King's Home Services - Jason extended our cabinets to meet the ceiling before we had them painted. We love how they turned out.

The previous contractor had left it with visible drywall screws wide exposed cuts, etc. It looked terrible. After panicking because our countertops were scheduled for installation and looking through Jasons Yelp photos, we knew we needed to get on Jason's schedule. He books out sometimes 3 weeks, and this was last minute. We ended up delaying our countertop installation by 3 weeks in order to have him do the work. Waiting for Jason to do the work was 100% worth having a plywood island top for those 3 weeks. He showed up on time and got right to work. His cuts are precise, and the extension he built looks like it's always been there. We ended up hiring him to extend our kitchen cabinetry to the ceiling and add crown molding to it, as well as add trim pieces to our cabinets' blank sides before we had them painted. We also hired him to modify and install a wood hood over our stove top. Everything came out perfectly. We are more than impressed with his work and wouldn't hesitate to hire him again. This guy is a professional and the best kind. There was not one bad surprise with him. He even gave me some tips, as I was filling the cabinet handle holes prior to getting them painted. They came out perfectly. Thanks, Jason!

He hung new drywall, taped, mudded, and left it with a clean level 5 finish. He also demoed parts of the exterior, installed new sheathing, and put up a vapor barrier--all done properly. As a working contractor myself, I've dealt with plenty of subs. What stood out most with Juan was his follow-through. He stayed on top of things, communicated well, and saw the job through to the end. That kind of dependability is rare and appreciated.

I needed drywall repaired on the ceiling in an upstairs bedroom that was damaged from a roof leaf. After collecting about 7 different quotes, Juan was one of the most affordable options but also left a good impression on me with his quick and clear communication. After texting him on a Monday night that I wanted to work with him, he was able to come out on Wednesday morning to start and had the job done before noon on Thursday! I couldn't be happier with how the project turned out and am beyond happy that I went with Juan! HIGHLIGHTS: * Responded to my initial message quickly and got me a quote the same day * Fair and reasonable pricing * Able to schedule me in right away * Communicated a start time through text and arrived on time * Worked efficiently and quietly so I was able to work from home without interruption * Extremely clean... took off his shoes in the house and swept up before leaving each day * Beautiful work... I'm not a drywall expert but I'd never even know there was a hole there! * Final cost matched the initial quote Honestly, I have absolutely nothing but great things to say about the experience. I'm now looking around my house to find other projects that I can hire Juan to complete because I'm that satisfied with his work and will absolutely recommend him to anyone I know that needs a contractor in the Austin area.

    Knowater Roofing

    Knowater Roofing

After last year's hailstorm in Salado, we entered into a contract for residential roof replacement…read morewith Knowater Roofing. Company provided an estimate of $25,500, but wanted a $15,000 down payment before materials were even delivered onsite. The owner assured us that it was not uncommon for roofing companies to request a 50% down payment; he was asking for 60%! After seeing that the Texas Department of Insurance website cautions consumers to be wary if a contractor asks for a large or full down payment, we should have run from this company then. But foolishly, I liked the idea of using a local, veteran-owned company. I told owner that I would only pay $4,000 down payment, which he agreed to. Company started removing the old roof on July 1st, 2022. I noticed when I got home from work that afternoon the roofers were installing the new synthetic underlayment over the original felt underlayment. I inquired about this method because I work in the construction industry and hadn't seen that done before. I was told by an employee that this was the way it was done now. This concerned me because how could they possibly inspect the roof condition without removing the existing felt, but I didn't want to slow the installation process of my new roof, especially with the threat of rain. The installation instructions for Owens Corning ProArmor Synthetic Underlayment state that it "should be applied to a properly prepared dry deck..." I contacted Owens Corning and was told that any incorrect installation would void any warranty. When Luke originally inspected our roof for hail damage, he commented that flashing was not done correctly by the builder and that he would "fix that." When roofers completed the job on July 5th, Knowater Roofing representative called to advise they were sending someone over that evening to pick up the remaining payment for the job. Seemed odd to do that without anyone from the company coming onsite to do a walk-around inspection of completed work. Had they done that, they would have known that I was not pleased with the flashing they installed and that job was not finished. They either failed to install flashing, or where they did, it was shoddy work (see photo). Luke shows up and I explain I am not going to pay him in full until all work was completed. Even after I showed him the poorly-installed flashing, he was argumentative with me and made a point to loudly insult me while he was talking on the phone with someone else. Very unprofessional! Flashing was corrected the following day and we then realized that shingles had been installed over our dryer vent. Thank goodness we noticed; this error could have caused a devastating fire. Knowater was apologetic for this mistake and corrected the problem the following day. While I am pleased with the product and how the shingles look on my house, my advice to any prospective customer is to put your expectations in writing when you sign a contract with this company. Make a note of all vents so they don't erroneously get covered up. Also, after the installation, I realized there was damage to my gutters and a window screen. When company provided the original estimate, I was told I would be refunded $1,500 to help offset my deductible...no surprise, that didn't happen, company acted like that conversation never occurred. I recently posted this review on Google. Owner responded that my review was personal and had nothing to do with the roof. Yet I cited specific issues with the installation and included a photo documenting poor workmanship; the company didn't dispute this. Owner also stated in his response that we sold our house and are hiding in the shadows...that is a lie. We still own the house and live in it. Owner also stated in response that my wife was "very pleased in every aspect" of company's work. He probably should have run that by her before posting a false statement. We in no way wanted this to be a negative experience; my wife even made gallons and gallons of ice-cold lemonade for the roofing crew because they were working in 100+ degree temperatures. It was nice to see some pleasantness in the response the owner posted on Google, even including a closing line of "God Bless." This is quite a juxtaposition from the prior response posted on Google in the early hours of May 25th where Luke challenged me ..."let's meet up buddy Ole pal...and express how you feel in person..." or even better, the defamatory text with foul language sent to my wife's cell phone at 11:32pm (almost midnight!) on May 24th, yet again challenging me to fight. In that text sent to my wife, the owner wrote "post this you [slang p-word for cat]." Not the greatest example of respect, integrity, and professionalism. It's said that the way a company responds to a bad review says more about the company than the negative review itself.

I contacted them for an estimate and they responded in a timely manner. However, I had already…read morehired another company to do the job because I needed someone ASAP. The employee who called me back asked me who I hired (none of their business) and then tried to plant seeds of doubt in my mind about the other company -- saying they will leave things off the estimate, will low-ball me, etc. -- even though the other company is very new and I'm sure the employee doesn't know them from Adam. This left a sour taste in my mouth and I won't contact Knowater for my roofing needs again. Tip to businesses: Respect customers' privacy, and don't bad-mouth competitors just to try to gain a psychological edge. It's unprofessional.
