I had things to attend to in Hinesville, and then we planned to visit Sunbury Crab because I had raved about it to a friend. She had hip surgery a few months prior, and this was going to be her first "road trip." We were coming down from Beaufort, SC. I made a reservation through Resy. Within 15 minutes of making the reservation, I was called and told they had canceled it. I asked why, and she told me I could come in at 5 or after 7:30 and sit at a high top or try to sit at the bar, which is first come, first served. I told the woman those options weren't feasible. I was told they try to keep the low tops available for other parties, and it was an accessible table. I tried to explain that's why I booked that table, but she told me the reservation had already been canceled for me and taken by someone else. I was very disappointed. I decided to try again, hoping I could get an early reservation at 4:45. Again, party of 2. This time, no instantaneous rejection. I was hopeful. This time, I called to confirm that, as a party of 2 with one person having a mobility issue, we could be accommodated. I was assured it would be fine. So we drove down from Beaufort. We were about 15 minutes away when I got an automated notice that my reservation had been canceled. I pulled over immediately and called to tell them this was a mistake and we were almost there. The woman told me they had canceled my reservation on their end, and I could (1) come back after 7:30 to "see if I could be seated" OR I could try the bar area. I told her I called to confirm it wouldn't be a problem, since I'd had an issue before and was told that before 5:00 it would be NO PROBLEM. She said she was sorry, but there was nothing she could do. A larger party wanted the table, and she had canceled my reservation. I asked what the point of making a reservation was if they were going to always cancel. She said it was at her discretion, and my only choices were bar seating or after 7:30. Now, after reading several more reviews of this restaurant and talking to locals and other visitors in the area, I am finding out that parties of 2 are not welcome during prime dining hours. You must go before 5 p.m. or after 7:30 p.m. They routinely cancel reservations for parties of two, and if you want a low-top table, you MUST be a larger party. They routinely skip over small parties and do not honor reservations for parties of fewer than 4. If you are a party of less than 4, hope they call you or notify you before you show up for a reservation. If you don't get notification that your reservation was canceled, you will find out when you get there.
