I recently got tattooed at Crawling Squid by Evan Barry. The facilities are super clean, the staff is super friendly and make you feel comfortable and right at home. My tattoo was a traditional tattoo done in the traditional "Sailor Jerry" style, which Evan Barry excels at. He was patient, asked if and when I needed a break, and it was really comfortable and pleasant, as pleasant as getting a tattoo could be. It was obvious from the meticulous way he worked that he wanted the tattoo to be perfect. And it was! I now have an amazing tattoo, which I got at a really great price, and had a really great experience. I'm already contemplating the next piece and am excited to head back to Crawling Squid for more great work. Came here for a Friday 13th tattoo with my brother and his boyfriend. The shop was very clean and as welcoming as tattoo shops come. The flash pieces were larger than than other shops which I loved, and the art was far from your typical run of the mill flash pieces. Do not get your tattoo done by Evan. This is what he had caused ,this is permanent damage that I have to live with for the rest of my life it is going to cost me more than $600 to fix my arm in my hand put together. The one on the left is the picture I showed him, and the right one is what he did. This is so embarrassing. Please save yourself an embarrassment and don't ever go to this tattoo shop. I asked for a refund & they kept giving me the run around. Veronica (HIS FIANCÉ) offered to give me a touch up but rescheduled me for another 2 weeks. Veronica is a super talented artist and has a terrifically light hand. But she also lays down incredibly dark black ink and great grey as well. She is fun and funny. A while ago I had a tattoo done at this studio. The service and work I received by Veronica was exceptional! Its a cursive line of text with a small pic on my forearm that turned out perfect. She was super easy to work with, very nice and patient with me. I have had a bad tattoo experience on my very first tattoo and its taken me a while to get another one. But she came recommended and I was very comfortable with her and I have wanted this tattoo for a while and I trusted her. I am glad I did! A few months later she covered up that terrible tattoo I had done by another studio and it looks incredibly good! I can still feel the scaring from the other tattoo but you cant tell by looking at it that there is anything under it at all. The work she did is very good, smooth lines and great shading. Wow! Where do I begin? For starters, Crawling Squid is in a pretty tight location, easy to get to, and is a really neat shop on the inside (they are even renovating!) All the artists are great but I personally go to @veronicasangre (check her out on Instagram) I've gotten 4 tattoos from her now including a large elbow piece (all are healed, no blowouts and no ink fell out). She does immaculate work and I'm currently making plans to get more work done from her. She's super nice, easy to work with, and tattoos effortlessly. She specializes in and does fantastic American Traditional work with her own unique style, and even does a lot of black work. If you are thinking about getting something, look no further! read more

95%of my tattoos are by the squid and I have some large pieces on my upper arms . I have always been very pleased with the work done by Evan as I love traditional work and he always hits the mark on what it is I'm looking for as far as design and color . He is super patient and down to earth as well as very creative . He is always interested in the story behind your tattoo and is genuinely empathetic if you have had a loss in our life in which helps get through the tattoo . He has always kept my appointment times he always runs on time . The price is always right and worth every penny !! I have been lucky my tattoos have not been touched up and I know that I need to go in and have them done although they are in amazing condition for the amount of years that I have had them . I just had my third tatto done here and I must say I am beyond satisfied. I walked in randomly at noon on Monday with a friend of mine, told the guy what I wanted and he had it drawn up in less than 15 minutes and drawn well at that. Although, getting a tattoo isn't always the most pleasant of experiences, this one was a good one. I originally came with my wife who was getting some tattoos touched up. I talked to Evan briefly about a tattoo idea that I wanted to have done. He said he would work something up. What he drew was amazing. I went in the next day and spent three hours with him while he was tattooing me. He is very good at what he does. If I could compare him to a doctor, I would say he has great bedside manner, in this case chair-side. I could tell he really cared about the tattoo he was doing. The owner Evan is incredibly talented, a true artist who cares extraordinarily about the quality of his tattoo work and makes the experience for the customer to be one of extreme comfort and care. His artwork is hung up all over the shop and when I realized this art was his I knew I made the right decision because it is seriously impressive. I will never visit another shop in Phoenix because of the variety of tattoo work they offer and the fair, honest and dedicated work that they seem to be so devoted to. The other tattoo artist Veronica created a very welcoming environment as I walked in to wait for my tattoo. As I waited I sifted through their personal artwork, and her work was bad ass and jaw dropping as well. I got my 1st and 2nd tattoo at this shop in 2000! Recommended by family who had work done there a few years earlier. Both of mine are tiny pick from the board ones. I have gotten 6 others since then (I relocated back home to Jersey) Im really looking to get another one and wasnt sure I would be able to even consider any other artist then mine back in Jersey. Decided to yelp Crawling Squid for S&Gs. Didnt expect to see them still open! Being open for business for AT LEAST 16 years pretty much tells me something about a place! Now as soon as I decide how i want mine drawn up I will make an appointment! My artist in Jersey has an approx wait time of 10 months to a year. This is the best place! I got my very first tattoo here about 9 years ago (a small one, done by Evan Barry) and had my second and third done today by Jason Kralovetz. All I can say is...AMAZING! I contacted Jason last night about what I wanted and, to be fair, I was pretty vague. I had just a general idea, but nothing concrete, no details really. He scheduled me to come in first thing today and had sketched two of the most perfect representations of what I wanted. I was as impressed as someone can possibly be! He is so awesome too, his whole demeanor is relaxed and confident, which helps ease any nerves about the process. Everything at this place is sterile and obviously very safe and clean...it's quite clear that it is a priority here. I just can't say enough good things. I know that if/when I decide I want some more ink, I'm coming here, and if I ever hear anyone talking about needing a good place to get a tattoo, I'm insisting they come here! I paid 60 bucks for 4 little names on my fingers 1st time came out shitty. guy told me to come back for a touch up. So i called to make sure guy would be there turned out he didn't work there no more. so another guy touched them up looked decent until healed. line are squiggly and I'm never going there again. I got my first 2 piercings there when i turned 15. sucks its not the same environment or people.....im really sad i have to walk around with theses and when people wan a see them my response is they look crappy and embarrassment follows..... read more

I decided to get a second tattoo and wasn't too impressed with the first tattoo parlor I had gone to. I learned about "Crawling Squid" through people I have met who have had really good things to say about the place and their work. I was able to walk in and only have an idea of what I wanted. Evan helped me out. He was able to go online and find what I was looking for. It was a pain in the butt on my behalf for not having what I wanted ready. He was patient with me and willing to help. I found him to be pleasant and professional. He did a BEAUTIFUL job on my work. I get stopped all the time due to my tattoos vibrancy and how well the design turned out. The last place I had gone too which seems to have a pretty good name in the downtown Phoenix area (3rd Ave and McDowell), didn't cut it for me. That tattoo is only a year old and nowhere near as vibrant (I would like for all my tattoos to be done in black ink). Before starting Evan showed me what materials he would use and everything was kept sterilized and packaged. He was also willing to answer questions regarding cleanliness. Lastly the price he charged was half of what I was going to get charged at a grungy little studio in Scottsdale. I will certainly be back for more work! read more
