Anytime I'm anywhere near Cortez, I make it a point to stop by Cold Stone Creamery. There's just…read moresomething special about this location that makes it stand out from the rest. It doesn't feel like a typical chain ice cream shop -- it feels personal, welcoming, and comfortable, almost like hanging out in someone's living room with really good dessert. A big part of that experience comes from the owners, Jeremy and Raedene. You can tell they genuinely care about the store and the people who walk through the door. They've created an atmosphere that feels relaxed and friendly, where families can sit down and enjoy time together without feeling rushed. The dining area is clean, cozy, and inviting, which makes it easy to stay awhile and enjoy every bite. As for the ice cream -- it's honestly the best around. The flavors are incredibly creamy, the ingredients taste fresh, and the portions are generous. Watching the staff mix everything together on the frozen stone never gets old, and they do it with skill and enthusiasm. Whether you're ordering a signature creation or building your own masterpiece, it always turns out delicious. The team working there deserves recognition too. They're upbeat, polite, and clearly enjoy what they do. That positive energy carries through the entire shop and makes the whole experience even better. If you're looking for amazing ice cream, friendly faces, and a great atmosphere, this is the place. I highly recommend stopping in -- you'll quickly see why it's such a favorite.

There are a moderate number of seats available, but the restaurant filled up quickly. Clean interior, basic decor. FOOD: Very limited menu, no alcohol. We ordered the ravioli and sage chicken. The ravioli was delicious with a nice cream sauce, we enjoyed the addition of the sun dried tomatoes. The chicken was also delicious, stuffed with a mixture which included sage to impart more sage flavor. The chicken dish was accompanied by a generous scoop of flavored rice and Brussels sprouts cooked with dried cranberries. OVERALL: We were very pleased with the meal and full afterwards. Service was good. Overall solid meal!

We had the crabmeat "boats" for an appetizer, which was a halved avocado (2 boats - one per half) overflowing with the crabmeat and jicama shreds, flavored with mango sauce, cayenne, and paprika. It was superb!!! My husband had their signature burger, which also had a delicious array of seasonings and mango sauce on a pretzel roll. I had their salmon, which was a generous slab of salmon accompanied by asparagus and roasted cauliflower (I opted to switch the potatoes for cauliflower). Honestly, this was a special meal for us and Duke's made it an excellent evening.

If you want Pizza, I recommend coming here. They have other food as well, but I can't comment on it. I got the pizza and took it back to the hotel room. It looks like a decent place to sit there and eat it, but certainly not a place for a date.

The owners response on to me on Google Maps confirms that their employee was eating pepperonis and sticking fingers in her mouth while preparing a customer's pizza. As I was paying for my pizza, I witnessed a young female employee stick her fingers into her mouth and then into the pepperoni tub as she made a customer's pizza. I saw her continue to eat pepperonis as she prepared the pizza. I pointed this out to the clerk (a 20-30 year old male with a dark ponytail) and I said it was inappropriate and disgusting for an employee to be touching the customer's food while sticking her fingers into her mouth, and eating, and that I don't want someone else's spit on my food. The man got visibly upset and nasty, and said in a whiny tone that she wasn't doing anything wrong and it's totally fine to have your fingers in your mouth while making food to sell to the public. I was shocked at his response - it's one thing for a child to make a silly mistake while cooking, another for a grown man to not see the obvious health hazard here. We paid for our pizza and left (to avoid making a scene, and to support the employees working who were innocently doing their jobs), but threw it away out of fear of retribution since the cashier was so nasty to me. I've filed a complaint with both the city of Monticello and the San Juan County public health department. If employees are willing to be that disgusting in public in front of customers, I shudder to think of how they behave when out of sight.
