Express Cabinets

Express Cabinets

My condo flooded and State Farm paid for new cabinets. I made the unfortunate mistake of choosing…read moreRick at Express Cabinets to do the work. On September 19, 2017, I signed a contract for cabinets and granite. Express Cabinets offers three shades (white, antique white, and a 3rd, which name escapes me) of white and my contract specified "white". The cabinets didn't show up for install until November 1st, 2017. They were delivered with a broken drawer and missing doors and in the WRONG color, antique white, not "white". The new drawer and doors weren't delivered until December 14, 2017 and one of the new doors was delivered BROKEN!! It wasn't until January 23rd, 2018 that the new door was delivered and installed -- FOUR AND A HALF MONTHS after I signed Rick's contract! There is NOTHING "express" about Express Cabinets. Now, back to the original install day: Rick hired Matt with Honey Done Handyman to do the install. After 3 days, Matt quit the job unfinished. When I contacted Rick about this, he offered no apology and his only "solution" was to get another contractor AFTER they completed jobs that hadn't even started yet! So, rather than finish my job, he proposed I wait until jobs that were scheduled, but not started get finished first. This is poor customer service. During Matt's short stint as my cabinet installer, he damaged one of the uppers and glued a piece of wood over it to hide it, causing that side of the cabinets to not look like the other sides. He refused to anchor the largest cabinet to the ceiling, despite me clearly marking the rafters. So, now my large, over-the-fridge cabinet cannot support as much weight as I had hoped since it's only mounted to the back wall. Matt mounted the drawers crooked, which created a crooked gap between my dishwasher and the drawers. The second installer Rick sent out was more competent, but sadly, still sub-par. His solution to "fix" the crooked gap was to tilt the dishwasher to match, then tilt the end panel on the other side of the dishwasher so all of it was crooked, but at least the noticeable gap would be gone. This is unacceptable! Even worse, this new installer dropped a tool, causing damage to my new vinyl floor. In addition, when this new installer attempted to "fix" the dishwasher gap, he forced the end panel, breaking it off of its floor anchors and his solution to fix that was to glue it to the floor. It was at this point I had to just ask him to leave and I will be fixing all of Rick's mistakes myself. And to top it all off, after Matt quit and I was talking with Rick about Matt's mistakes and some blemishes I found on the cabinets, Rick never apologized and had to audacity to say, "You didn't order high-end cabinets, Trent" as though that excuses his shitty cabinets and his shitty contractors. I cannot recommend Express Cabinets or Matt with Honey Done Handyman to anyone. Save your time, your money, and your sanity and hire someone else.

I would not recommend this company. Although timely in completing the job, quality suffers. I had…read morethem replace an existing island, due to it's odd shape, and replace the old Formica countertop for solid surface. I informed the salesperson of what I wanted, including the fact I liked the size of the drawers I currently had and one pullout. I had to send the drawings back twice as she didn't keep those things in mind. Unfortunately I didn't double check her measurements when I signed off so the island ended up being too large for the space but somehow not the size of drawers and pullouts I wanted. To make it work, I decided to leave out one section so it would fit. The owner did come out to look at the problem but offered no solution-- refused to take back the unwanted cabinet. I must mention that the cabinets were made of quality materials and they did a nice job matching the existing cabinets, but the center drawers were not attached right from the get go and wouldn't pull it and a door hinge fell of within a week of installation. They did come fix them both. The counter top needed to be 15 inches shorter, and they refunded me only $100 for that. However, the counters have some obvious flaws. The island has a grey line running a quarter length of the top, and the seams on either side of the sink are not completely sealed. I had the installer come try to fix them. After 4 visits (because he either didn't have enough materials or he made other damaging marks that required he come back) I gave up. He kept saying that if the counters weren't white than I'd not even notice. Well, they are white. And I paid for and was promised seamless white counters. If they can't be done in white, the business shouldn't offer them. Perhaps this is why they were the only company not booked out months in advance. Their prices were no better than other places. Only advantage was how quickly they were able to do it. But then again, good things come to those that wait. I'd recommend you wait for someone else

MJ Design Custom Cabinets

While other customers have had positive and satisfying experiences with this vendor - our personal…read moresaga has been much different. Our review is solely based on what we have personally and individually gone through in utilizing this sub-contractor. We needed custom cabinets for two basement bathrooms on a new home build. MJ Design was recommended to us by the folks that did our granite countertops. We set an appointment, and Jared came out to our home for an initial visit. We identified our needs and shortly thereafter we received an initial quote. Much to our surprise, the price was well above our expectations, yet we felt like Jared's initial "sales pitch of being a perfectionist" and considering customer support & communication with the client" two of his highest priorities - we swallowed the bitter money pill and paid approximately $9,000 for two, bathroom cabinets.- signing the verbose and somewhat occluded work order/authorization (here, like pretty much every other homeowner we trusted in good faith that we not only would be taken care of, but more importantly we would have a credible voice in the event something went astray). During our initial design visit we unequivocally expressed and explained to Jared what specific stain we wanted on the cabinetry to the smaller bathroom. Jared assured us that he could produce what we requested. At no point did he provide either a sample or even a photo of what "ebony" stain would look like as a final product. Our primary requests where to ensure that the expensive walnut grain would be clearly seen through the stain - Once again we put our faith in him as the expert he proffered to be. When the cabinets arrived for installation - it was immediately apparent that there was a problem. While the larger bathroom cabinetry was fine, the smaller bathroom cabinet was stained a dark, pitch black and not in any form what we originally agreed upon. That same day and before any installation occurred, we notified Jared of the problem, we stated our preference - that the problem cabinet was not to be installed, that it be taken back to his shop and fixed as to what we expected/needed. His immediate response was to have all the cabinets installed and we "could work things out later", so once again - with concern now growing, we allowed for the installers to do their job. What followed as one might identify as a "remedial effort at reaching an acceptable solution" instantaneously decomposed into overt events of "doubling down and falling back on what was requested per the work order/authorization" - now days after the installation had occurred Jared produced a definition of "ebony" a definition which was unknown to us when ordering - as a point of interest it was at this time that we found that the specific language found within his work order/authorization is crafted in such a unilateral manner that it leaves the customer without any significant legal recourse- should you elect to undergo a contract with this individual, it will be to your greatest benefit to read every single word in the fine print. This obvious a case of "Buyer Beware". Jared did come out to our house and see the problem for himself. At that time, he let us know that the outside panels of the cabinets would have to be made anew, and that he shouldered "part of the responsibility - during that specific conversation" (at no time did he identify or assign any additional expense for us). We were left with the expectation that the new cabinet panels would arrive shortly and be installed as per our original work order/contract. After his visit - we received an email for a change order and an additional $800.00 charge for the new cabinet panels. This is when we witnessed in fact what "perfectionism and customer support" truly mean in this venue. For two weeks we texted, called and emailed. In every single one of those communication platforms, we optimistically searched for a way to reach an acceptable solution (our intent has always been to help protect the brand name of those folks who take great pride in the quality of their trade). The few replies we received, unfortunately contained (once again) the same verbiage of "what was ordered" and the menace of possible additional costs that (according to the contract) he could, should he wish, bring forth. Just to further clarify, I am quoting his last email to us: "There is no use going back and forth, this will be my LAST email". How would you feel as a dissatisfied and frustrated customer? Home building is stressful enough without these gauntlets. How we wish that our experiences with MJ Design would have been different, the real irony is that they very well should have.
