I had just returned from LA, where I had been introduced to the famous Pinkberry store, which operates on the same principal. I had loved what I had ordered there, and found it very good value for money. I had hoped for the same thing with Yogo, so ordered a small pot with an extra topping. This came to £3.00! the small serving is extremely small, and there was not a huge choice of toppings - about 15 or 16 different types of fruit and a few sweet things like granola, mixed nuts and coconut shavings. It just seems so expensive for something so small. a large serving with a couple of toppings will bring it up to about £5.00. Who can afford to spend this much on frozen yogurt? I went off feeling a bit short changed. I still had my pot when I walked into the health food store around the corner, and the guy behind the till asked my opinion of the place. I told him my gripe, and he said that a lot of people have made the similar complaint - that it is just too expensive. The fact that this place seems quiet when I have gone past echos this; I hope that the prices can be amended, because in principle it is a good, and healthy idea.

When I first saw their logo and chanced upon this place I thought it was a new yoga venue with a 'clever' name Since my first visit and having discovered more I'm not sure the Paris link is a major selling point but I am a fan of frozen yogurt and theirs professes to be organic and pro-biotic, with just 94 calories in a 100g portion. It's refreshing on a summer's day and a healthier alternative to traditional ice-cream; try it au naturel or go further and up-the-taste by adding a virtuous fresh fruit topping (berry, banana, kiwi or mango), if you're in an indulgent mood add-in chocolate chips, coconut, granola or mixed nuts. (The basic product tastes just like what it is - frozen natural yogurt without a huge amount of flavour.) Then again, you could simply come in here for an organic Fair Trade tea or a reviving Brazilian guarana-fruit bar. It's not the cheapest snack option around (a small portion starts at £1.85) but if you're looking for something cool, healthy and satisfying, it fits the bill in a relatively guilt-free way. You can take a break from your shopping exertions or riverside wandering and eat-in here at one of the simple white table settings or just purchase to-go. Staff are enthusiastic, helpful, patient and happy to offer suggestions or wait while you make your choice. I guess it will be the first in a line of several branches.

We appreciate Zola's initiative as fellow gelato lovers, because Unico really spares no expense to bring the best Gelato from Italy to Bromley's doorstep (those local to Bromley - be appreciative as others like me travel far to get a taste of the wondrous gelato). The actual store is owned and run by the very sharp and considered Elena Manfroni. As for the gelato itself my favourites are the Pistachio and Bacio - both also contain pistachio and hazelnuts (something very uncommon of other gelateria's as its quite a high cost!) The coffee flavour is good, and I also had a flat white which was delicious. Apparently the coffee itself is sourced from a store in Bologna. Everything here is prepared fresh daily and it really is a must stop for anyone visiting Bromley. Superb!

I had passed Gelato Mio a few times on the bus but it wasn't until a gloriously sunny day after a long hot walk through Bishop's Park did I finally get a taste. The shop isn't very big and for some crazy reason the counter is quite close to the shop window and the blazing sun but other than that Gelato Mio is my heaven on earth. I've been back more times that I care to admit and I am still seriously contemplating getting one of their take away containers and quickly getting it home in a cab, something that would cost me near £20 just for ice cream! Believe me it is worth it. The scoops are generous and all the classic flavours are there. My favourites are Fragola (strawberry) and Pistaccio where my husband's fav is Stracciatella for the rich chocolate chips. My father loves ice cream and he had only just been in town a few weeks before I made my discovery. During that visit he asked if there was anywhere to go for good ice cream near where we live in Putney. If only I had known about this place when he was here. Sigh. I know they have several locations (including St. Pancras) but I've only been to the Fulham branch. The quality is impeccable so I would bet they are all the same. So I first went for a coffee to a neaby place that I regularly go to so I was surprised when I saw this place on my way home. The seating area is really quiet and calming, just what I needed. The place was empty, so that helped too. There is a comfy corner sofa as well as a few tables with benches. They also offer hot drinks so it is a nice alternative to the usual coffee shop, particularly as they also have wifi, so a good spot to do some work while sipping your coffee or enjoying a lovely Italian gelato. I guess the downside is that the seating area is inside so not the best option when it is sunny outside. Now, on to the gelato itself.... they were really great! I love ice-cream, although I am not ice cream connoisseur, but these tasted delicious to me. I tried several flavours, as I wasn't sure which ones to order and the person that served us encouraged us to taste them first instead, which was great. So I tasted a few and in the end I had the strawberry one (sooo yummy! very creamy and natural), the chocolate and hazelnut one (if you like Nutella, go for it, enough said!) and the banana and kiwi (again, very creamy and natural, it didn't have the strong flavour that the others had but it was very nice too) The person that served us was also attentive and nice. The person I went with mentioned that it would fit better to have a bubbly and outgoing person instead behind the counter, as the girl was an Italian girl kind of shy and quiet. For me, she contributed to the calmness I felt in the place, which is what I was after, so she helped to make the experience pleasant. The one thing that I will say though is that I found it too pricey, at £2.90 for one scoop. This will mean that rather than go there every time I feel like an ice cream (or even just a coffee, knowing that I would definitely have an ice cream too once I see them), I will just go for an occassional treat, shame :(

I had the parma ham and rocket pizza. Gorgeously fresh dough with a crunchy crust. Although it must've been very salty as I experienced an unquenchable thirst afterwards. My friend's lasagne was scaldingly hot to start but duly wolfed down, so I'm assuming it tasted good. My gluten-free choc cake and ice cream had an unexpected amaretto flavour, and it was a tad dry. I still enjoyed it, and it was wonderfully gooey for the final few mouthfuls. Friendly, attentive staff coupled with exceptionally reasonable prices (especially with a Taste Card) gives Al Forno a solid four. Recommended.
