This is specifically a review of the BC Crazy Dough's on Commonwealth Ave. I have been pleased with other Crazy Dough's in the past and decided to give this one a try. This location is subpar and I had a negative experience today. Slice variety is both a blessing and a curse at Crazy Dough's. I loved being able to choose between so many toppings without having to commit to an entire pie, but most of the slices looked like they had been sitting for hours- hardened cheese and dried out veggies abound. Of course the slices were heated, but they didn't get piping hot. Also, the topping and cheese distribution left a lot to be desired. At just over $7 for two slices, this is more expensive than Sal's, for a smaller amount of pizza. Though the service was great, I can't recommend anyone go here when there are so many other great options nearby. read more

I've been working on BC's campus for a while, but have never managed to make my way over to Crazy Dough's for lunch. Today, I decided it was time to try the Pizza. I have slowly been trying all of the Pizza places near campus (during lunches) in an attempt to find my favorite one. The actual restaurant is clean and nice-looking on the inside. I was greeted as I walked up to the counter, and I asked the cashier what deals they had, and generally what people liked (pizza-wise). He recommended either a personal pie or a few slices, and said that they had a special with a free soda. I ended up grabbing a personal bbq chicken pizza, and got 15% off because of my BC ID. It took like ten minutes (like he said) for the pizza to be ready for me to take. It came in a little box, and reminded me a bit of a CPK pizza. Overall, it was a good pizza with great sauce, the crust was a bit crispy for me though. UPDATE: I've gone back a number of times, and just had their regular (not personal) slices, which I like a lot. The price is definitely the best for a few slices (especially w/ BC ID) if you compare it to Pino's or any of the other popular pizza places near campus. read more

We just got a menu in the mail today so we figured why not try it out. Got the Magarita small pizza with a wheat crust, added some feta, and fresh garlic. omigosh.. SO good. Oh, Crazy Dough's Pizza is the bomb. I just ordered their cheese and pepperoni pizzas. They were amazing, way above average. The service & staff were all on point. The only gripe I have is their prices are high for pizza $17 for an 18" cheese pizza. I also had just and OK salad which was way overpriced for the small portion I got and with skimpy toppings. This is a Pizza place! My opinion: Pizza is above average and tastes amazing. Cons: Prices are very high. Salads kinda suck don't order. read more

I love this pizza! I like this place officially more than Pinos, Upper Crust (bleh), Santarpio's (over-rated), Pinochio's, and Otto's. I went there for the first time less than a week ago, and I've been back 3 times. Each time, I had a different pizza. I had a slice of pizza here about 6 months ago and thought it was very good. Tonight I decided to try it again. I ordered a large pizza and a small buffalo chicken wing. The wings were proudly advertised on their website as "Baked not Fried".. Wow, this sounds healthier???? When I placed my order I informed the person on the phone that I had a coupon code. He asked a few fellow employees how to enter it into the computer. No one really knew how to enter it and they said "the current promotion is a better deal than the coupon" ......... When I arrived to pick up my order the price on the bill did not reflect any coupon code or special that they were promoting. OK, just give me my order so I can get out of there. When I got home I put out the pizza and opened the bag with the chicken wings. Instead of chicken wings they gave me some rolls. Upset as one of my guests wanted tp try the "Baked" buffalo wings, I went back to Crazy Dough and they had my order on the counter. "They forgot to give them to me" In summary: The employees were nice people but had no idea what they were doing. I had to repeat the order 4 times until they got it right. Definetly a communications issue. They had no idea about coupons or codes. They had no idea which was a "better" deal, the coupon or the special The wings should of been fried instead of baked. Living off of Lake Street, I'd seen the paper in the empty store front for months, and wanted to try the new pizza place when it finally opened up. Lo and behold, getting off the T one day with my friend, we find that it's open. Thinking about getting pizza for dinner, we had thought about ordering Dominos and having it delivered. But hello, this place was now open! Se we stop in and come across a clean shiny new business with large pieces of Sicilian pizza out on display, and a creative menu to pick from. We ordered garlic knots, the Buffalo Bacon personal pizza, and a pepperoni calzone. Holy cow (and pig, I guess)! The calzone was stuffed with not just pepperoni and mozerella, but the most delightful blended ricotta cheese. It felt like you were eating something vaguely healthy. The garlic knots were divine. I love my knots, so I've have plenty, and it was worth the burn rush to my mouth. The Buffalo personal pizza was a bit weird. For one, they put bbq sauce on it, and the other, it looked like it had been placed atop of a large flat piece of pita bread. Maybe that was their thin crust... It was delicious despite the oddity. It was great having to wait the time we did for the food. It wasn't some "three minutes in the oven" service I've come to expect, and it was awesome. Some negatives. They need more trash cans. This was their first night, so many ppl still didn't know they were open, but once they're there! People will be flying back in, especially with the BC monkeys back from summer break. The tables out in front of the restaurant face ... a street and a T train station. Eh, it's not exactly the best view. Also, pizza condiments. Are we allowed to take them outside? Had the most wretched excuse for chicken parm I'd ever had the misfortune of tasting. I'm still in disbelief that I paid $10 for what is essentially dog turd wrapped in plastic with some marinara sauce sprinkled on it. I hope that they invent time travel soon so I can go back in time and stop myself from ever tasting this garbage. Pretty sure it knocked a good decade off my lifespan. Honestly, don't go here for the pizza. It's very thick crusted so it feels more like a giant loaf of bread. Instead, order the wings and pick them up (they bake them fresh so it takes about 15 minutes to make). The wings are really juicy and the sauces, especially the BBQ, are great. Five stars, if you're a BC student. Probably four stars if you're not. They give 15% off to all BC students. This really helps my almost daily meals there stay cheap. Their salads, sandwiches, and pizza are all pretty good and not too expensive with that discount My one beef with Crazy Dough's: for orders over 75$ they charge an automatic 15% gratuity for delivery, which I think is unreasonable. We ordered about nine dressed-up pizzas for $150. We asked it to be delivered about 1/2 mile away from the store. They were about to charge us nearly $25 for a very easy delivery that would've taken them maybe, maybe 10 minutes total. I talked to the manager about this policy. She doesn't think it's unreasonable. We ended up borrowing a friend's car just to avoid this outrageous delivery fee. 15% is what a waitress gets for doing an ok job of waiting on you for an hour--not a deliveryman who drops off your pizza in a few minutes! read more

On August 26th I went to pick up a pizza that I ordered and because of the narrow street I had to do double park my car. As I'm waiting in line to buy the pizza I ask one of the employees to see if she can help me pay for my food since I was double parked. And she rudely responded, "did I see anyone in front of me" and told me that it was my problem that I double parked and instead of simply saying I had to wait, she instead shouted in front of the whole store which made me feel very uncomfortable. read more

I've heard from a few different people that Crazy Dough's has some great pizza, so I ordered a large cheese last weekend. I like how easy they made it to order online(and the whole wheat dough option), but it took well over an hour to be delivered. Obviously the long delivery time led to the pizza being cold, which would be ok if I paid $10 for the pie, but it was $18(before tip). The pizza itself wasn't anything special and with all the other options in the area i don't see any reason to give them another shot. read more

Bought a large Greek Salad with Chicken. I asked for the chicken to be warmed up and it was still freezing cold when I bit into it less than 5 minutes later. The server wrapped it up in tin foil, not sure why, then put it in my salad so I had to unwrap the cold chicken myself at my desk. Since our family favorite pizza spot went out of business, we tried Crazy Dough's tonight. Originally I asked for delivery, but sensed that it was a bit crazy and decided to pick it up myself. The kids (who couldn't agree on an alternate pizza spot both liked their picks (1 personal cheese and 1 barbecue chicken). My husband and I split a large mushroom and pepperoni. I liked it - he thought it was bland - not sure what usually gets put on pizza to get the zing he is looking for...At any rate, mostly a hit, so we will try it again. read more

I was graduating from BC just as Crazy Dough's was being built, so despite it being there for a while, I just recently got a chance to try it for the first time. To be honest, I expected to be disappointed. I'd heard good things, but had little faith. I was wrong. The first pleasant surprise was the price. $6-$8 for a filling individual pizza is not too bad considering what I was fearing on the way in, for a "specialty" pizza place preying on college kids with daddy's money to spend. But for under $10 I was fully satisfied. The pizza was as good as I'd heard - yummy, doughy crust, with fresh, delicious toppings. I got the 'meat lovers' and it was all good (sausages, meatballs, there was probably something else on there too.) The service was friendly and the entire establishment was clean. In case it's hard to tell, I am a big pizza snob. With a variety of pizza experiences in New York and New Jersey, I demand a lot from my pizza anywhere. This means a thin crust, fresh toppings and plenty of sauce. Light on the cheese. A few years back I tried Crazy Dough's and found it to be doughy, stodgy and fairly unappealing. But, hey, I'll try anything again for free - so we picked up a large pizza the other night with a mailed coupon. The crust was certainly thin, the toppings fresh. It just felt like there was something...lacking. An uneven distribution of fresh basil didn't help - the poor little leaves had been shredded into oblivion. Fortunately, they were generous with the caramelized onion and a little TOO heavy-handed with roasted garlic, despite MULTIPLE requests to only put it on HALF the pizza. Additionally, our name was spelled so incorrectly that it seemed they needed a new person answering the phone. I'd be willing to try Crazy Dough's again for a slice, but at $20 bucks a pop for a large pizza, I'll have to head elsewhere - to a place that can take down names and orders correctly. read more

I have lived in Boston for almost ten years, and I have just discovered this delicious pizza!! Although I have only ordered from here once, I am excited to conquer the menu. With one order under my belt, I have tried the disappointingly small calzone, the garlic knots, and a pizza that had potatoes, bacon, cheddar and ranch dressing. I'm a former fan of crazy doughs. The first few times I went, I thought it was delicious. Now, I have to rethink my assessment. The crust is incredibly tough every time. The first time I had crazy dough pizza was in an airport in Seattle or Oregon and it blew my mind. I was so excited when one opened in walking distance of my condo. This place is good but not the best. Possibly in the top 5 in Boston but as good as the on e I had in a west coast airport. The balsamic glaze, nutty Tuscan, and potato cheddar slices are great. I came here during a visit to BC, and was pleasantly surprised at the food. The fire grilled pizza here was great. The toppings and sauce were both good, but the dough was the best part. The flavor in the garlic knots was so-so, but again, the dough was great and made up for it. It's slightly pricey - a large pie with 2 extra toppings with an order of garlic knots came to about $20.
