I would not recommend this therapy group and find their attitude towards children extremely detrimental. First off, I would like to say I ignored a big red flag on the first screening visit. The head therapist who has a master's in Speech does the first screening to decide what category your child is in. The catagories are 1. Can be helped or 2. Cannot be helped. I didn't realize at the time that children were shuffled into a category in the beginning but I recall that she said to me that most children come to this place and cannot be helped so they just deal with that but they will never get better. Little did I know that those words evolved into an unsafe and negative experience for myself and my son. MY son has a severe language disorder because of global dyspraxia. At five, he cannot string more than two word sentences. Most children with this disorder do not talk until 8 or 9 and are average to above average intelligence. This group did not understand or were willing to understand his disorder. The head therapist keeps the kids that have hope, meaning very minor issues like not pronouncing a few sounds and then moves the hopeless cases to the speech assistant that holds an AA degree. My son was moved on to the AA degree therapist, which by the way was really good. The head therapist did not see my son for more than 5 min. but took my information but seemed very confident to tell me that he would not get better and we all have to get on board with that idea. Once she has defined your child, that's it. No room for getting out of that box. I tried over and over to say that he was a smart boy and reading at a K-1st grade level and doing math at his preK age. Every skill that my son possessed she answered (in front of him) that it was not a sign of any intelligence but just a compensation skill of speech so it was not a promising sign. She was determined to throw my son under the bus at only five years old no matter what information I brought to the table. I was so distraught and worried that her opinion would influence the other therapist and it would turn into more of a babysitting therapy session instead of true work to wholeness session that I began to worry about it. I wrote on Facebook to my friends of my experience but did not mention the business name or therapists name. I was trying to figure out a way to convince her that he was not retarded but at least average IQ. Well, the owner found my post and sent it on to the lady. Again, I did not say any names but was wondering if it was normal to argue that my son would be special his whole life and how upset it made me that she wouldn't listen to me about what he can do or about his condition. Well, it was planned at their office that they would cancel all appointments so I would show up alone in the office for my appointment. I believe it was a way to get back at me for the Facebook post without any witnesses. The two therapists came out standing like soldiers to humiliate me and terminate my son from services. The first thing that came out of the head therapist's mouth was "I saw your post" then I tried to show them the workbooks that my son did and tell them my son is smart. She would not listen and just said loudly, "Do not raise your voice to me!" the strange thing was that I wasn't raising my voice but I guess it was like a planned way to get back at me for disagreeing with her about my son's prognoses. She then ordered me out of the office saying that "This case is terminated!" I was shaking and she kind of laughed and said, "The door is not locked, Just open it." All in front of my child. I think they could have called me and canceled and not subjected my child to the humiliation of rejection to him not to mention the last visit saying in front of him that he has no signs of intelligence. They upset and confused my son and the poor younger therapist hugged my son goodbye as he was upset. My husband talked to the owner and told her to fix things with me but she did not call or do anything. Makes be wonder if she had anything to do with that premeditated bullying technique. But the bottom line is, if your child has very minor issues and you will not ever question the opinion made on your child then probably you will be treated different than me. But if your child is put in the hopeless category, you had better just accept what the lady says and suck up to her if you don't want to let it come down on your child. My opinion is that a larger business like PT Northwest is much more considerate and professional and does not make statements of hopelessness and insults but focuses on their job of helping children to speak. They say up front that they do not know who will speak and who will not speak but it is the hope that all will speak. I believe this small business is more like a personality cult then a larger business that has more accountability for the protection of children's psyches. read more

We love Creating Pathways! We started going there a little over year ago for our then three-year-old. We had had a valuations done by WESD and PT Northwest. Both lead to insufficient treatment options (PT northwest said "he's fine... Come or don't come," and WESD could provide a maximum of 20 minute sessions two times a month.). After our initial evaluation... We were told to start weekly sessions... Which we gladly did! We were also given recommendations for other valuations to try... We did that and came back with learning that creating pathways and weekly sessions were the best treatment for our child. He has made a tremendous amount of progress in a short amount of time! Parents also must understand that there is only so much that can be done in one hour... And it requires you to be a very active participant in your child's treatment. You must listen to the recommendations... And then follow through. We have always been treated warmly, professionally, and with our child's best interest in mind. I recommend this place professionally and personally several times a week. The therapist team also gives back to the community- the hold sessions where ANY parent can come in and receive a quick assessment of their child... If they need services they are welcome to go to whomever they would like to or that their insurance reimburses for... No strings attached... My children have been receiving services at Creating Pathways since fall of 2018...the staff are always welcoming, helpful, and attentive to our needs as well as the needs of our children. My husband and I have never felt left out of anything pertaining to our child's progress or the goals that have been made; they've always made it a point to communicate with us after each visit and it is something that I greatly appreciate. My children see Stephanie for speech therapy and Emily for occupational therapy. I would HIGHLY recommend them both, not only are they exceptional at their jobs but they are exceptional human beings as well. They have changed our lives and the lives of our children for the better and we are so grateful. Our kids absolutely love them both and look forward to their visits and come out smiling from ear to ear. Even during covid-19, and when things were so uncertain and meeting in person wasn't an option they made every effort to make doing therapy over zoom a positive experience and as fun for the kids as possible. read more

My relationship with CP and their outstanding therapists is two fold: First, as a local elementary teacher, I often recommend CP wholeheartedly to families looking for speech services. Their staff is amazing. I've found their therapy to be highly effective and, more importantly, focused on the child and dedicated to treating each one with the highest care. They are inclusive of families and conduct themselves with professionalism and an unmatched passion for the important work they do. I have been highly impressed and will continue to refer families to this clinic. Secondly, when I had concerns about my own daughter (age 3), I was able to have them quickly and professionally addressed by the therapists at CP. As a parent, I felt heard. As I tell everyone I refer here, this is the ONLY place I would ever consider bringing my own children--and that's the very highest recommendation I can give! read more

My son has been seen by the therapists at CP each week for about 10 months now; his progress & growth is incredible. As a parent of a child that struggles in different areas, it can be hard to hear the truth sometimes. However, it's crystal clear that his best interest is their #1 priority, and they've been a pivotal component to his progress socially both in and out of the school setting. The staff at CP has also been extremely supportive in helping with feedback and therapy reports, that I can forward to the teachers and staff at my son's school. This allows everyone on his team to effectively create the best possible plan for him at school, with consideration to all the progress he's making in his therapy. Creating Pathways is doing this right! Our children are both on the spectrum and choosing a therapy center was not easy. From the beginning of our experience with Creating Pathways we were welcomed with open arms, listened to, and reassured that our children would be treated with the upmost care and respect on their "path" through therapy. We leave every single session with homework that helps and a therapist that explains, in detail, what was done with our boys. The staff is highly trained and treats us like family. This clinic is so wonderful and child focused. My son has been to all kinds of outpatient clinics in town due for on going treatment of a Neurological disability. This is the first time I felt like the therapy is 100% focused on kids and evidence based. But what I love most is how much he enjoys meeting with these professionals. It does not seem like work to him even though he continues to gain important skills from his engagements, he thinks he is going to have fun with his friends. Nothing but the best experiences with this clinic. Have taken two of my children there for speech services. All staff are polite, friendly, courteous and showed interest and care for our children. The clinic moved and is now further away from our home, but it is worth a cross town drive to see our favorite therapist. Our younger child (3) has what we believe to be apraxia and was basically non verbal when we started going to therapy here. Our older child (10) is continuing work on a lateral lisp. Both children have been respected and cared for by the therapists they have seen. read more

My son went to creating pathways from the date they opened. He has autism and were so excited when a therapy center opened in Salem!! The staff are so kind and knowledgeable. My son enjoyed going and they had great ideas for at home to work with him. They covered all his therapy needs and did so with a smile. We have since moved to Alabama so sadly we had to stop going. Sad this place was okay my daughter liked one of her therapist. Salem office has a rude reception. They can not communicate at all. This place has went all to politics. A amazing reception in the Albany office got fired for no reason what so ever. I made a post about how I would not recommend this place and they kicked my daughter out due to the post. read more

I highly recommend Stephanie shes my sons speech therapist and Kecia his Occupational therapist. He started seeing them about 2 years ago when he was 2 and ive seen significant improvement. He was only able to make sounds and point to things now youd never know he's a entire different kid. We love them And cant thank them enough! read more
