and the office staff (Matt & others) have been so very kind --- I forgot my daughters shoes once, and no problem. I had an issue with some aggressive in-laws, and the staff took it very seriously ensuring that no one NOT on the pickup list would ever grab my daughter. Additionally, they have allowed my husband to tag along with me when I aide, which provides him a sense of belonging, even though he lacks capacity to completely fulfill his role in a typical way. The staff and directors are tremendously empathetic, kind, non-reactive, respectful, and truly lovely to interact with. When I can donate or volunteer, I feel HONORED to do so! Whereas in other areas of my life, it can feel like a burden or resentment.... not SSP - It's a really magical place that fills my heart. I have found a family in SSP! (which says a lot since we moved away from family & friends 3 years ago!)

All the teachers are amazing and you can tell they really care about your child and provide such individualized support for each student. My kiddo had never been in any type of preschool or extracurricular classes before he started here last year and I was really worried how'd he'd adjust but they did such a good job giving him all the tools to excel and love learning.
