They had everything setup and ready prior to the event starting and kept everything in stock in well order throughout the event. All the food was tasty, but the spinach and artichoke mushrooms were especially good. The staff was very polite and helpful, ensuring that any trash was promptly cleared and offering to take anything no longer needed from the attendees. Crazy Dutchman put on a fabulous oyster roast at our home and we could not have been happier. They set every thing up and made it super simple. From start to finish - they were extremely quick to communicate and very upfront with all of their policies, contracts, etc. Any questions that I had through my entire planning process for our wedding, they were so quick to respond and super helpful with all of my questions. We used Crazy Dutchman Catering for our catering needs at our wedding. Hans was the first one to respond from all of my contracts to caterers, and was the quickest to get me a quote. Hans was very easy to work with while planning a wedding from long distance, and he went with all of our requests. I requested that the starters and the entrees be served all at once since we were not having a cocktail hour. Hans told me about having a cocktail hour, and how that is normally done, but since I was having a short reception, I wanted it to be served at once and he accommodated that request. Our menu items included a fruit tray, vegetable tray, pimento cheese with crackers, seasoned chicken, pork bbq, macaroni and cheese, steamed veggies, and green beans. We were able to have a quick bite of the pimento cheese, which was fabulous. The catering team sent us home with a box each of the food (sadly no pimento cheese), but we were very tired by the time we got to the hotel that we did not eat it. Many of our guests did mention it was great food, so that is always a plus! The day after our wedding we went over to my parents house and they had some of the left over food, which we took some pork, mac and cheese, and veggies home with us to freeze to have when we returned from our honeymoon. The pork was handsdown amazing, such great flavor with no sauce needed! The mac and cheese was disappointing, which is sad because I am a huge mac and cheese lover! I loved how creamy it was, but it had the cheap american cheese flavor to it, so if it had a different cheese it would be much better. The vegetables were also good. We also used Hans for our bar, he had reasonable prices for these. We were thinking about doing it on our own, which would have saved us a bit of money, but to make it easy on us and our family, we just used his services. We had a wine and beer bar with peach sangria. The peach sangria was amazing. I was worried about not having tasted it prior as some sangrias are just not good, but I enjoyed it! I read another review on another site that mentioned that she always had a drink in her hand by Hans' staff, but that was not the case with us. It was far too difficult to get away from guests to drink and I did not get to have a glass of the moscato I asked to be added to the wine bar. Besides the small mac and cheese and wine disappointment, I have two negatives, that stand out to me. 1. Hans told me tips were not included and it is appreciated when tips are left for the staff and bartender. If you want me to be the one to tip these guys, do not leave out a tip jar for my guests to feel obligated to tip. I did not leave a big tip for this reason. 2. I emailed with Hans about seeing if they could be the ones to cut and serve the wedding cake. He told me it would be no problem if I brought the supplies to cut the cake and the plates/forks for the cake. After Kevin and I cut the first slice for us to bite, my photographer asks me if I had someone to cut the cake. I told her the catering crew was supposed to. She went to get them and they said it was not in the contract. I again told her my e-mails with Hans, and she said not to worry about it, just walk away and she would take care of it (She is the best!) I do not know if she ended up getting them to cut the cake or one of our family members, but clearly it was not communicated between Hans and his staff. We loved them from the start. Hans is so kind and gave us such great advice, well before we were even ready to book our venue and do tastings. I never felt like he was pushy or sales-y. He gave his honest opinion and taught us a lot about the low country, as we were planning our wedding from Chicago. We really appreciated it, especially considering there was no guarantee we were going to go with Crazy Dutchman Catering in the first place. That really stood out to me and showed how they are genuinely great people. Once our venues were booked, we went to CDC for a tasting and loved them. They let us taste almost the entire menu, and it was incredible. They always kept our budget in mind and suggested effective ways to cut down on costs. They were very, very helpful and professional. We worked with Brooke during the wedding planning process and she was incredibly professional, fair, easy to work with and she always had our budget and best interests in mind. She gave so many great recommendations, and also took care of our rentals, which was actually cheaper than doing it on our own. What a relief, especially since we were planning from Chicago! CDC did a low country boil for our rehearsal dinner and then all of the food and bars at our wedding the following day. We are STILL getting compliments on how incredible their food was for both nights. Everyone is still drooling over their food - they are THAT good. My experience with Crazy Dutchman was nothing short of amazing. I live out of town and was planning a large rehearsal/welcome dinner for my son's destination wedding. The food was amazing. They cooked the Low Country Boil on site, BBQ, Mac n cheese, green beans..all were fabulous. Received many compliments from all who attended. Being from another state communication was very important and they did not disappoint. They were very responsive to each email and made great suggestions and were easy to work with for the few modifications to the alcohol selections that I requested. Crazy Dutchman was recommended to us by a family friend who was beyond thrilled with how their services worked out for their event. We began discussing menus and after we received our first estimate, were sold on the value. We wanted to have a reception menu that reflected "us" and had items we both loved. After some back and forth between my bride and I, we committed to a menu and scheduled a tasting at their offices. This was one of the more fun aspects of wedding plan in our opinion and we highly recommend doing so if you can. Eating in front of someone who is not also eating is a tad awkward, but they take detailed notes if you want items to be seasoned differently or something does not suit. Everything we tried we liked and were excited to share with our guests. During the tasting we were able to modify a few other items to include the plates and utensils from their baseline and see what the options were. We opted to use disposable hard plastic plates that looked like fine china with silver plastic utensils, which saved us nearly $1k in china rentals and reduced the overall labor cost. Another neat part of the tasting experience is seeing all the notes on the walls thanking this catering company for donating all the leftover food from their events to the Crisis Ministries. Our guests LOVED the food at the reception and no one went home hungry. Our coordinator had a staff that brought plates of food from all three stations to our sweetheart table. Our only regret is that we were not able to eat more, but as the bride and groom, that's how it goes. They made sure we had to go boxes to take as we departed the reception which were greatly appreciated after a wonderful and busy day. From the very start everything was upfront and we always felt we could reach with any questions that were answered in a timely manner. The Crazy Dutchman catered a taco bar dinner for my daughter's small college graduation, which was held on Folly Beach. The food, price, and service were both outstanding! The set up and take down time was all done as planned, and without any interruptions of the party. The tacos and rice were a hit, and the beans were a favorite! The food was plenty, well enough for leftovers when everyone was hungry again! The price for everyrhing was all very reasonable, as well. Even a couple of weeks after my wedding, I still had guests gushing about the food!! When I first began discussion with Hans about what kind of food was to be served at the wedding, he recommend we do heavy hors d'oeuvres as opposed to a sit-down plated or buffet-style dinner. I have to admit I was skeptical at first...I was worried all of our out-of-town guests would go hungry. This couldn't be further from the truth. When my fiance and I went to taste the hors d'oevres, we returned home with to-go boxes and we were both full! Hans knew what he was talking about - the heavy hors d'oeuvres style worked the best for our reception since there weren't seats for all of our guests, but more cocktail tables for standing room. We did passed appetizers, stationary appetizers and the main hors d'oeuvres were bacon-stuffed mushrooms, shrimp and grits, a mashed potato bar (so simple, but everyone raved about it), pork tenderloin and crab cakes. Everything was delicious and none of our guests went home hungry or disappointed. We even had boxes of food to take to the hotel afterwards! As far as the staff goes, they couldn't be more professional. They have catering a wedding down to a science. Karen is AWESOME. I loved working with the entire staff - they make an great team. They provide great communication and worked with my budget and ever-fluctuating guestcount. Where do I even begin? Hans and Karen from Crazy Dutchman catering were spectacular! I just got married and had them cater my wedding at Boone Hall. From the start they were incredibly friendly and helpful. As a long distance bride, their assistance really helped calmed my nerves and made the whole wedding run smoothly. I hired them without being able to do a tasting, since I was not local. But, their rave reviews online helped me feel very comfortable doing that. Our menu included: for apps- mozzarella/ tomato stacks, swedish meatballs and spinach/ artichoke dip; dinner: chicken skewers, BBQ pulled pork sliders, shrimp n grits, vidalia onion cole slaw, green beans with almonds, sweet potatoes, mac n cheese, rolls w honey butter, mixed green salad. It was all AMAZING! all of my guests raved about the food and many got seconds. In addition to the delicious meal, we got a full bar from them. All of the their prices were sooooo reasonable- I talked to numerous caterers in town and Crazy Dutchman were MUCH better than other caterer. Both food and liquor were a fantastic value. Originally I was going to do the alcohol myself but it was great to just let them take care of it...one less thing for me to worry about. Lastly, they coordinated with synder rentals and helped me decide all of the rentals I needed for the wedding. As DIY bride, this was a HUGE help. Karen and I must have sent 50 emails back and forth, and in each and every one she was patient, incredibly helpful and a pleasure to work with. Overall I give them 5 stars- ten if I could!
