After stopping here at 2 p.m. on a Saturday afternoon, we were greeted with the worst service I have ever received. We ordered 2 appetizers,which were good, however after 40 minutes we had not gotten the sandwiches we ordered or any news on how long it would take. We cancelled our order and left. After hearing great things about Crawfish Junction, we decided to check out their fish fry. We arrived around 5:45 and the place was pretty crowded (as we expected) and we were told it would be a 45 minute wait for a table. No big deal- we sat at the bar and ordered beer while we waited. The bar staff was awesome- very friendly and attentive, despite the large crowd. And it's a good thing they were so pleasant, because we ended up having to wait not 45 minutes, but an hour and 15 minutes for a table. So by the time we were finally seated, we were pretty hangry. Our server was also very nice and attentive, and she took our order fairly quickly. I ordered the 2 piece fried cod and my husband ordered the 3 piece- both very basic meals and on a Friday night you'd think they'd be frying up cod like crazy and getting meals out fairly quickly. Unfortunately this was not the case, as we waited about 25 minutes for our food. Then, when it arrived, there was no lemon for the fish (how do you not serve lemon with fish!?) and when I opened my baked potato, there was a huge black rotten spot in the middle. The potatoes come already cut open, so really this should have been noticed by the kitchen staff before it ever made it out to the table. Luckily our server was great about it and brought a new potato and some lemon slices right away. As for the food, the fish was very good but the portions were pretty small. My husband had french fries, which turned out to be really stubby- as in each fry was maybe 1/2-1" long- and they were seasoned well but were soggy. They weren't really big enough to dip into ketchup and almost needed to be eaten with a fork. Weird. So after more than two hours there, we felt like the food was just ok. Definitely not "Best of Madison" status, though. I guess I'd put it this way: it would have been fine if we hadn't had such a long wait, or if the food had been phenomenal enough to justify the wait. But the combination of a long wait AND mediocre food just left us feeling pretty blah about the whole experience. read more

We judge restaurants on food more than on ambiance. That being said this is a cute place with a fun ambiance. Old Fashioned's were strong, muddled but with a mix. Food was pretty good but not phenomenal. We had the combo. My husband had perch and jumbo shrimp. He thought both tasted pretty good but thought portion of fish was small. I had the scallops and cod. Both were not bad but nothing about the meal stood out in terms of flavor. I would not avoid the place if in the area. But also wouldn't rave about it to friends. When brought it up was told to sit down because I have been making a scene all night (because I asked a few times how long our wait would be). This was my 3rd visit and that has sealed the deal. You can tell its a pretty beloved place-a big happy family celebration of an anniversary; several families with small kids, groups of young adults. We visited on a Sunday around noon. Lots of people, 2 waitresses-working hard but not seeming overwhelmed. We wanted the walleye but they were out. Bummer. However, it gave us a nice opportunity to try the fish fry and it was FAB! Tender, perfectly cooked with a light crispy batter. This really is the best fish fry I've had. This same batter was on the crawfish appetizer-big chunks of tender tasty crawfish with a zesty Cajun tartar sauce. Yum! Well worth the drive from Madison. Best bar style food I've ever had ! Place was in the middle of nowhere but worth the 10 minute drive from the Johnson creek mall. We went here because everyone raved it was so good. I didn't think so. I could get a better burger in IL(where I live). The waitress we had was horrible. One of the waitress was playing with her hair and putting on make up. Really you can't do that at home? Our waitress was at the table behind us talking to someone the whole time. She didn't place my order correctly of what I wanted on my burger. The fries were good. could could have be bigger. The burger was fine. I would only come back for the fries. Otherwise I wouldn't come back. They also have limited parking so you do have to park on the street if all the 7 or spaces are taken up. read more

Cute place. Took awhile to be seated even though there was literally no one else eating. The surly, unsmiling waitress finally seated us. Then left. Came back a while later with 4 menus and left again. Finally took our drink order. Blonde waitress with her hair in a bun and a bad attitude cane back and asked for our order. The big sign said fish fry starting at 11 am. It was 12:30 and I ordered broiled cod. I was informed it wasn't available until after 3:30. So don't believe the sign. I then asked if I could get anything that wasn't deep fried and breaded. No. That's not possible. Settled for a burger and had to pay more for cottage cheese because I didn't want fries or chips. The burger was good. My friends fish fry was good but I had to go to the bar to get a refill in my drink as our waitress was no where to be found. Food is good. Service not so much. read more

Saturday evening Prime Rib was excellent. Our party of three enjoyed Prime Rib perfectly cooked, Cheese Curds very good, Haystack Onion Rings, Sweet Potato Fries and Chips. We had a such a great first time experience here a year ago, but what a HUGE let down that was today. Coming back from the Brewers game, we specifically drove out of our way to eat here (2 hours), only to be told by the hostess it would be 25-30 minutes before we could even be seated. 1/3 of the dining room was empty, plenty of tables, my 8 year old son politely piped up as he was all excited to eat here again and asked why we couldn't sit at one of them. Her answer was that they only had 2 waitresses and larger groups just came in. Hmm... so we're supposed to stand at the doorway 25-30 minutes, stare at the empty tables and other people eating, before we even get seated, none-the-less, at one of the still empty tables that were there when we first walked in. We won't be back and we certainly will NOT be recommending it to family and friends anymore, in fact, they'll be hearing quite the opposite now. So bummed. PS - I waitressed in my high school and college years, one of two waitresses on a shift, working a very similar sized restaurant, and were always grateful and willing to serve every table, filling the entire restaurant. We would have NEVER turned away anyone, especially if there were empty tables. Ridiculous! read more

I went here for dinner last night (4/16/15) with two friends. Our waitress was absolutely wonderful - friendly, funny, helpful, and knowledgable. They have SEVERAL beers on tap and she offered samples of the beers we were interested in. We started with the fried pickles - DELICIOUS! Hand-breaded, tart pickle chips with sriracha aioli (we also ordered regular ranch). My friends both ordered the 3-piece cod. They both commented that there was cinnamon in the batter, which one liked and one did not, but that was just a personal matter of taste. I had a burger with the beer onions on it and it was FANTASTIC. Perfectly done and the beer onions are to die for - so soft and sweet. I had read multiple bad reviews about their french fries so I was a bit nervous but mine were great! There were some very tiny ones (one of the complaints from previous reviews), but they were nice and crunchy so I didn't mind that at all. They were perfectly seasoned and salty, too. Overall, my ONLY complaints (if you could call them that) would be that it is a bit loud - we got there around 5pm and the bar music is played all throughout the dining area. But I was only aware of it for the first couple of minutes and then I was able to tune it out... and that they do not serve dessert. Will definitely be back - worth the drive from Sussex! read more

Very disappointed. The food was great, but when we asked to order another round of drinks after we ate we were told we could not order any thing more. We were forced to give up our table because there was a waiting list. We were willing to pay money to buy alcoholic beverages.... but we had to cash out immediately to give up our table.
