I had started the job myself but got an anchor screw stuck and figured I should have a pro step in so I didn't wreck my new walls. All the supplies were here, placed where they needed to be, holes were measured and marked for custom made rods and drapes. He charges by the hour and moves very, very slow. He didn't have his own step ladder or anchor screws. In the first hour, he managed to put in 3 screws in holes that had already been marked. He claimed he "needed to remeasure" and that's why it took so long, but he used the holes that I had already marked. He also said it was too hard to do with custom cut rods. He also said it wasn't his fault because I had an anchor screw stuck in the wall already, which was the whole reason I hired him. This is what pros do: they come prepared, know the required materials and techniques, and advise the customer on the best way to proceed. I knew we needed to cut it off when he asked me how to use an anchor screw. He didn't know if you needed to pre-drill or not for a very basic and common anchor. I cannot imagine a professional handyman not knowing that. He used a level to stare at the pre-marked holes for what seemed like an eternity, just eating up time. 3 screws = $200. Seems like a nice enough man, but handyman may not be the profession for him, and that's giving him the benefit of the doubt that he wasn't just trying to take advantage of someone he assumed was too naive too know how long the job should take. He became very defensive, making excuses when I said we'd need to end the job at one hour. Im sure judging by other less than 5 star reviews here (that I really wish I'd have taken the time to read) he will post a very defensive response here as well. Please just don't take a job you don't have the required expertise to complete, and I don't want to hear defensive excuses when I'm still out $200 for almost no work completed.

With regards to the heating of our home, the windows were no better than screens. I reached out, looking for windows and installers. I had a few people come in and estimate the job. None of them impressed me until Greg from Windows on Washington came over. He walked me through several options and explained how the windows they used were manufactured and why. Windows on Washington got the job. My windows and my doors were being manufactured. So they sent out a wonderful gentleman to get the final accurate measurements. Great guy. After that, communication was wonderful as were were assessed of the stage we were in. This included when we got the email and calls explaining that, since we were on a higher floor, they needed to bring in some equipment to lift the new doors up to our balcony. No surprises. Installation day was amazing as Joon and his team came in, got everything into place, and cleaned up the areas to better than when they got here. Joon then went over the features on our windows and even explained how we get to and clean the outsides of the glass. Wonderful man and amazing team. Since then, we have gotten copies of our warranty and the guarantees. And the company has reached out twice to ask if we have any questions and to ensure that we are happy with our windows. We are. Budget Blinds sends a rep to your house to show you samples and measure your windows, therefore, they don't need a storefront. It makes sense anyway because you need to see the colors of sample blinds/shades against your walls and trim. You think your trim is white? Maybe not. Hold up a sample of white shades and you can see you might be way off! The fiance and I used Budget Blinds a year ago to cover all our bare windows in our new house. Wayne, the owner came over and went over all sorts of options. We used roman blinds on our patio doors, honeycomb shades in our sunroom, shutters in a few rooms, then wood blinds throughout the rest of the house. That may seem like a lot of different styles, but they really fit each individual room and we've been super happy with our choices a year later. We had another lady come by first when we were looking at blinds and she suggested we get all the same blinds throughout the house so it would look uniform from the outside. Wayne was great because he pointed out that you're in your house 95% of the time you're looking at your blinds...so get what you want and don't worry about what they look like from the street! One of the things with the houses out here in Loudoun County, is that so many have these 2nd story windows in the front foyer of the house. And you can't reach that window. Ever. That means any peeper, neighbor, or random solicitor walking up to your house can get a full view if you want to streak across your upstairs hallway in the nude. The fiance and I disagreed a year ago if a covering was needed for that window. I, of course, wanted a blind on that window. He argued there aren't any peepers in the neighborhood. Well, after continuing to be creeped out for a year leaving the window bare, I called Budget Blinds again. Wayne came by and suggested I get a motorized blind for the peeper window. That way we could raise and lower the blind with a remote control. The blinds should arrive in a few weeks, and I'll feel so much more comfortable that strangers on the street won't get a full view into the 2nd story hallway of our house. Give Budget Blinds a try if you need window treatments. They aren't the cheapest, they aren't the most expensive, but a good middle ground with plenty of expertise where you see a full spectrum of choices. Let me describe the services provided and why it was awesome. We were in the midst of redecorating and had several rooms that we were planning to repaint. Linda had a fixed price for a set number of rooms that we thought was very reasonable to begin with. We were really expecting her to stop by, take a look at our house, understand our needs and provide recommendations. But, oh...she did so much more. Linda spent 7 hours with us! For each space that we consulted her on, she asked us to describe usage, provided recommendations, then held up color swatches on the walls so we could see what the color would look like in bright light and shadows and further gave us decor tips. We did not just pick colors, we felt confident in our choices. As I think back to our initial experience when we moved in, we liked a lot of color and picked some bold colors throughout pretty randomly. Unfortunately, less than 4 years later we are re-painting so many areas because the color seems overbearing or did not really work. If we had used Linda's services right at the start, we wouldn't be repainting so soon so we would have saved money! In the end, we have picked shades of a similar color but as Linda explained, there is a rhythm to this, as you move from active areas to areas where light fades and gets bright, you see a consistency and can also change moods somewhat. Again, YMMV, but all-in-all, I don't think anyone will be dissatisfied with Linda...she goes out of her way to please...she need not have spent 7 hours with us and we think that the decor tips she provided are strong. Her work ethic and enthusiasm was excellent...we almost could not keep up with her even after 7 hours. 10/10 for her service and enthusiasm.
